So, I live about an hour away (up in Buffalo). But I live alone, and only have the 2 Dogs. We have…read moreparks here, but about once a week, I like to get them out of the house for an extended period of time. So we take the very relaxing hour drive south to Ellicottville, and I bring them to this decently sized dog park. It's located right off the main road into EVL, and shares a parking lot with a fire station. It also shares property with like a soccer field, playground, and maybe a picnic table or two. Pretty area, and plenty to do in EVL. The only reason I give this 3 stars, is because the dog bags (for their poop), are located OUTSIDE the dog park. Maybe this ain't a big deal for some, but for me I have three issues, which might seem silly, but I'll explain either way. 1. I cannot leave my dogs unattended. This may sound graphic, but they will legitimately kill other dogs/animals. They aren't friendly, and they often work as a team. And with both at 80lbs., even "big" dogs, aren't that big when two 80lb-ers team up. I wish they were nice and social. But they aren't. Period. So leaving the park to go get bags, isn't an option for me. 2. (Silly to some) I personally don't want to "pre-game" the bags, and grab some before I enter. I always feel weird, especially if I'm seen doing it. Like I feel like I look like the dude that steals bags from the park because I'm too cheap to buy my own. I know, dumb, but it's just how I feel. 3. (Pet Peeve) I cannot stand the kind of person that uses a public space and their dog poops there, and they don't pick it up. I feel like the bags being outside, especially if the person doesn't realize it or forgets to grab some, is just inviting owners NOT to pick up after their pets. Otherwise, it's a large area with grass and trees surrounded by a fence. It's a dog park.

Overall this is a nice park. I have lived in Hamburg since 2013, walking distance from the park, so…read moremy family does frequent the beach when weather permits. In the summer you'll find water activity (kayak, water bike, paddle board) rentals, and occasional outdoor kids movies. There is a small playground on top of the hill, and a deck with a nice view. The kids enjoy the snack stand featuring fryer food and ice cream novelties. Fitness center use is subject to membership. Parking permits are for purchase at the Fitness Center and town hall. You have to be a resident with proof of address to obtain a parking permit, you have to purchase a new one every year. Day passes are available for nonresidents. The ladies restroom at this place is never clean. Toilets and sinks are visibly dirty. There is no baby changing station or even a trash receptacle in the ladies room, so there are often used diapers, and other garbage left on the floor. The water is often closed for swimming (lack of lifeguards, or increased bacteria in the water,) but the beach sand is nicely maintained in the summer, it's mostly clear of rocks, branches, and other debris. In the summer you'll find a handicap/wheelchair access path. I have not used the boat launch personally, but over the years I have seen it being excavated using heavy equipment, and other times I have seen warnings posted not to use it.

Nice beach with a terrific snack shack.read more
