I like Orange Beach! My best friend and Sorority Sister has had a condo here for a couple of decades which has given me numerous options to visit Orange Beach! As others have said, yes, the beaches are bright white and the water truly is crystal blue! We've enjoyed countless fresh oysters here, especially delicious are the Murder Point Oysters when they are available, and tons of Royal Red shrimp, which are also, truly delicious! The Orange Beach area is where we charted a deep sea fishing boat for a six-hour deep sea fishing trip during Red Snapper season to celebrate a milestone birthday and it was the most memorable experience!! [Thanks so much Captain Troy Frady and Distraction Charters!!!!] We typically visit FloraBama and get scratch off lottery tickets, get a drink or two and again, some raw oysters. The Gulf is another fun place to hang out, eat, and drink - their Grouper sandwich is delicious and their bloody marys are good too! Typically, we visit Sea and Suds and enjoy the balcony area that sits above the Gulf, and we always enjoy a visit to Cobalt, which has delicious food, beautiful water views, and live entertainment. Orange Beach offers a good variety of public golf courses, too and I've played on several of them. Orange Beach is such a lovely asset to Alabama! It's just a little over five and a half hours drive from my house, and it's worth it for the lovely beaches, the friendly people, the delicious eats and the recreation! read more

It's a police state. Cops on every corner. got a ticket on a rented jet ski for "failure" to yield when i crossed in front of a boat... i was OVER 1,000' in front of him easily. dont go here unless you want to get ticketed. Speed limit is 28mph... come on. read more

Been there done that. I have only visited Orange Beach for 3 days. The beaches are lovely with white sand and green water. I can see where kids would love to vacation here. My overall impression was that it's a little to commercialized for me and somehow I just felt crowded in somewhat. In addition, the paper industry so severely polluted the waters in this coastal area that marine life still struggles today. I think Id choose somewhere in Florida around the bend from here but its not a bad place. read more

Phoenix II unit 2083 This unit is so outdated!!! The hot water doesn't turn on at all in master shower... called it in and simply received a thank you and enjoy the rest of your stay Furniture is dirty; Rug is old and dirty; ceiling paint peeling, walls... unit felt unclean. We went to store and purchased cleaning products... never again! Spend a little more for a better experience. read more

Orange Beach doesn't seem that different than Gulf Shores except for the high rise condos and the peacefulness at the beach. The beach was clean without any trash or personal belongings left out. You have your usual tourist area and big chain grocery stores to pick up anything you need. read more

Been visiting for a few years now and love this area. Now I am looking to make a move to this area. I can work remotely so it is going to be a great decision. I already have a realtor helping me in the process. Not many beaches around can compare to the white sand and azure waters. Plenty to do and plenty to eat and drink. I know I won't be a local but no matter, I'll bet 50% or more are not. House hunting is on like Donkey Kong! Recommend this area to anyone looking for a nice family oriented vacation or place to live near the Gulf. read more

While Orange Beach, Alabama has never obtained the fame (or perhaps notoriety would be a more apt description) of say Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Panama City Beach, or other beach destinations in the neighboring state of Florida that have become synonymous with Spring Break, bars and excess, Orange Beach certainly has its merits and reasons to hit up this beach community located just west of the Sunshine State and along the crystal blue water of the Gulf of Mexico. I think when we hear about beach communities, we sometimes forget that people actually live here. That people do the mundane to the places where we see as a getaway. I am up in Orange Beach often on business, so I am somewhere in the middle of tourist and local. Orange Beach is a pretty cool place. In my opinion, Orange Beach is one of the prettiest beaches that I have stood upon and the tourism allows for some cool restaurants and bars in the area. It is close to Mobile, Alabama and actually a convenient stop to get away for a bit and allow your feet to feel both the sand and the saltwater to wash up and cover your feet. One amazing thing about a beach is you stand before a different world, the mystery of the sea is in many ways as alien to us as outer space and it never fails to amaze me that there is no land between me and the horizon. I definitely recommend a visit here. You will be better for the trip. read more

Stayed here in 2010 and the beaches are pristine and a beautiful white flaky course sand. The waters here are pretty nice during the summer Great restaurants can be found all up and down the area from most the hotels here. The best time to travel here was in May it was just hot enough but not so hot you burned up. Orange beach I will see you again really soon. read more

My neighboring town, on our little island, that quite a few businesses have several duplicate restaurants and businesses as Gulf Shores but Orange Beach has got its own unique personality. On Alabama's southern coast near Wolf Bay, Shelby Lakes, Perdido Bay, and the Gulf of Mexico this area that has become Orange Beach was settled in the mid-1860 and got its name from, well oranges. In the late 1800s, Satsuma oranges became a popular crop as orange groves filled the area. Although there is uncertainty as to why the citrus industry ended around 1926. Some say it was several hard freezes, while others claim infested seedlings. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 5,441. Of course, the history of the area goes back to its Native American roots with the main tribes known to the area including the Creeks, Alibamas, and the Seminoles. Archaeologists claim that some of the Indian mounds found nearby are older than the Egyptian pyramids. (visit Orange Beach Indian & Sea Museum) Being a sailor myself I have been interested in the voyages and seafaring history of the area and interestingly pirates took refuge within the bayous and back bays and there are many pirate stories to be told. In modern history, Orange Beach was damaged seriously by Hurricane Frederic in 1979, but the pace of development in the area picked up dramatically afterward, prompting the town to incorporate in 1984. During the summer of 2010, Orange Beach, and many other Gulf Coast communities suffered a severe drop in tourism after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon mobile oil rig off the coast of Louisiana in 2010. Hurricane Sally did some real damage to the area but now, a year later, things are almost back to normal and business is good. In addition to the sugar powder beaches the city is home to three stops on the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail, great dining experiences, dolphin-sighting cruises, championship golf courses, fishing charters, and nature hikes, and a lot more, One of my favorite places is The Coastal Arts Center that houses a gallery exhibiting the work of more than 150 artists and offers art classes too! Bottom line: Orange Beach has evolved through setbacks, natural disasters, land squabbles, and man-made disasters into a vibrant coastal community on this island that welcomed over 6 million visitors each year. read more

Orange Beach Alabama is just east of Gulf Shores Alabama, and an easy drive down I85 to I65 to get there, from Greenville SC. The whole town is very pet friendly, and There are plenty of restaurants around the area with a variety of food. Plenty of ice cream stores around with different varieties of ice cream, sorbet, and Italian ice. Most of the restaurants were not within walking distance, but not too far of a drive from the Hampton. It's on a busy four-lane highway, which was hard to pull onto, and instead of left turns, it had places to make U-turns. There were other activities that you could do there like go-carting, mini-golf, and arcades, but I choose not to do any of them. I stayed at the Hampton Inn Right on the beach so there was easy beach access. The beach has nice white sand and plenty of room; there were chairs available for rent to enjoy the beach and sun. While I was there the ocean got a bit rough, but you could still swim in it and had plenty of sand bars to walk on. It did have a lot of seaweed in the water so it would get in your swimsuit and all over. The Hampton had showers right on the boardwalk to get the sand and weed off you. The Hampton Inn has nice amenities for you to use like a nice pool and hot tub with towels for you to use. The hotel also had a nice tiki bar to go get drinks at but didn't have any food. Had a gym with a good amount of equipment. In the end, it was a fun experience, and I would recommend visiting Orange Beach Alabama to other people. read more

This was our first trip to the gulf in Alabama. We normally go to Destin or Panama City Beach on vacation. There are similar amenities, but the water is not the same! Everywhere we have been in Alabama has had garbage water from the ocean beaches to the bays. The prices here are the same as Destin but the quality is far less. Restaurants here are tourist pricey but mediocre. The damage from "hurricane" Sally has never been fixed in Alabama but every business here plays the victim like it was last week. 260 billion dollars of FEMA and very little rebuilding. 30 miles down the beach in Florida also hit by Sally have fully been repaired and are looking good for tourist season. There is a marked contrast between these states and Alabama is lacking. Probably our last trip to this state read more
