I've never had a problem with the doctors here, but at the same time, it's just another example of a weak medical system. Things always feel slightly rushed; the nurses are trying to get your checkup over with and move on to the next person, the doctors are only there to validate or invalidate your health concerns. They take a brief look at you and you get a prescription, it's all very predictable. No time for meaningful discussion and no one is really going to sit down with you and figure out what's happening in a holistic sense. It's not their fault, it's just the way this works. You want info? Pay more... but chances are you'll hit another dead end at some point. Again, not specific to Optum, but truly disheartening. All this modern tech and AI nonsense, and the best we can do is a flashlight up your nose and an educated guess. read more

How to go from a former ***** Five Star Rating down to a * One Star Rating? ...and if I could assign a lower rating I would, honestly So, this is how you do it... LOSE YOUR HUMANITY AND REPLACE IT WITH TECHNOLOGY. Optim is HORRIBLE by the system. You call and are instandly placed into a IVR, interactive voice recording decision tree system... having to punch buttons over and over and over and over and over again and again and again. Then they decide to shuttle your call... one hour later, I'm still in limbo. I was originally sent to the Redondo Beach office, then they transfered me internally but never serviced me after 30+ minutes... then I hung up to start it over again and was sent to a another call center who then transferred me to the Northridge office instead of the Redondo Beach office to make an appointment... then I had to hang up and call again and was sent to a general call center, whether in the USA, India, Philippines or somewhere off-short, they were of zero help. They said they'd contact the Redondo Beach office to give me a call back. I have ZERO faith in their abilities and humanity on the call center level. The people who work in the office, starting from the front desk to all of the medial assistants and doctors are * * * * * Five Star, Great. What I truly hate about OPTIM is their migration towards technology which they're inept at handling properly. They keep pushing their APP / WEBSITE or PORTAL which is not user friendly, not intuitive and neglected, even by way of when contacting physicians and getting responses. I also truly HATE their phone system at Optim. I don't trust their Chat option, as Optim needs to improve the way they approach client services and customer care of the patients. Their calls go directly to what I think they call "Patient Support Services" which is not the local location of the service, so in my case, not in Redondo Beach. The way Optim approaches how they handle their customers, it inspires customers to seek care from another provider. I'm sure most large medical organizations all use technology and seek an organization who handles technology correctly. I predict the way Optim will approach A.I., Artificial Intelligence will be with a lack of human intelligence and reliance on automation and flawed. I hope they will read just how horrible their LACK OF QUALITY COMMUICATION skills and services are as I've seen many bad reviews that mimic and mirror my experiences and opinions. I will never go here again! It takes 30 days to see a doctor? Then my doctor is always late for the appointment! My time is just as valuable as yours! Every single time I go the office is completely empty?!? No patients ever! Then the doctor walks in complaining that he is super busy, which makes you feel like you don't really matter and he has better things to do. Yesterday was the last straw for me, my doctor completely ignored my concerns and gave me some BS explanation for what he did. Optum customer service literally sacks. Their doctors are good if they can keep them. I cannot talk directly to my doctor or his staff directly by phone. They send electronic messages to each other and God only knows if and when they read them. I have repeatedly called them for legitimate issues with referral issues or prescription issues and always got ill send them a message. Communication with the pharmacy is poor also. This place used to be good, now Christina White NP is the ONLY reason I would stay! Can't even call the office directly, I get shuffled to patient support, who has mostly been dishonest and unhelpful. I've even talked to their utilization team and got assured everything was taken care of, and she did nothing. I've had my medication order canceled numerous times and authorizations disappeared over and over, so I am on the 3rd week of no medication. Endless waiting and no one helps. No callbacks despite repeated requests. And dont get me started on Preveon the specialty pharmacy that Optum uses! read more

Settled after 10+ phone calls with multiple people, each time them ensuring me they would document the situation and each new call there "being no record" of any of my calls or my experience. I had to re explain optums negligence each time. Go any where else you possibly can for health care in the south bay. When I ran out and tried to refill, the office said they've changed their process, and I'm the one who had to take the initiative to follow up and ask. The worst! Used to be Healthcare Partners. Dave my partner of 24 years insisted on keeping Optum because he liked a particular doctor. Unfortunately she left on maternity leave just as he found out he had stage 4 lung cancer. The Optum Oncologist was pathetic to say the least, and offered one form of treatment with no genetic testing. We were glad City of Hope accepted Dave. There was genetic testing and 3 infusions plus a daily pill of Tagrisso. However, numerous other specialists were involved with his treatment. There was a complete and total lack of communication between Specialists, hospitals and Optum ie his General Practitioner. The cancer treatment was reducing the cancer cells with no spread, but Dave had kidney failure and died. We were so focused on the cancer, we missed the decline in kidney function! How this was not caught and he wasn't referred to a kidney specialist is beyond me. Something went terribly wrong. I have to say Optum failed. read more

I usually have a decent experience with all of the doctors I have seen at Optum. However, my primary care doctor was booked so I made an appointment with Dr. O'Connell for constant head and ear pain I've been having. I've never been treated with so much lack of care and compassion. He seemed as if he was annoyed and in a rush to get my appointment over with and get me out. He gave no time to for me ask any questions about what was going and took about less than 4 minutes look at what was going on. He just prescribed me a medicine, walked away and didn't even bother saying goodbye. Dr. O'Connell is the most rude doctor at this facility which is the reason why he is never booked up like the others. I do not recommend seeing him unless you want to feel worthless and like you wasted your time. read more

Me and my doc - we ok. I'd say Dr. Matsuno is Da Man but after an exam that just don't seem right. But he's cool and most importantly, he's got small hands - yeah you know what I'm talkin' 'bout. We talk, no chit chat - it ain't that kinda party - what he says is real, straight up - in his stoic manner. Well now that's more or less a one way street - ya know? I can't like just open up and tell him everything. You know, going to the doc is kinda like taking an exam, you pass if the doc says you pass, so if I gotta stretch the truth a bit... "Yeah, Dr. Matsuno" (I don't call him Dr Mats - he's got that one handed glove on), so I say "Yeah, Dr Matsuno, I workout every other day, and oh yeah I walk a couple times a week, about 1/2 hour, and yeah yeah I'm eating more veggies; the stream? it's strong. No, no, I'm ok" I wouldn't say I got an A on his exam but like school, D is passing. Dr. Mats has taken good care of me and mine for a lot of years. I got all my body parts and most if not all are working - gotta give one or two parts some testing - I know what you are thinking, don't even say it - I ain't that old, yet. The plumbing all works. All my vitals are ok. Thanks Dr. Mats! Thanks for being there for me. I'd be remiss if I don't say thanks to the rest of the folks at HealthCare Partners. I just left Dr. Sanna Mahmoud's office the list was horrible. I scheduled an appointment. because I have been dealing with a severe sore throat for over a month. The Dr. Insisted that She was only going to discuss follow-up visit ( I was hospitalized a few weeks ago for a heart problem). She was inpatient , did not listen to me any all! I have never had such an awful experience . When a doctor fails to listen to the reason a patient is visiting it makes them feel devalued . I d o not always like to use the statement " Perhaps because I am African-american ";however , what else am I to think ? Her nurse was absolutely awesome ! I wish I had memorized her name, because my throat is so sore I was dealing with pain . I am a college counselor and use my voice to assist students all day! if Dr. Mahmoud had just listened , and perhaps listed a few options I would have been happy. She was selected by a young lady who answered the telephone as my Primary care physician is out ill. I will NEVER visit her again. I will select another location . For Doctors/Physicians your degree is not all that matters we applaud you for your wonderful accomplishments; however , you deal with patients! The manner in which you speak to individuals matters! I don't do much reviews because I normally let little things go. However, what Optum did was just too much. I recently switched insurance provider but I wanted to be loyal to the company after being 18 months with them. Loyalty doesn't mean much to Optum. The usual flow was blood draw today May 10th and then annual physical a week after May 17th. I fasted and then showed up at 9AM to find out that my appointment for blood draw was never booked even though annual physical was in for May 17th their system. Even MORE comical was the receptionist said that I did have a blood draw appointment on JANUARY. Instead of offering to squeeze in a 5 minute blood draw the same day, I was told to go home and then come back another day and fast again, of course. Please do yourself a favor and double to make sure OPTUM have your appointment correctly written down. Otherwise, you will waste your night and day planning for something that will never happen. Worse yet, your medical need is MORE severe than my annual blood test and NOT be seen on time due to delay or negligence on Optum's part. For me, I went home to look for a new provider and NEVER come back to Optum. read more

I asked for prescription cough syrup the 233mg size bottle when I went to pick it up they gave me the tiny 118mg bottle and it was supposed to last me 12 days, there wasn't enough in the bottle for 5 days let alone 12 days, this must be a joke or the doctor is incompetent. Plus I had a cold for almost a week, called the doctor on Monday didn't hear back until Friday which is pitiful. Worst service ever. They're after hours care is Exer Urgent care I've been there twice over the years and they do absolutely nothing!!!! When this office was run by Healthcare Partners it was run so much better. Optum is horrible. After 20 years with HealthCare Partners, I switched over to UCLA Health once HCP became Optum. I am diabetic and asked my dr if I could go off one of my meds since my A1C was down. That same day I had a physical scheduled and she did nothing. I decided to go to UCLA Health because I was not satisfied with the care this dr was giving me. I learned my A1C went from 6.2 to 9.1. My new dr asked why I wasn't put on another medication. She referred me to an endocrinologist and the care I receive from her and the entire group is so much better. I recently got an email from Optum that my bloodwork is due ONE YEAR LATER? I will never go to Optum ever again and UCLA Health is the better option. read more

I'd like to start by saying I'm usually a really healthy person but even still I've had to go in for random issues here and there and if my doctor wasn't available they allowed me to see a nurse practitioner same day. The women's health clinic is right across the street and you need to schedule an appointment about a month and a half out which is on par with other offices especially ones with OBGYN. I've been with them for two years and I've never had a long wait time for an appointment, their facilities are clean, doctors are doctors and nurse practitioners tend to be younger and a little more conversational, which has been my experience at other offices my whole adult life. Overall I've been very pleased with my experiences with them, in and out and my problems are always solved. read more

I had a cold which turned into bronchitis, and did not have a primary physician to go to. My husband has been coming to this group and was happy with his experience. I was able to get an appointment the same day at 5pm in their after hours clinic, and was in and out of there within 40 minutes with prescriptions emailed to my pharmacy for pickup!! I accompanied my mom to her doctors appointment today with Dr. O'Connell, and I'm pretty sure by the time he left the exam room my jaw was on the floor. It was so sad too, because my mom had spoke so highly of him, and he had really helped my dad previously , who suffers from COPD, but after today, I'm gonna help her find a doctor who can treat her with the respect she deserves. He didn't even have the decency to say hello or good afternoon. Yes she was overdue for the appointment, and she needed to come in just to get blood work so she could get her prescription refilled, but that doesn't give a person the ok to speak so harshly and belittle them for not coming in sooner. There's a ton of different reasons that people are nervous for doctor's appointments and can't bring themselves to go to them, but she went, and I was proud of her for that (she's a hippie at heart and just doesn't like going to the doctor). Before this makes her believe that all doctors are rude and harsh, I'll find her one that will treat her fairly. What a disappointment. I had read the reviews on Dr.O'Connell before and found them to be pretty bad, but we needed a doctor for my dad and at the time he was one of the few that could see him quickly, and my mom just followed along and went with him too, but not after today, we're switching. :( read more

Probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a Drs office. I scheduled my appointment through my health insurance provider and they referred me to come here. I paid $55 dollar copay as well, which is terrible but was hoping to have my procedure done the day of ,so it didn't bother me to much. But I literally came to the office just to have the Dr tell me he can't take care of me, and has to me reschedule for a later date. Then after I informed the Doctor that I came here to have my procedure taken care today and he told me he couldn't do so today and said "oh yeah that's just how I do things." Then on the way out the Dr is looking at food from a food truck. I was in and out for less then 10 mins. Seemed like he had plenty of time to take care of my procedure if you ask me He was extremely rude and not friendly at all. He made me seem like a burden rather than help me, like a good doctor would. Wham, Bam, Thank You Ma'am! I stuck with Healthcare Partners for years. (Even when I had a PPO.) I too, have been given the bum's rush by Dr. Mahmood. She tells you she only has 15 minutes. What great bedside manner! She ordered me a 40 minute test a year ago. The results were lost. Each time I inquired about it, she couldn't find them. I was told, "Even if the results weren't good, we would simply recommend you do more exercise". At least pretend you care! On the other hand, she calls you, "My Love." She told me maybe it "wasn't a good fit." When I commented I'd never seen a doctor who was so consumed by time. Well, she also told my sister the same thing when she told her she needed to read lips, due to a 75% hearing loss. OK, buh bye... read more

I've been a patient with Optum (formerly) HCP for over 25 years. This year, Optum chose to send me to collection over a $30 copay for a phone appointment. The appointment was on 3/29 and by 7/5, they tried to ruin my credit. They didn't even properly contact me. I've paid thousands upon thousands of dollars in co-pays but I guess they need that $30 pretty bad. I'll not be using Optum as my health care provider in the future. read more

You know, I keep attempting to give this place the benefit of the doubt but I continue to run into problems which I believe is why they have such an overall low rating here on Yelp. As these ongoing problems have come to define this facility, at least for me, I will spell them out for you so you may know what to expect. To tell my story, I have been coming here, on and off, for several years. Every doctor I have encountered was very professional and did their job in an excellent manner. The doctors are not the problem here. But, there are other problems. First of all, some of the staff that they hire seem to be less than ideal. One example I have is a few months ago I went to see a doctor and she wanted me to have this minor in-office, non-evasive procedure done. As we were right in front of the nurse's station, she opened up the door and asked a nurse to perform it. The nurse's response was, "I'm going to lunch in a half an hour and I don't feel like it." My doctor closed the door, rolled her eyes, and told me I would have to make another appointment and return. When I was making that appointment I had them confirm that I would not have to pay another co-pay as it was not my fault that the procedure was not done on that same day. They assured me that there would be no additional co-pay. When I returned a few days later I again asked about the co-pay. They told me, "No, I would not be charged." A month later I get a bill for the co-pay. I call HeathCare Partners and I was told to call my insurance company. I called my insurance company and they told me there was nothing they could do as they were billed by HeathCare Partners and to call them. In other words, I got the run around and had to pay a bill because one of their nurses didn't feel like doing her job. Not good! The other really big problem with this place is that you can't get an appointment when you need one. The earliest is usually one week off. There have been a few times when I really needed to see a doctor ASAP as I had a busy week ahead of me and couldn't do it later in the week. But, no luck. I have PPO Insurance so I can pretty much see anyone. Even with this, on more than one occasion I have been unable to see a doctor. Again, not good. This is not a good business practice for a health care facility. That's the story. I hope it helps you know what you may expect when you go here. read more

Never experienced an HMO before. I guess this is the "new world". It really wasn't terrible. It just wasn't good medical care. The appointment was damned difficult to get. If you just need a referral then be prepared to wait at least 8 weeks to get in... and that's just to get started. You don't see the specialist until you've completed this hurdle and they get their $10. I mean for $10, the fact that you're seeing an actual doctor is really kind of amazing but you've already paid serious monthly money and so has your employer. We didn't wait too long and the appointment was not rushed although not all that thorough either (although we made it clear that we were there FOR the referral). My now former primary care physician was always wonderful, but everyone else in this organization has just become too much to put up with. Both times I've been referred to HealthCare Partners specialists have been disasters. One doctor tried to discuss my case with me in the waiting area in front of other patients. The other flat out told me to my face that my profession was a dying field and I should chose another. wtf! Last Thursday evening was the final straw. I was in a car accident and tried to make an appointment to see my doctor. All they had was an appointment in their after hours clinic. Fine. I mentioned that I had a form for work that I needed to be filled out. They said fine. I waited around until my appointment and then went in. The woman at the desk saw the form and freaked out and yelled at me that they didn't do workman's comp and they wouldn't be able to see me. I have insurance. I don't need workman's comp. I just needed a doctor to fill out a form out for me to be able to go to work the next day. I definitely didn't need to be lied to that this wasn't going to be okay or to be yelled at in a room full of patients. I called my insurance company the next day and switched my primary care physician. HealthCare Partners is ridiculous. read more

I have been coming to this this medical facility off and on for over six years - Dr.O'Brien and Dr. Bose were awesome. They took their time with me and addressed any issues I had within a reasonable amount of time. Fast forward to today, I have another doctor (she will remain nameless for now)... I had an appointment there at 9:00 am, she doesn't see me until 9:10ish and around 9:15am she tells me she cannot address my referral to a specialist because she only spends 15 minutes with each patient. OK....I get that but, you have only been with me about five minutes (???). Then I tell her that was one of the MAIN reasons I came today and that I made it very clear when I made the appointment. Of course, she is not listening to me and just goes on and on about how her patients know that she only takes 15 minutes with them, but they don't wait long for her in the waiting room...and if I want to be able to complain about everything I can see another doctor..or I can just make another appointment. Yeah, I walked out. I have NEVER encountered this type of unprofessionalism. I get the 15 minutes, which by the way I did not have, but you would think that if I clearly addressed that when I made the appointment, it will be taken care of during THAT visit. Needless to say, I am looking for a new medical facility. Plus, her and her staff doesn't wash their hands before touching you so....yeah, I am done. read more

Dr. Meagan O'Bryan is amazing. I had to wait six weeks to see her and it was well worth the wait. She really took time to address my concerns. I did not feel like she was in a rush to get me out, like other doctors are. Even the MA's and nurses are great and funny. I have not had a bad experience. I know the building has been under construction, the offices seem a bit out of place but that will be fixed soon. If you looking for a new doctor O'Bryan is worth the wait. read more

I hunted around for a place that worked with my insurance that's closeby and saw overall good reviews for Healthcare Partners. I needed to make an appointment for an annual checkup and I was happy that unlike my last doctor, where I had to wait 2 months to get an appointment for a physical, I was able to schedule an appointment for the following week at a convenient time. Even better, my appointment started right on time and the wait for the 1:1 portion with Dr Pham was very reasonable. Everyone on the staff treated me professionally and courteously. I liked my last doctor a lot but this is the way a patient should be treated. read more

I was just about to sit in the waiting room and the nurse called me right away to take me in the room and wait for the doctor. I started filling out the new patient form and I wasn't done yet when the doctor arrived already. Dr. Megan O'Bryan is very friendly and really showed good care to all my health concerns. I had been having problems with my shoulder and they even mailed a print out of rotator cuff exercises for me. I would highly recommend this place and Dr. Megan O'Bryan to all my friends and relatives. read more
