I applied for and received the Federal Governments Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) which gave me the $30/monthly deductable on my internet account with Suddenlink in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The first month was great--I received my discount without a hitch....however, the thrill was short-lived. Not only was the discount dropped off the very next month, but another $8.52 was tacked on for good measure!!!!! Now that Suddenlink has gone "Optimum", maybe the only true optimism is felt by this company who is pretty sure they can screw over the little guy at every turn!!! New name but still the same scumbag company as they were when they called themselves Suddenlink. We endured years of continually getting screwed price wise for unreliable service - things like getting charged for equipment that was never installed and/or returned, and optional insurance that we expressly told them we didn't want and never authorized, and so on, simply because we didn't have any viable practical alternatives until recently. Numerous contacts with customer service trying to get billing changed/corrected were a total waste of time. Finally good alternate providers have become available, and we left skid marks getting away from Optimum/Suddenlink so fast. The new providers (both home and business accounts) have been great. We have refused to pay our last Optimum bill because they would not correct the billing, which would have resulted in them owing us. So they turned our past due accounts over to a debt collection service, which is fine - easy to tell them you dispute the charge and then ignore any contact after that, and no hits to our credit score (still over 800). So now even though our recent past account is in collections from our refusal to pay, not to mention a log of MANY customer service contacts complaining of their unethical tactics and improper charges, they send an employee (Stacy Mann) door to door soliciting our business back, leaving giant door tags behind when we didn't answer. I'm sure all the vandals and thieves thank you Stacy for taking the time to flag all the buildings that are safe for them to hit. It's really nice of you to take the time to do that for them even in cases when you know (or should know) that you have absolutely zero chance of doing business again with that location - not to mention adding to the environmental detriment by leaving unwanted litter behind. So for anyone considering Optimum, do yourself a favor and don't get fooled by any fake low price offers - our many years of experience is they will add unauthorized options/charges, you will spend hrs and hrs dealing with their customer service that will be a total waste, and their service is unreliable. You you will be hounded with constant up sell attempts no matter how hard you try to opt out. For example, we used to have Voip phone service, but dropped it simply because we couldn't get Optimum/Suddenlink to stop the constant upsell attempt robocalls. One account we switched to RightFiber (Ritter) and the other we switched to T-mobile Home Internet. Both have been great and soooo much better than Optimum - no unexpected charges, no annoying upsell contacts, much more reliable service, and ethical conduct. We literally wouldn't do business with Optimum again even if they offered it to us for free. read more

Once I told them I switched service providers due to an holiday bundle promotion I then they tried talking me out of switching. I called on the 15th of the month to have my services disconnected, they put my services as pending because, since I had my services hooked up on the 8th of the month, they said they will not shut it off till the following month on the 8th. Therefore, I had to pay for 3 weeks of use I was not even using their services. I'm not in a contract with them, they're just horrible and very very very poor customer service. Summary: When you have a virtual monopoly, you can screw customers at will. One of the big problems today with internet service is that a company can come into a town, get a virtual monopoly over service and then shaft customers in any way possible. Suddenlink appears to be one of those companies like you see on that episode of South Park where they really enjoy sticking it to their customers. I had a tier of internet that was higher than I realized I needed for my job that I work from home. In an effort to save some money, I called and asked the operator to lower me to the next package. I checked my online account and noticed that there was no order there to change it; so I placed an online order and received a confirmation on screen that it would be taken care of within two business days. Then I get my bill today and find out not that not only did they not make the change, but my account was scrubbed of any references to the change! And I'm talking serious scrubbing...not only was the online order not referenced but when I contacted customer service today they said they had no record of my call three weeks ago! So what can I do? Yes, I know, I should have print screened when I placed the online order. I'll take that wrap for not doing that to prove the order was placed. It's sad that we're at the point you have to take screen captures of things to protect yourself against incidents like this, but that's the world we live in, I guess. Now, I should note the guy I spoke to today regarding the incident was very professional...I just know he's a call center dude who can't do anything about it. He changed my account and gave me a $25 credit to avoid the "upgrade charge". I know that's the length of what he could do and I did appreciate that, so "John", wherever you are, thanks for what you could do. I had an issue with the cable. They sent a repair guy who is an independent contractor who has NO business doing anything with the cable! I pay a very high price for the services I am supposed to receive. So now I do NOT get to watch television thanks to the lousy support! I have been waiting on a refund for them charging my account after disconnecting my services, they for some idiotic reason decided to credit my non-active account for my refund??? Like please explain how that makes any sense in the first place?? Then I have now had to call back for the refund 7 times now, was told to wait 2 business days to see the money in my account 4 of those times, then told to wait 5 business days after calling back and still not seeing the refund 2 times after that. And then today again after waiting the required 5 days I called back and get told to wait another 10 for my refund. I repeat DO NOT and i mean DO NOT use suddenlink for internet services literally anywhere else for internet would be better than this scam. and apparently im not the first one to have this problem either. Terrible customer service. I've been a customer since 2018. Same address, same bank account. Every month my payment is automatically taken and I get an email. This morning my internet didn't work, it happens. I did the trouble shooting guide. Then looked up my account to get a telephone number and saw a late payment issue. I made the payment, then called customer service to find out why it was not taken automatically. I was told it didn't show I was signed up for that. I was told there was no records of the fact that for years my payments have only been made by automatic electronic debit. What company doesn't have payment records? Internet still isn't back on despite being "guaranteed" by rep it would be on in 15 minutes. But that's also the same rep that kept saying the problem was when people move it disrupts services. I told him multiple times I haven't even moved. I still have the same address, maybe they don't keep records of where they send your bill to either. read more
