My husband and I have been to the Optical World in Aventura Mall for a few years now and always had a consistently good experience with friendly staff. I don't know if they changed owners or manager but it's gone downhill. My husband made an appointment for an eye exam through the Optical World website and we went in to the location about 10 minutes before his appointment and we were stared down by an older short bald man that didn't say hello and watched us like we were about to steal something. At least say hello and exchange some courtesies and make us feel welcome.. My husband finally said something about his appointment and the man said oh we don't have availability today because our doctor is slow and we can see you in 2 weeks on a Sunday. When he asked why the website allowed him to select the date and time the employee said he's not sure and he doesn't know why no one called him to say the appointment couldn't happen. It was literally the most dismissive experience and all of the staff was extremely rude. I don't recommend this business to even my worst enemy. read more

Terrible experience at Optical World - Aventura Mall On June 4th, my husband and I visited this store and picked out a pair of Christian Dior sunglasses. We were excited -- it was supposed to be a birthday gift for me. We came back around 8:40 PM to buy them, told the salesperson we'd be right back... but when we returned, the store was closed and he refused to let us in, even though it wasn't 9 PM yet. He was rude and dismissive, and we left upset -- no sunglasses, no birthday gift, just frustration.Very disappointing service. We won't be coming back. Horrible service and unfortunately one of the only places that will cover our insurance in our area. Owner/manager got rude when we asked to get a new pair of glasses - they will ONLY SELL YOU OLD PAIRS FROM THE STORE. Somehow we offended them when we asked to get a new pair ordered rather than the demos they have in the store that everyone puts one. There was a defect on the glasses we wanted to buy. It would have made sense to order a brand new pair that didn't get put on by everyone trying the models in the store. Got back to buy the glasses there when we couldn't find a viable alternative in the area. Store manager cancelled our order!! I would avoid this place. Worst experience. My husband and I both purchased new glasses and 2 months later we returned both pairs. Getting the glasses took longer than I was quoted. Mine had to be re-done because the lenses were not what I had specified. Optical World blamed my insurance company VSP. I was caught in the middle while starting a new job wearing old glasses. It was pretty awful. I had several phone conversations with the office manager Efrona. She never once apologized for all the inconvenience and had a nasty attitude. All I wanted were the glasses I ordered and paid for but they couldn't make it happen. My salesperson Brian was very nice and professional. I would not recommend this place though. It was a painful experience. I went to Hollywood Eyes and got the identical frame and lenses I specified in 6 days. We both love our new glasses. They used the same lab in Tampa through VSP. Every doctor I have seen has worked seamlessly to continue my eye care issues. The doctor I saw recently reviewed past concerns and progress. She is courteous, professional and very knowledgeable about the product as well as my insurance which has changed over the course of years. I feel I need to write this review even though it's been a year since I got my prescription for my glasses. Took the glasses back two times and didn't use them again because I thought something was off. I finally went back to my old optometrist this week he told me to read what I can see out of my right eye with the glasses. Nothing. Determined that they put the wrong prescription in the lenses along with the wrong prescription for my husband's contact lenses which we had to return which they said the doctor didn't sign off of. Be away from this place. My wife and I have been clients for many years. We went to do our annual contact lenses review. My lenses did not change so I was happy to continue with the same specs and manufacturer. The optometrist said that I did not need fitting as I had been using the lenses for one year without any problem. I was surprised when I was charged $93.50 for a fitting fee - when no fitting took, or will take, place. I complained and was told, very harshly, that I should talk with our vision plan provider. I called, and the provider was very clear - in this case, no fitting fee should be charged - simply because no fitting took place! Obvious! I called Optical World back but now they said the fitting fee payment was required to give me the prescription. It should now be called the prescription fee! I will never come back to this place, and you should do the same. read more

I Called to make an appointment for my sister after I saw the prices online. The most expensive frame was $ 300.00. $ 75.00 for an exam, I figure another $ 300.00 for whatever. I paid with my card......A THOUSAND DOLLARS. The receipt shows a whole bunch of inicials that I do not understand. I told them my sister did not live here, so I think they thought they would never hear from her again. I will call them and demand an explanation. This is a complete RIP OFF. The pair of lenses made wrong, paid in advance, I was asked by the merchant to pay for a consultation with their doctor in order to have it corrected and re-done, which I did, I paid for extra consultation. After the consultation, I asked them to keep and give me back the old lenses when changing for the new ones. After a while, I received the glasses with "new" lenses - in fact, they haven't made a new one, they were EXACTLY the same wrong ones, and of course they refused to give the old lenses back - and told me their return policy is non-refundable or non-exchangeable. So please, be aware, what they say is far from what they do! read more

So this is my 2nd review of this place. Please disregard the first review as I was quite naive and unaware that the wool was being pulled over my eyes. These people are clever crooks. They overcharged me for Transitional lenses and the eyeglasses did indeed darken upon sunlight exposure and then clear up while indoors, just as one would expect. But, the tint/dye was applied to the surface of the lenses. I know this now for a fact because I've had the glass lenses checked by a couple reputable, professional optical retailers- both of whom said the eyeglasses were defective. Plus, the grey tinting wore off within 4-5 months on the right lense. The left side lasted much longer, a little more than 2 years. In any event, true Transitional lenses are never supposed to be coated front or back with a shading/tinting substance. Rather, with glass lenses the manufacturer impregnates the lense via melting the glass and incorporating the special shading chemicals throughout the entire lense. In other words, the photochromatic characteristics are a permanent structural integrity of an authentic Transitional lense. Hang on though...there's more trickery and shady stuff going on here. Optical World also overbilled my insurance and I for a polycarbonate impact add-on for improved durability. Really? Wait just one minute, this extra is applied only to plastic lenses! What? These eyeglasses are composed of GLASS lenses! YIKES! I actually took the extra time and effort to report these scammers to my old insurance company from 3 years ago. Hold on to your seat folks because the plot thickens. When I first brought the issue up to the manager she just brushed me off, unfazed. She said I could have just easily replaced the original lenses with a competitors. So now she is attempting to turn the situation around to paint me as the unscrupulous one. Oh gosh, shall we play "Reverse Psychology" for heavens sake. Angered, I told her I was going to file a complaint against her company with Aventura Mall Management. Then she actually mocked me, stating that the lenses were real actual Transitional eyeglasses. So I stormed off and reported the incident as promised. By the time I returned 20-25 minutes later, the sales clerk who sold me the eyeglasses was already quite defensive. She demanded, " Why did you take 3 years to bring the eyeglasses in?" Well, gee whiz, so sorry I was not nearly as well versed in the optical field as you, Odette(name of my sales lady). But, then again, perhaps I will be playing educational catch-up with you so I'm not so thoroughly duped with future eyeglass purchases. BUYER BEWARE! read more

My husband used the insurance for his contact lenses and everything was fine so far, prescription and price. They did not carry the frames my husband wanted so we used an online optical store that we have used in the past and they have great service and awesome prices. When we received the glasses my husband could not see properly. He went back to the doctor and the initial prescription given to him was incorrect. We returned the glasses and they were sent to us for a second time with the new prescription. The second prescription was incorrect AGAIN. Given that Optical World already made a mistake twice, because the lenses were perfectly made according to the prescription given by them, I stopped by and requested for them to help us. The online optical store was offering to send uncut lenses for our optician to take care of it so we did not have to go to the hassle of returning the glasses again. I spoke with one of the clerks and after speaking with the manager they agreed to helps us. It was the least I was expecting since they have made a mistake twice and also this back and forth has taken 3 months. To our surprise they called the next day to take back their word and say they will not help us. Instead we can pay $300 for them to place the lenses on a frame that we already own. All they care is about money and not customer service. They will never have loyal customers with that kind of attitude. read more

I only came here because they are open late . I give them four stars for customer service and getting it done the same day. As for pricing it is cheaper outside of the mall. We got Taghuer frames for $450 with lenses and additional fancy lenses not even sure which ones but we paid $1100. I had the exact same order done online with same frames and paid $775 read more

I needed to set up an appointment for me, my wife, and my disabled son. I was told that they have a store policy of 2 family members per day maximum. I asked for an accommodation, based on the difficulty of travel and scheduling for my son. Nope, they didn't care, and even told me that the policy was due to "some families make appointments and don't show up." I found this insulting, as if he was directly telling me that my family cannot be trusted. I called Lenscrafters and they were more than happy to accommodate us. read more

Good prices, nice selection and the main eye Dr is very nice, however on my last visit I had the AUDACITY to ask an employee for a co-pay charge that I already paid on a previous visit. The person, whom I dealt with on previous visits, looked a me with eyes of rage, and addressed my question with "are you not charged with co-pay when you go to your doctor?", dismissing me as if I was slow in comprehension Later on during the transaction with another employee she intervened realizing the co-pay was already charged. Not a word of apology. When i went back to my own job at the mall I shared my experience with co-workers, which one of them agreed she isnt going back bc of a similar incident with the same employee. She also stopped referring customers to Optical World as so will I. Is partly my loss. I liked the Dr and the rest of the staff, but in order not to see that one woman again Im choosing to go somewhere else, where Im not ill spoken with a nasty attitude over a simple question. read more
