Until now, easily a 4 1/2 stars. This time, not so much. I was notified that my trials were ready and went in to pick them up. A week later I received a text that my order was ready, odd since I had not confirmed the trials worked but while near by went in to pick them up. Was told it was a duplicate message that went out by mistake. No problem, while I am here let's go ahead and order the contacts. Eight weeks later I call to see when they will be ready, told "sorry the order was never placed". Now have to wait another month, maybe two for them to arrive. Add to this my doctor was late and after 30 minutes had to see another doctor. Too much hassle for what is an above average market price point. Edit: I received a call from Dr. Dowdy and am amending my review. He reached out not to ask me to change it but to help find a satisfactory resolution to my concerns. Suffice to say we an achieved that. It's when things go sideways you have a chance to distinguish yourself. Thanks for striving to be better. read more

Once upon a time ago LensCrafters inside the Galleria carried Chanel but they no longer do. But that's ok because LensCrafters is out of network with my insurance company. I had contacted Chanel to see if anyone in the area carried Chanel optical frames and they referred me to Optical Expressions! I was a little skeptical on traveling far (Mind you, I traveled about an hour just to get my eye exam and frames. It's well worth the two hour trip to and from home). but they have a huge selection of frames which is awesome! More than I expected actually. Anyways, upon arriving, I was greeted and helped by Lisa and literally a month later she still as sweet as can be. The frames I wanted, were not in stock and she had ordered them for me. She told me it usually takes 15 days since they're being ordered out of the US. They came in an week later! Faster than I expected which was awesome. So instead of me traveling back out there, she had mailed them to me which was a huge plus! The glasses also arrived within two days after they had my lens made. She was just awesome from the start!!! I also had Dr. Julie to do my exam, she was super nice and friendly! I would highly recommend both ladies. Actually the entire staff was very friendly! Overall, If you're looking for an optical place with an extensive selection of frames and beyond awesome service....Optical Expressions is the place to go! read more

THIS PLACE SCAMS YOUR MONEY!! I'd say the experience with the doctor and staff was decent. But they have hidden charges! When I was getting my eye exam, they took some images for my eye (as it seems like to be part of the exam) but didn't tell that it was NOT covered and that was extra $19. Then, after telling them that it'd be my first time wearing contacts, they offered that their staff would teach me how to put on contacts, but didn't mention anything about extra cost. This ended up costing an extra $89 but NO ONE mentioned anything about the cost and made patients think it was all covered within insurance!!! I ended have to pay an extra $108 because the no one (including the doctor and the staff) told me about the hidden fees! If you go to other clinics, they don't ever charge you for this!! If you want to avoid hidden fees, you better off going to a different clinic. read more

I have been to their Clayton and Creve Couer locations. Both have very friendly staff, I wanted a specific frame that they did I not have in stock they went on-line to the manufacture verified the frame right then and there and ordered it. Came in as a new patient, they actually had a computer glitch...so when I arrived I received some blank looks, as my appointment had been lost. In any case, the receptionist I spoke with was pretty helpful and said that there would be no problem seeing the doctor. I was in and out within 45 minutes. The receptionist even helped me price compare contacts with OE's prices and with my favorite contact website. A smooth first visit makes me a fan. :)! read more

I recently got prescription readers from Optical Expressions and was pleased with the service I got. I had an eye exam from the doctor and let me just say that eye exams have gotten much more high tech than the last one I had about 8 years ago. Everyone was very friendly, and the service was quick and the woman who helped me pick frames was really helpful. I also really like that the location offers easy access with a nice parking lot. I saw the good reviews on here from a few years ago and tried to give them a shot since they're supposedly part of the BJC Barnes Eyecare network (more on that later). It didn't work out well. First problem was when they started giving me the new patient information. They suddenly drop a "mandatory" extra charge on you (which they conveniently do not tell you about when you call for a new patient appointment) for an Optomap scan for $20. If you don't know what that is, it's basically a lower quality but faster sibling of traditional retinal pictures that doesn't require you to have your eyes dilated. Problem #1 is that they use it instead of a traditional dilated eye exam. To use an analogy, it'd be like going to a pulmonologist and instead of listening to your lungs they charged you an extra $20 for a chest xray and never did an physical exam. Problem #2 is that it's not optional! I asked the front desk secretary if I could just have the optometrist do a regular dilated eye exam and was told I would "have to ask her about it but she usually wants to do the Optomap". Yeah, I'm sure she does want to get that extra 20 bucks instead of taking the time to do an exam. Buyer beware. Second problem was when I presented my insurance card for my Barnes Eyecare Network benefits. I had specifically let them know I would be using this benefit when I scheduled the appointment. This program is for BJC employees who have health insurance through BJC to receive a covered eye exam annually (with no co-pay) along with discounts on contacts, lenses and frames. The front desk girl then told me that, according to my insurance card, I would have to pay $50 dollars for a "specialist" visit (it's a medical insurance card...the $50 is for medical specialist visits). I showed her the Barnes Eyecare information, she said she'd have to get the office manager. Fine, no problem. The office manager comes out and literally just reads off my insurance card, again telling me I would have to pay a $50 co-pay. I again show her the information and ask her if she even knows they're a part of this network. She says yes (obviously hasn't) but just keeps reading off my card to me with no offer to contact either the insurance company or BJC to sort this out. The visit ended with me walking out and telling them to cancel my appointment. I'll go somewhere else where the office manager makes an attempt to look up what networks they're a part of. read more

Due to their great frame selection, Optical Expressions was recommended when our then six year old son started wearing glasses. The friend suggested I specifically asked for Lisa Calcaterra. She was not only professional but she helped our son find a pair of Nike frames he was happy to wear. My husband struggles with finding frames that are attractive and fit properly but Lisa always finds him the perfect pair. While on vacation, my husband lost his glasses in the ocean. One quick call and Lisa faxed his prescription to us. That is great customer service!!! This year our son is heading to high school. Lisa helped him select a pair of Prada glasses he loves! I had an appointment with Optical Expressions and when I arrived the staff kindly greeted me. I wasn't sure what my vision insurance was but the receptionist took my medical insurance card and patiently searched to discover my vision plan benefits and thoroughly explained my coverage to me. I can't tell you how confusing insurance is these days, my vision insurance is completely different than my medical insurance, I had no idea what it was. The practice has state of the art testing devices to check for everything from visual field screenings to macular dengeneration and glaucoma. I was very impressed with the pretesting equipment and everything that was done even before my exam! Dr. Tom was the doctor that examined me and he was great! He listened to my concerns not only with my prescription, but family history of glaucoma. He detailed to results of the pretesting that the tech had performed on me and took his time getting my prescription perfect. He is such a nice guy and funny too, he made me feel really comfortable in his office. Once my exam was finished he introduced me to Tammy who spent time picking out glasses for me and explaining available options for lenses. I was also impressed with how helpful the staff was with my glasses. It felt like a family there, everyone chimming in on which glasses they liked better. They have a huge selection of frames for men, women, and even children. I have a very strong prescription, so the lenses that Tammy recommended were exactly what I needed! When I picked my glasses up a week later Tammy was off so a different optician helped me and she was good too. They were very busy and I've had issues adapting to prescriptions in the past but Dr. Tom did a great job with my prescription! I got new digital progressives and they are the best lenses I've ever had, esp. since my script is so bad. The optician, Melinda I think was her name, did a good job adjusting the frames (which needed very little adjusting because Tammy did such a good job picking out the best frames for my face). Overall my experience at Optical Expressions was fantastic! The staff is friendly and knowledgable, the doctor is thorough and precise, the office is very clean and the technology they have and offer to their patients is top of the line! I will definitely refer this practice to my friends and family. In fact I've already scheduled an appointment for my daughter and husband for next week with Dr. Tom and Dr. Miles. read more
