She apologized for the poor communication, which I appreciate--though I'm not sure why the administrative assistant (whose role I assume is to communicate/schedule on behalf of the accountant) is less communicative than the accountant herself? They are very responsive when trying to get your business, but as soon as you pay they disappear off the face of the earth. I have no idea what the status of my tax return is, nor whether the proper returns were even filed. One of the state tax departments reached out to me asking me to pay more and Dimov tax will not even confirm whether they filed that return, nor advise me on what should be done. The "administrative assistant" assigned to my case has not responded to my emails for a week, and when I try to call her it instantly gets sent to voicemail. I'm not sure what kind of people get 5-star treatment here, but it's certainly not everyone. In the past, we've also tried to schedule calls due to difficulty communicating and getting answers over emails, but the staff made it extremely difficult to do so, asked for what our questions were over email, and then gave non-answers to the questions and cancelled the meeting saying that the questions were already answered. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it was peak tax season when we reached out and hence we had difficulty reaching them, but the pattern is very clear: when they want payment, they will respond; after payment is given, service drops to almost zero. I would highly advise you to stay away from this business.

So I looked for an accountant. Now, I've never dealt with accountants before, so I had no idea what to expect. What I found was a lot of people in nice offices with slick brochures and fancy sales pitches who were happy to do my taxes...for $800 or more. Yikes! But I figured that was just the going rate, and resigned myself to paying it. Then I called Charlene. Charlene told me she'd do my taxes for under $200. I was astonished. I was also skeptical, to be honest -- her price was so much cheaper that it made me a little suspicious. But it was a hell of a deal. I said yes. Charlene drove out to my house and met with me in my kitchen. We talked for maybe an hour, and she reviewed the tax documents I had on hand. Charlene walked me through a ton of issues right there on the spot, and came up with lots of deductions, big and small, that would never have crossed my mind. She easily paid for herself right there. Then she asked me to send her a couple other documents via secure email and said that once she had them, she'd take care of my taxes. A few weeks later (and with plenty of time to spare), she sent me the returns. They were spot-on. I gave my assent, she filed them, and I got my refund in short order. No hassle at all. I couldn't be happier with Charlene. She got me more money than TurboTax, did it with less hassle than TurboTax, and charged me a quarter what the big guys do. I still don't understand how she can be so much cheaper, but I'm not complaining. I'm planning to go with Charlene every year from here on out.

I also believe I went through 4 different CPAs from my original chat in March to Now September 2023. Don't believe the hype. Find a local CPA who actually cares. This is a horrible service and company.

I never feel rushed or anything like that. A reminder is sent in December to let you know that you should schedule an appointment or upload all your documents to the SmartVault before the appointment or as a substitute for your appointment. Smart Vault is where they store all your past tax documents, which comes in handy if it's ever needed. This year, I decided to explore the other options and utilized the SmartVault option, so all I had to do was upload all my documents and just wait until Joe get a chance to process it. Joe called me with additional questions. After all said and done, he sent me notification that it's ready to file, and all I had to do was reviewed, signed, scanned, and upload to SmartVault for filing. The invoice for the service is also included, and you can make a payment over the phone with Sally. This is so convenient, and such an innovation way to do your taxes without having to leave the comfort of your home and fight traffic. Super awesome!
