I'm shocked. My experience with most insurance businesses has led me to equate it used car salesmen. They sniff you out and only care about the sale - by ripping you off. Here's what happened. I needed commercial auto insurance. I personally called: - geico - progressive - farmers - hartford - veracity None of them said they will insure us for just auto only. So I had to go to local brokers and agents - the last thing I wanted to do. I contacted an agent for: - insurance northwest - farmers - 3 other places that I won't name as they run their own business under their own name - lastly BIG Seattle For two 20 yr old vans with 200k+, used 1 mile a day roundtrip to drop off packages at the post office, needing only the cheapest insurance possible. All agents quoted me $4000-6000. Ridiculous. Then I get a call from Belltown and rather than tossing me a quote, they took 10 minutes to call me, understand our business and provided a quote for $1800 from the same big company. Boom. Signed, sealed, delivered. Moving over all my insurance to them soon. Other insurers, read and learn - that's how you win business. read more

Moved to CA mid last year and State Farm's auto and home insurance rates were so high out here so I did some rate shopping. I spent a lot of time getting quotes from almost every company Google provided me info on and Belltown came out on top, using one of those companies I had separately gotten a quote on. They must get a discount of some sort because even when I called the company personally (out of incredulity), and spent time getting another quote, I couldn't even get the same price Belltown did. So of course I enrolled through Belltown. Better pricing, I can email or call Ed with any question or task during business hours without going though a million phone menu options, and get quick response! I haven't gotten into any accidents and there was one question Ed where apologized and said I had to call the insurance company directly but that experience was surprisingly painless. RE: Weston Sprigg Three cheers for Weston! I work for a captive insurance agency whose rules are very strict when it comes to SR22 filings. One of my clients needed an SR22 and we couldn't accommodate this request. I called another well-known high risk insurance broker who reluctantly offered a quote. I then called Weston who took a ridiculous amount of time out of his day to quote identical coverages to what the client had (without passing judgment) and checking a variety of companies. When we decided to go through Weston he then went through the options to make the insurance more affordable. I can't say enough good things about my experience. I had a young client in the office who in the matter of an afternoon found out his drivers license was suspended, I couldn't give him the insurance he needed and then he found the insurance through Weston for a price he could afford. This would never had happened if Weston hadn't taken the time to answer our questions and walk us through the options. read more

I had a good auto insurer years ago and then one day got a call from an agent there who said they were going out on their own. After assuring me he could do a comparable/better job, I figured I could always which back if not. So I went with him. He is James Monheimer now of Belltown Insurance Group. He is a broker. Fast forward 2 or 3 years and I (finally) notice I'm now paying two thirds more for the same insurance, but now via another agency. So I go back to my original auto insurer and the original rate. Soon as I do, guess who I get a call from? (And how does he know I switched?) "Oh, i know a great agent at this place, your gonna...." I tell James, "Not interested" Moral is this guy was patient, but I suspect he figured my attention would wane, especially with direct withdrawal, and wouldn't notice my rate going up, or would forget what I was originally paying, or whatever.....and he could get my money. And he did, until I called my old insurer and sure enough, my original low rate was sitting right on the table, waiting for me to snap out of it. Should never have left..... My response doesn't stop James from sending me all these quotes form 7 or 8 insurance agencies, complete with great low rates. Well, where was James with these great rates for all these years? What the hell is the purpose for having an agent if they won't occasionally do something in your interests? Is it really waiting game, until they think they got you, then raise rates? I doubt there is one good reason to have an auto insurance agent. And I have my doubts about a lot of brokers, especially their long term agendas, though I know some who have answered well in the short term Think about it, a representative at the insurance agency is no less "personal" than an agent, whom I doubt you'll hear from until you threaten to switch, and so, why the middleman? Plus on this page full of quotes James sent me, I notice "Credit Scored: Yes". Well he wouldn't tell me what that meant, and soft hit though it is or would be, it is illegal for them to have your credit run without your authorization. You can call the Department of Insurance if you have a problem with these people. Hope this episode helps you make a better decision. :) read more

At one time I gave this place 5 stars, because I had an initial bad experience with a representative who was too lazy to do his job, and the owner stepped into fix things. But after dealing with this company for a few years, I can say that the initial bad experience has been the real theme. I have had to change information or my address on my policies a few times, and each time the owner has been a real $@!* about it, whining about how much time it takes just to change an address. Hey, buddy, if the insurance companies make that a hassle for you, 45 minutes or whatever you complained to me about, then take it up with them. I'm the one paying you to manage these things. Even worse, I discovered after the fact that that on one such occasion instead of changing my address, the owner decided it would be easier to just not do it. My renewal notice was sent to my old address and the policy was cancelled because I never received it. Thanks for helping me with my business and insurance needs, BIG! I made sure the insurance carrier knows what a great job you are doing, as well. read more
