I also had the beef patty recently and it's perfect. The special sauce she makes for her white rice is to die for. I'm going to ruffle some feathers with this one, but skip the plates and get the tacos. The plate wasn't bad at all, it's just that the taco was mind blowing. I tried the shrimp taco and I'm excited to go back and try the chicken. I think the price for the plate is just a little high compared to the tacos. I did take away an additional star for the service. I was the only one there to pick up, and the lady kept talking over me or just ignoring me. I felt like I was unwanted there, and the way she spoke to the DoorDash drivers gave me the vibe that this is how it always is. It is a little pricey, but if you're getting the tacos, I would say it's worth it. This spot has a dining room, but with the hostile vibe, I wouldn't encourage staying there. My friend and I went to Open Caribbean Kitchen after ordering a few minutes from closing time. They graciously answered the phone and took our orders. They said it would be 15 minutes so we drove over there. We both got the jerk chicken meals and when we arrived they were still cooking the food. The outside of the building is very unassuming, the inside is definitely a lot bigger than you'd think. I didn't take any pictures of the food but it was the jerk chicken wings, a side of rice and a special jerk sauce. My friend had the sauce, I couldn't because it's dairy based. He thought it was delicious but honestly I didn't think the food needed it. Even the plain white rice which I'm not normally a fan of was seasoned to perfection. Everything was reasonably priced for the portions you get. Just remember to bring cash when you go! read more

The food is very good and portions are really nice however it becomes pricey when you opt for a staple traditional side like rice and beans or cabbage (which is fire!!). I understand an upcharge for upgrading from white rice and mixed vegetables, but to pay the cost of a side is a bit much. My boyfriend tried the jerk chicken tacos on Friday, and after hearing about how amazing they are for no less than 23.5 hours straight... we went back for dinner on Saturday. The tacos are worth raving about! One serving is a box of 3 HUGE tacos! I tried the jerk chicken spaghetti which they were out of but the chef was great and made it happen for me and my unprepared taste buds. Jackie, the hilarious front of house, makes you feel welcome in a laid back dine in experience , gives great insight on the menu, and will keep you cackling during your meal. If your taste buds can only handle basic spice level don't let it deter you, the chef was more than happy to tone down the spaghetti for me and it was fantastic! But the chef of the restaurant threw in this order of cabbage. I'm assuming it's jerk cabbage. He told me to give him an honest review on Google and Yelp. Well, here's my honesty. Hands down some of the best cabbage I've ever had. I can order that with a side of rice and be fine. I love jerk wings, I get that every single time with extra special sauce that they put on their rice on the side because it's fire! One of the best restaurants in Kentucky. Especially from The Roots. A 5 star for those that don't mind a lil bit more but not overboard. However, I feel Iike the seasoning is a bit much to the world thats stepping into a new healthy way of eating. Otherwise, the food was textured just right and perfectly tender. Being from Chicago where jerk is view as something hot and tasty, this speaks to the more traditional Caribbean taste that's not so hot but full of flavor.
