The donuts looked amazing! I decided today was the day that I tried them, too. Please do not let the dated exterior (I spotted an actual public phone! Not sure if it's operational, though) or dated interior detract you, nor the hand written cash only signs. If you must, you can pay by zelle or venmo I believe. They have a small shared parking lot with Church's Chicken. It was easy to park in front of the business at 9am today. The gentleman behold the counter greeted me right away, and was very patient while I made my selections for a dozen donuts. I also decided to try their HUGE Jalapeno ham and cheese croissants. These donuts were fresh, fluffy, doughy and delicious. I tried the sugar, glazed, boston creme, maple bar, raspberry and strawberry filled donuts. Yes! They are all amazing. The croissant was also fabulous. Light, airy, flaky, buttery layers hid the jalapeno ham cheese filling in the middle. I didn't get too much jalapeno, but idc I loved the croissant anyway. I paid $29 for a dozen donuts and the two gigantic croissants. This place is old school- There were paper i. o.u's taped up beside the cash register...some had written the dates that they paid up for some items, so obviously this establishment has a loyal and trustworthy customer base and community relationship that is hard to find nowadays. I will definitely come back and perhaps pay it forward for some of those i.o.u's!

Came in to pick up an order from the anti-food-waste app 'too good to go', and the owner/man that…read morewas working was extremely rude. He stood almost in the back and mumbled and I asked if he could repeat himself and when he did a fire truck went by so I waited for it to pass and asked if he could please tell me one more time and he gave me the nastiest look and started at me before rolling his eyes huffing and mumbled again. At that point I just walked out and contacted the app support for a refund. And as I'm leaving he yells out, "have a good day!"... So he obviously is capable of raising his voice above a mumble. And even though it was the last hour, they are open and maybe he wants to go home or just be done for the day- But you chose to put your restaurant on this app with a pick up time until 8 PM. Maybe the owner should rethink his hours or even just retire because I have never seen somebody so miserable at a job before. And on top of it, the security guard who is supposed to be monitoring the building was lounging around and they're hanging out looking just as lazy and miserable, and therefore the parking lot was a mess because apparently neither of these men know how to do a job.... I would rate zero out of zero if I could. Simply for the lack of customer service and how disgusting the man acted. So gross.. probably hates females.... But thinking back on it, it was probably for the best that I didn't get any of the unclean food because there were so many flies inside of his display cases.

He was the only one I knew of in San Diego doing maple bars as eclairs -I'm so sad that I haven't been able to find that anywhere else. Some honorable mentions were the donuts holes, the old fashions, and the crullers. The service was always polite, warm, and familial -this guy knew and remembered his customers, even if not by name. The reason I found out he sold it and retired was because he saw and recognized me walking the pier in IB :D He and his wife were always welcoming, like you were a family member visiting for a snack and a good chat. The place has generous seating available, always clean and never dirty or messy, and is in a prime business lot at the intersection of IB Blvd/Coronado Ave and 13th Street. I've only been back once since the place was sold and I wasn't really into the flavors offered at that time, plus they were no longer offering the maple eclairs. Not sure if they are now, but I'm sure their other donuts are good since they've got good reviews and were in the Reader last year. Go check them out!
