Warning: Sensitive Teeth? Please read…read more I'm not one to shy away from a good teeth-whitening adventure, but my recent experience was more "ouch" than "ahh." After years of slaving away with home whitening kits (think: tedious repetition and questionable results), I decided to take the plunge and try a professional service. The reviews were glowing, and I was sold. The business itself was a breath of fresh air; clean, calming, and staff as friendly as a dental hygienist on a sugar high. My "whitener" (I love that term) walked me through the 1.5-hour process, warning me that dehydration could lead to discomfort. I nodded, confident in my ability to guzzle water like a camel. The first two rounds were a breeze. But, dear reader, the third round was where things took a turn for the worse. "Zingers" - that's what they called the sharp, painful blasts in my gums. I called it "agony." It started with a single, alarming jolt, followed by a fireworks display of discomfort (minus the festive atmosphere). I high-tailed it to the sink, rinsed, and chugged water like it was going out of style. The zingers eventually subsided, and I was left with a sparkling smile - or so I thought. Fast-forward four hours, and I was sitting in a restaurant, feeling like I'd been cast in a real-life episode of "Naked and Afraid" - minus the rugged outdoors, but with a healthy dose of tooth agony. My nerve endings were doing the cha cha slide, and I was regretting my life choices. The pain was so intense that I resorted to a multi-pronged attack: I brushed, I rinsed with ACT, I applied the "hydrating" gel they provided, and I even busted out the Sensodine (because, why not?). Ibuprofen was my new BFF. Eight. Long. Hours. That's how long it took for the pain to subside. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was one of the worst nights of my life. And, spoiler alert: the whitening effects didn't even last. My teeth are now back to their natural, slightly stained state, and I'm okay with that. In fact, I'm more than okay - I'm thrilled to be coffee-sipping and wine-savoring without the risk of teeth-induced torture. To anyone with sensitive teeth, I say: proceed with caution (and a healthy dose of skepticism). For me, the temporary bright smile just wasn't worth the agony.

This was my first time at Bayshore Dental, and I was referred there by my primary dentist for…read morewisdom teeth removal. I went in expecting a straightforward procedure that had already been evaluated through multiple X-rays beforehand. At no point during any of those prior appointments was I told that I would need additional services outside of what my insurance covered. What happened instead was honestly shocking. It wasn't until I was already in the chair, hooked up to all the equipment, and literally seconds away from being put under anesthesia that one of their assistants approached me with consent forms for "additional services" totaling $1,600. This was the first time I had ever heard about these "needed" services. They told me my insurance didn't cover these services and that the surgeon would not perform the procedure unless I agreed to pay. Being put in that position, vulnerable, prepped for surgery, and then pressured to sign forms for thousands of dollars that were never previously disclosed, it felt completely inappropriate. When I refused and pushed back, the price suddenly dropped from $1,600 to $550 after someone went back to speak with them. That alone raised serious red flags. If these charges were legitimate and necessary, why were they never mentioned during the multiple X-rays and consultations leading up to surgery? Why wait until I was strapped into the chair and about to go under anesthesia? I ended up leaving and sitting in my car while my primary dentist tried to sort it out. I no longer felt comfortable proceeding there after how the situation was handled. Now I have to delay getting my wisdom teeth removed for another month or two which is extremely inconvenient considering that me and my partner both took time off of work to make time for the surgery that was supposed to happen. This experience felt like a last-minute pressure tactic to get additional money out of a patient who was already in a vulnerable position. Transparency and informed consent should happen before the day of surgery! Certainly not when someone is seconds away from being sedated. I would strongly advise anyone considering this office to get every single charge in writing well in advance and question anything that hasn't been clearly disclosed upfront. Extremely disappointed.

By 9:05, then 9:15, I still hadn't been acknowledged--not even a simple "thank you for your patience." During that time, several other patients arrived, and at least three of them were called in before me, despite checking in after I did. At that point, it became frustrating. I value being on time, and it felt disrespectful to be overlooked while others who arrived later were seen first. I chose to leave before 9:30 a.m. due to the lack of communication and the way my appointment was handled. I did receive a call asking if I was still there, but by then the experience had already been frustrating enough to walk away. As someone who already has anxiety about dental visits, this made the situation even worse. I chose this office based on its reputation for being patient-focused, but that was not reflected in my experience at all. I chose this location based on positive reviews and their reputation for being patient and accommodating, especially for those with dental anxiety. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect that at all. While this office is conveniently located near me, I'll likely consider a different location or another provider altogether.

I was told on 5/1 that a refund has been issued after I requested a refund - as of today I still have not received my $82.50 refund. Update: I walked in today (4/27) to tan & was told my account is inactive / locked and there was nothing she could do unless the manager was there to override. I asked the floor staff to contact Kevin after locating my most recent receipt. She tried once and let me know he didn't answer. I sent an email and then waited 30 minutes to see if he'd respond so I didn't make the trip for nothing but he has not responded. If my membership was cancelled, I fully expect to be notified & to see $82.50 refunded to my card. Considering I paid my membership on 4/19 - the only conclusion I can come to is that Kevin decided to cancel my membership because of the below review/suggestion. I've been coming here for six years and don't have much negative to say but I do have a suggestion due to frustration when beds go down. Note: On 4/25 bed 6 was down. Situation: You have a (gold) customer who's been waiting in the parking lot since 20 min before opening and just before opening another customer comes in and jumps in the only working bed (meaning a 12-15 minute wait in addition to the 20min spent in the parking lot). Customer options at Cal tan - Pay for an upgrade to avoid the wait (that's a no since I pay $80 a month already) Wait 12-15 min extra (this makes your time at cal tan nearly an hour in total) Or downgrade so you can get done (but still pay the same) --------- Suggestion: your customer should 10000% receive a complimentary upgrade if a bed or beds on their tier are out of service. I've never been the member of a tanning establishment that doesn't show their customers they value them when situations like this arise. It's truly a bummer and I highly suggest taking the pressure off your floor staff and keeping your customers' weekends less packed with waiting.
