My husband and I had our wedding at Opal 28 in July, and everything was perfect! We loved the accessibility of having the apartments just a flight of stairs away. The venue is so perfectly vintage yet neutral. It meant we could make anything out of the space that we wanted, but didn't have to work to fix everything, because the bare bones are beautiful. It was perfectly and comfortably sized for our 50 guest wedding! We loved being able to bring in our own caterer, because we have a family friend who owns a local restaurant. Margot is so easy to work with! Every step of the way she was available to help, and continuously gave us great suggestions for making our day incredibly special and personalized. She even helped us fit a 10 piece band out on the patio! Our guests loved it! They're still talking about how beautiful the space was and how great the apartments were! The photos are incredible, because there are so many little gems hidden throughout the space! We will definitely be back, and would recommend this to anybody hosting an event! read more

Our organization utilized Opal 28 for a staff retreat and we couldn't have asked for a better location. I appreciated that they catered food (which was delicious) in house, so I didn't have to worry about finding a separate company to bring outside food in. The communication was on point and they went over every detail with a fine-toothed comb to make sure that the day went off without a hitch. They also made handicap accommodations for a staff member in a wheelchair, which is another aspect that was much appreciated. I've found out the hard way that there are too many retreat venues in Portland that have stairs, but Opal 28's building arrangement makes it inclusive for everyone. The only acceptation to that is the outside patio, but it wasn't necessary for what we needed. Parking was made easy with the use of their lot. All in all, if you're debating on using Opal 28, don't think twice! read more

We just had our wedding reception here in June. We rented the three vacation rentals above the venue the night before and the night of. We used Opal's bar service and appetizer service. I give EVERYTHING 5 stars. Margot is a thoughtful, organized, and creative event hostess. She is responsive and seemed excited to work with us throughout the entire process. My husband and I were extremely happy with the outcome of the evening, but I think the icing on the cake is the guests at our receptions feedback. Everyone I have talked to about the event afterwards has told me that the loved the space and that all of the staff that were working did a fantastic job. The loved all the thoughtful details that went into the space. Margot also gave me several fantastic referrals that I fully utilized. Our photographer used many different areas within the space to capture the day and from the photos I have seen so far I am thankful to have picked a space with all the charm and character that Opal has to offer. If you host an event here, do yourself a favor and rent the apartments upstairs. They are convenient, cozy, and it is nice to kick back and relax after your event. We had a total of 90 guests, we were a little worried that many people would be tight, but it wasn't at all. We could have easily had an additional 20 guests and still been comfortable. So, Opal 28 as a space is awesome... but Margot as the owner/manager makes renting this space for your event a NO brainer. The least stressful part of my wedding was the reception location. Margot made everything manageable and perfect. And, she picks staff that go above and beyond to make your experience exceed your expectations. If I could give this space 10 stars I would, but yelp only lets me go up to 5. read more

We checked out opal 28 for a potential place for our wedding and at first we were pretty excited to make a commitment to the venue. They offer all inclusive packages that were nice but a little spendy. But almost everything was included, so we were going to make it work to make it easy. They showed us the place right after a Nike meeting so it took some imagination to look through the business set up and imagine my wedding. I'd wished it were more cleaned up and I would have been happy to wait but they seemed eager to show me the place. A lot of the rest of the space was in transition mode too, so there was a lot of imagining to do. This is my first time planning a wedding, my wedding, so I had some silly questions and probably asked them more than once. I didn't really like the attitude of the girl I worked with. It felted rushed and awkward. I asked about price flexibility and she told me I was at cost for everything. We were still ready to commit, and had gathered the deposit money but still had a few remaining questions about childcare which is mentioned in the brochure I was given . When I asked, I didn't get the same speedy response I did before meeting them and seeing the space. I also didn't get clear answers and it became obvious that they were annoyed with me and didn't want my wedding to be with them. They never followed up with me again so I decided to find another venue. I'm disappointed as this was my first and favorite pick as was my fiancé's. But if the staff acts that way I'd hate to deal with them on a day as important as my wedding day. read more

My husband and I stayed in one of their apartments while visiting Portland this week. Not only was the apartment gorgeous, clean and roomy, the service we received from Margot was amazing. She was so attentive and helpful any time we needed help with something or had a question. Every time I messaged her she would respond within a minute or two! I was absolutely amazed at the amount of space we had, the bathroom was fully stocked with anything you could possibly need, the kitchen had coffee and a coffee maker along with anything you could need if you wanted to make food. It really made the whole trip a great experience, not to mention that the location is awesome! There are so many great restaurants around and getting downtown was very very easy and quick. We rented a car and Margot let us park it in the Opal 28 lot so we didn't even have to worry about parking! Overall I highly recommend this place and the next time we come to Portland we will definitely be staying here! read more

We had our Rehearsal Dinner for our son and new Daughter in Law here and it was magical! The staff was so helpful and worked extremely hard to make things go smoothly ( which they did). We had a staff retreat meeting here and it was perfect! We moved from a seated conference table to the lounge area for our different sessions, which offered a nice change of pace. Lunch was delicious, and sitting outside on the patio area in the summer was lovely. Margot gave us cold ice cream sandwiches after lunch. She is the perfect hostess and organizer. God, where to start? Seriously, everything was perfect! First, we switched venues about 3 months before the wedding because we had a smaller guest list than anticipated (it was a destination wedding for everyone). I was stressed, looking for a venue that was small, in our price range, and could offer the 1920s feel for our themed wedding. I had originally passed over this venue initially because I wasn't sure if it would fit the theme. I was so wrong to do that! We finally went in to look at the venue and the website did not do it justice. The space is beautiful and flexible, it was literally transformed to a romantic, vintage but glam lounge. It was better than anything I had imagined and planned for! Kristi was phenomenal to work with from the start. She was responsive to emails, super friendly, and worked great with our wedding coordinator to ensure our vision was carried out. They even let us use one of the apartments to wait in before the ceremony since we got ready at the hotel, and had two bottles of champagne waiting for us. It's the little things that are important to me. The small details such as having our signature drinks waiting for us when we got back from photos around the city during cocktail hour, to making sure we were fed first so we didn't starve all evening. Kristi even special ordered the gin we wanted for one of the signature drinks and the team also offered champagne in the dining room right before the toasts. We were even able to send in our recipe for the bartender to use. The venue was full service and had our decor cleaned up and ready for our parents to take after the sparkler send off, which was impressive! That way no one had to wait around after. I appreciated everything Opal 28 had to offer and highly recommend them for any event! read more

My husband and I held our 10th anniversary party at Opal 28. Our wedding was a potluck in a backyard, so this was the only large event we have ever put on. Margo was stellar and supportive as I fumbled through the planning process. She is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and accommodating. We brought our own infused liquors for the open bar, and Margo's staff set up our catered food (Al Amir). Everything went so smoothly. The venue is beautiful. The location is uber convenient. The outdoor courtyard is on two levels, so people had room to spread out while maintaining intimate conversations. All of our guests were impressed. I'd recommend Opal 28 to anyone. I love that Opal 28 has AirBnB apartment upstairs that you can rent, too! They've been remodeled, and are super cute We stayed in an apartment that had stairs directly to the courtyard, so we got to chill there before guests showed up. It's all very well put together.
