Filthy and beautiful. Regardless of whether you're vegan or not you'd be missing out if you don't pop in!

I will be honest and say that I had little hope for this place when I stepped in (or shall I say…read morestep down) into their underground themed restaurant. Yes, underground sounds pretty cool, huh? What did not appeal to me were the tiles which did not look clean but it may be because it's an old place-who knows ! The room is dim and quiet, just a few tables occupied on a Saturday afternoon. The waitress was nice but seemed to keep forgetting that she had asked the same question twice in 30 seconds. I have to say that when the food came, my friend and I had nothing to complain about. Yes, it wasn't like our mums food but it was good enough for a restaurant away from home. I really enjoyed the Babaganoush, Hummos and grilled fish. The Tabouleh seemed to satisfy the taste buds too! After a good three course meal, walking seemed extremely difficult! Would I go back? Yes, because it was the only decent Lebanese food restaurant in Bristol.

Lunchtime Special Menu review only…read more This may well be the best value lunch in Bristol. I've lived here 33 years and cant think of another! £4.95 includes: 6 little dishes consisting of a well seasoned salad, Hummus, aubergine puree, stuffed vine leaves and a stuffed pastry all served with flat bread....mmmm you may think, but that's pretty normal fayre. THEN they serve a plate of mixed meat and beautiful flavoured rice. I chose the spicy and it was a medium pokey, very flavoursome. The atmosphere is, well, cave-like, because you're in a cave-like cellar! Its low ceilings lend itself to intimacy and you really feel like you're dining alone, even if the room is packed. Soft drinks are all £1.50 and the evening menu is reasonably priced (around £10 a main) but incomparable value wise to the lunch time menu. Caters well for Gluten-Free I cant give it a 5* because I haven't had the evening menus (but I doubt the food would quite be 5*) and the steps are incredibly steep, making it difficult for children, and, id imagine, disabled access is difficult if not non-existent. Id go for lunch, id go for a fun date, id go with a bunch of mates, but probably not a 'trying to impress' meal or with Grandma. Enjoy!

Believe the hype…read more Kino is my favourite cafe in the UK. Trips from London to Bristol have been scheduled in the past for no other reason than a Kino Visit and will be scheduled in the future for no other reason for a Kino Visit. I do have friends in Bristol, but it's very much Kino first, friends second. And I say that only semi-jokingly. They have a space downstairs where they put on arts stuff. I once saw a play there called Whiskey Tango. The food and drink is all vegan, and is all great. I am a vegetarian, not a vegan, but it never feels like you're just eating a bunch of lentils here. The food has a substantial feel to eat, which they sort of engender by having vegan bacon in their sandwiches, etc. I usually go for a milkshake and the vegan breakfast. I feel an immense satisfaction after having consumed these items. There's so much variety on the menu that I should really try something new each time I come, although I usually end up sticking to the old favourites. There are so many cakes, biscuits, teas, sandwiches etc available that there really is something for everyone. Even the most hardened carnivore would struggle not to like this place. There's something about the space, too, that I like. You feel very free inside. It has a nice community feel to it. The staff have always been great. Give this place a go. But be careful. You might never leave.

I love the decor- very mythical fishermen with posters for movies and wanted signs. They have an extensive menu, including alcohol and their cider comes in 500ml bottles. I've been told it's quite expensive in local standards but for the atmosphere it's worth it. I'd like to give a shoutout to one of the chefs. We had shown up here and the hostess had said they were not taking any one without a reservation. But there were open tables. Disappointed, we walked out. Standing in front of the restaurant, trying to figure out what to do, the cook comes out and says they will make room for us. Absolutely the sweetest. We were so stoked to eat at this place again. He even brought out tasty food out to us himself!

The local chippy may have won some awards, but the takeaway vibe isn't so enticing. So when you want a bit more of a dining experience this is a modest cafe style setting that's nicely decorated in the centre of town. We parked in the back streets on a meter. My haddock and chips and Sam's cod and chips were freshly made and really good. Our waitrees gave us friendly service and was attentive. We went in the early evening in early Jan and it was pretty empty.

When I first walked past their 'sausage' rolls, and scotch eggs my eyes glazed over, knowing that these meaty treats were strictly off limits. I've been a vegetarian for almost ten years but still can't resist the look of roast dinner or shepherd's pie. So imagine my delight when I realised they were 100% veggie friendly! I know in the past I've bored friends to death in the pursuit of convincing them that soya and meat-like products were just as scrumptious as the real thing, but Royce Rolls is an all-round winner. Even I can admit that some vegetarian alternatives can taste a bit anaemic and cardboard-y, but everything from their samosas to their ciabattas are packed with enough flavour to keep everyone happy. And if you're in the mood for something sweet - they've got something for vegans, vegetarians and carnivores a-like. This is a food basket of sterling sustenance that's been tamping veggie foodstuffs into freshly baked rolls since 1979, which I'm told makes it Bristol's oldest cafe. By keeping the prices down they've cultivated a loyal clientele of local office workers and stallholders alike and it's an ideal place to stop off for a roll 'n' bowl of something or a Fair Trade tea at a fair-trade price when out browsing the stalls in St Nick's Market. Lucy, who took the business over a couple of years ago, hails from a foodie background and knows that with pit-stop catering you have to keep it fresh, filling and unfangled - but don't think keeping it simple means lesser quality, as there's nothing naff about this caff - their ciabbata roll filled with chunky-sliced tomato and Italian herbs drizzled in olive oil is a prime example of stylish simplicity and is now a favourite sandwich combo when I'm having a midnight snack attack.
