I have always been a low maintenance gal. I used to get a haircut once a year from supercuts and dye my hair using the box stuff. About seven years ago I decided to grow my hair out and didn't even get a trim until the greys in my brunette scalp started to get to me. Long story, yes, but just painting the picture that led me to Oomph and my girl Kristin. I decided on a whim three days before I started a new job back in June to start having my hair cut and dyed professionally. I asked some friends for recommendations and perused Yelp, of course. Oomph was highly recommended and bonus was you could book online. I got a consultation for color and a haircut with Kristin. I've now been back two times and I love my hair! The experience is great and I always come out feeling confident and happy. My hair is shinier, softer and more beautiful than ever and I'll never go anywhere else. If you are looking for a salon in the seacoast area, you won't be disappointed. The service and expertise you'll get at Oomph would be hard to beat. This place has gone way downhill. Prices are way higher and quality of stylists and service has declined - by a lot. I was pawned off on another stylist while my regular was out - she had almost no experience and the color /cut wasn't great. Yet i was charged the same as my much more experienced stylist. Came in for a partial foil beautiful atmosphere, I had gone in for a consultation the week prior to my appointment with IDK a level 4 person. She quoted me a price of 120$. two hours later i think she was still putting color on and playing receptionist at the same time super slow. Not sure. The service was impersonal, and the stylist never asked me any questions. finally, after she washed my color out and combed it. I was pulling clumps of burnt hair off my head and putting it on her station. She had not said anything as my hair was in three piles at this point. she asked if id like a cut and let me know she was leaving my hair wet? I let her know that since its all broken off maybe it would be a good idea to clean it up. not sure if she actually cut anything at all its very uneven and the blow dry was horrible and sticky. I am so disappointed at this point i just want to leave this place. Apparently, the lovely new receptionist I had met was out that day. I go to check out and pay she says i owe her $200 more than she quoted because of some pricing system that I was not made aware of. So now not only did she burn the XXXXyz out of my hair and give me the worst service experience ever. its now $320. What a bait and switch. I am so horrified and my hair is so dry and damaged . I grew my hair out for more than six years and with a lot of careful thought and planning decided to cut off more than 14 inches for a donation. Oomph having a good reputation and a high price tag, I put my trust in. I even Sprang for a level 4 stylist, came in with several photos of exactly what I wanted, an a line. I left with a flat bob haircut with no oomph at all. I pointed this out to the stylist while leaving and this was brushed aside. Disappointed, I reached out to the manager several times that week. It being a holiday week it was harder to get back to me. They scheduled me with a level 5 stylist to fix the cut at no charge but unfortunately the damage had been done. My hair has to now grow out AGAIN for me to have the cut that I originally asked for. Two haircuts in and even with a level 5 stylist on the job it is not fixable and I'm left wondering if I should schedule a third haircut with another salon or wait an indeterminate amount of time to get the haircut I clearly asked for. Went in excited for a big hair change that involved careful planning and left disappointed. level 4 Kristin did original cut. This is among the experiences that diminish my trust in hairstylists and reminds me of why I stopped cutting my hair to begin with. I just love it here. The vibe is so cool; a lot of attention to detail with the decor. I think the stylists are great, booking is easy, plenty of parking, bars near by to show off your new look, and the owner is very responsive to questions. Be sure to check the contract that they have you sign before getting services. If you are late or a no-show then you are going to pay as much as 200.00 penalty. I realize that their time is valuable and no-shows are rude. The information is buried in innocuous paperwork. They would do well to mention the policy as well. Further, if you do violate their TOS the owner sends you a demeaning hate note with unnecessarily cruel personal attacks. I mean really cruel..... There are some very good stylists in this salon, which is breaking its back to brand itself as an exclusive, snooty upscale MaraLargo of the North East. I gave this Salon a 2 because of the stylists. I thought I loved Oomph. I met a stylist, got some great cuts from her, and declared myself a fan. And then my kid got a haircut there. Same price as an adult cut and it wasn't a good cut. And then my stylist left and I saw a different stylist. She gave me a cut and a balayage + dye and the cut was fine but not great but the balayage fried my hair and the color was gone within a month. Super nice! We went in and it was very bohemian rustic but also chic vibes all around. They asked if we wanted any drinks and offered wine and soda and water, can't remember maybe more. I have really really really thick and long hair and the woman totally knew how to deal with it which was refreshing. She was kind and fun to talk to. She did a great job and cut it exactly how I wanted. She thinned my hair and blended my front hairs to give some floof and to fix my attempt at face frames. All the workers were definitely skilled and knew what they were doing, were very nice and was definitely an upgrade from SuperCuts. Reasonable prices and where I will be going for the next few years! TLDR; Booked on the phone to dye my thick dark hair and get it cut, was told that's fine and the booker allotted extra time. Hair stylist told me we wouldn't have time to dye, said if we did my hair would "look like mud", and then cut my "side bangs" too short and didn't give me enough side bangs. Also gave me no layers. Didn't get anything I asked for, wasted $70 and my entire evening. - - I've been to Oomph twice now, and this will also be the second time I've had to visit another salon to fix my hair and get what I actually asked for. I called last week to get an appointment to have my hair professionally dyed dark purple. The earliest they could fit me in was almost a week away, but we scheduled it. On the phone while booking, I had asked for a trim of the uneven/dead ends, layering in my hair, side bangs as mine have grown out, and to have my whole head of hair dyed dark purple. I informed the person on the phone that I have dark brown hair and it would have to be bleached to be dyed. She said no problem, and that she'd book extra time to ensure we'd have enough time to get it done. I was quoted at over $300, which is a lot but I thought that with that kind of money, I would get a quality cut and dye job. I was so excited for this I almost couldn't wait a week. I got to my appointment early to fill out the waiver etc. and go into the building on time for my appointment. I was asked to wait at the counter as my stylist was with another guest. The counter was full of gift bags, so I had to sit on one of the bar stool chairs without anything to rest my arms on. I didn't think much of this. I waited 15 minutes after my appointment time to see my stylist. When she seats me down, she asked what we were doing today. I told her the above, and she left for over 5 minutes to find their book of hair colors. She came back without it but with two boxes of similar colors. I chose my color, then she left for another 5+ minutes to consult their "bright hair coloring specialist". When she comes back, she told me that we likely wouldn't have time to dye my hair today. She tried suggesting dying the bottom half of my head, or other dye jobs that didn't include my whole head. I said no, as this wasn't what I came in for. After a few more minutes of the above, I eventually accepted my hair wouldn't be dyed today and told her we can just do the haircut. The majority of the haircut was quiet, with a bit of small talk. I felt really out of place here as the other hairdressers and their clients were talking up a storm and laughing together. I felt very awkward. My stylist cut my hair. She takes a lot off of the ends, but I'm no stylist so I don't know if that's typical for an ends trim. She then barely layers my hair at all. I didn't realize this until I got home. The shortest layer in my hair is roughly 1-2 inches from the bottom of my hair, and my hair is over a foot long! The most horrendous part of this haircut are the "side bangs" she gave me. They look plain ridiculous. I have a side part, so the majority of the bangs will be on my right side, but I asked for some hair cut on the left so that it doesn't look weird when I put it in a ponytail. Previously (not at this salon, two stylists here have messed up this part of my hair) I have been able to get a thicker side bangs that integrate naturally with my layers. Here, all they did was cut hair closer to my face (a ridiculously small amount) to a shorter length. Imagine: long thick wavy/curly hair without layers with "side bangs" that are evenly cut that only come down to my eyes. When she asks what I think, I ask her to integrate the bangs with the layers more. She spends probably a minute trimming the hair directly next to my "bangs" diagonally and then, without asking again, takes the blanket off and calls it done. I was so disappointed and discouraged and at the verge of tears at this point that I didn't object. I didn't want her to mess my hair up any further so I just paid, tipped, and left. I spent over an hour driving and over $70 to get nothing of what I wanted, and bangs too short I don't know if they can even be corrected elsewhere until they grow out more. It seems some stylists get an image in their head of what they think I'm asking for, or what they think would look good on me, and do that instead of actually listening to what I wanted and asked for. read more

Had my first experience at Oomph Salon and can say without a doubt, it won't be my last! Tamra not only gave me a great cut but was personable and easy going. The entire staff was friendly, full of smiles and, from time to time, belt out lyrics of the 80's music playing! Who doesn't like jamming to Eye of the Tiger when getting a fresh cut?! My entire life I never felt the need to have my own hairdresser, someone I would go back to time and time again.... Then I got my hair cut by Rylee at Oomph. She listened to what I needed and gave me a haircut that was easily styled (even for me!) as well as practical (I work at a tree nursery, so styling is not a daily thing). I cannot be happier with my hair and I am even going back to get highlights put in this weekend. My first haircut went well. I got good attention and a good haircut. $35.00 for a level 1 stylist is a little high for a man's cut. The last and final time that I went there my 45-60 minute appointment lasted 20 minutes including a shampoo. Normally when my hair is cut they do the eyebrows. She never asked and I went home with a mediocre haircut and bushy brows. She seemed to be rushing. The clip joint costs 20 dollars less and gives me more attentive service. Just got my hair cut and dyed by Kim today. I am so so so happy with the result. I came in to Oomph today at the recommendation of a friend who recently got her hair dyed by Karissa (looks gorgeous and she loves it.) My friend's hair was dyed magenta and violet, and I was very impressed by both the meticulous dyeing and the quality of color. I signed up for an appointment with whomever was available, and I ended up having an appointment with Kim, who is an absolute sweetheart. Originally, I wanted to add pastel blue ombre to my already-dyed dark brown hair. At the gentle suggestion of Kim, I decided to opt for a more subtle, longer-lasting cobalt blue which would eventually fade to pastel blue. It took almost four hours, but I walked out of Oomph so happy. My hair is now the most gorgeous blue color - even cuter than I imagined originally. Thank you so much, Kim! I was just passing through Portsmouth and decided to try and get a hair appointment. I came upon Oomph and Shayla was available. I was nervous visiting a salon with no recommendations but I felt immediately comfortable with Shayla. I explained to her that I wanted color a shade lighter than my natural hair color and a hair cut. Shayla did an amazing job, and I am quite picky. My husband can't stop raving about my hair. I am new to the area and was on the hunt back in April to find a new hair stylist. I read several reviews for several different salons and ultimately chose oomph because their vibe on instagram was super inviting. I called to setup an appointment and they scheduled me with Hillary. Let me just tell you, not only does she absolutely slay as a hair magician, but her personality is larger than life. My first visit there was a simple cut + dark color, she killed it and I left super happy. Flash forward to this past week... The environment of the salon is amazing. Boho feeling and bar upstairs with wine. I came here last year before COVID-19 hit to get my first client haircut and I just wanted blonde highlights as a dirty blonde. The stylist stated it would save her more time and foil if we just did a balayage. I didn't know what that was and I don't know why I trust every stylist I go to but I do and ended up leaving with strawberry blonde hair and never went back. I wore my hair up for months and wore a baseball cap to cover it up. I ended up going to another salon months later to just get my roots back to normal. I was mortified to pay $250 for a color I didn't like and didn't want to call and complain. I wish you all the best of luck with future clients. I have gotten my hair cut here for the last 2 years and have had nothing but good experiences. Unfortunately I went for a trim and a blow-out recently with Ally and less than loved my experience. I came out with a style and I cut I specifically did not ask for. She rushed through the cut, didn't finish my hair with any product and never even showed me the back of the cut with a mirror. I expect more from a level 3 stylist. I was so surprised when she said she was finished because it looked awful; I could have styled it better with a straightener at home. Our most recent visit resulted in yet another poor showing in customer service and the butchering of a simple hair style request (more style maintenance than the full deal too).
