I booked my 1st appointment with a stylist that left OOMPH Salon 2 weeks prior, unbeknownst to me. When I arrived, Cassandra greeted me and gave me the option of canceling my curly hair cut appointment. Being a licensed cosmetologist, I was skeptical. I asked Cassandra if she felt comfortable cutting short, S2 wavy/curly hair. I needed it cut badly, as I was leaving town the next morning. Cassandra listened as I explained what I wanted my hair to look like/do. I felt in very capable hands with her. I had not had a previous haircut since October '25. She gave me, probably the best haircut I have had in years. So much so, that I don't feel it necessary to seek out the stylist I originally booked with. A great haircut is one in which I don't have to go home and "tweak" with my own scissors. That is what Cassandra gave me. I will definitely return to Oomph with Cassandra. She is wonderful! read more

This spot is amazing. I love the atmosphere here, very Brooklyn boho and a little quirky. They did a great job on my friend's hair she was delighted. I recently interviewed here for a job and the woman in charge of this company is driven, compassionate, and incredibly talented. If you're seeking a haircut or salon to start displaying your talents - this is the spot! read more

Got a great haircut from Cassandra! I have curly hair and it was my first time getting a short pixie cut and she gave me exactly what I wanted based on the reference photos I showed her and our discussion before and during the cut. She was very down with doing what I wanted to do and it was a very easy process. If you're frustrated by hairdressers refusing to give you the cool new haircut you want, I'd definitely recommend going to her to do it. read more

My hair lights were fine but not nearly worth the $350. I went twice, satisfied with results

This place has gone way downhill. Prices are way higher and quality of stylists and service has declined - by a lot. I was pawned off on another stylist while my regular was out - she had almost no experience and the color /cut wasn't great. Yet i was charged the same as my much more experienced stylist. The owner never seems to be there. The vibe is way off and the stylists aren't attentive to the clients - lots of loud gossip, ignoring customers. Go somewhere else- after maybe 10 years (i was at the original location too) I'm done read more

Came in for a partial foil beautiful atmosphere, I had gone in for a consultation the week prior to my appointment with IDK a level 4 person. She quoted me a price of 120$. two hours later i think she was still putting color on and playing receptionist at the same time super slow. Not sure. The service was impersonal, and the stylist never asked me any questions. finally, after she washed my color out and combed it. I was pulling clumps of burnt hair off my head and putting it on her station. She had not said anything as my hair was in three piles at this point. she asked if id like a cut and let me know she was leaving my hair wet? I let her know that since its all broken off maybe it would be a good idea to clean it up. not sure if she actually cut anything at all its very uneven and the blow dry was horrible and sticky. I am so disappointed at this point i just want to leave this place. Apparently, the lovely new receptionist I had met was out that day. I go to check out and pay she says i owe her $200 more than she quoted because of some pricing system that I was not made aware of. So now not only did she burn the XXXXyz out of my hair and give me the worst service experience ever. its now $320. What a bait and switch. I am so horrified and my hair is so dry and damaged . So THANKS and buyer beware. read more

I grew my hair out for more than six years and with a lot of careful thought and planning decided to cut off more than 14 inches for a donation. Oomph having a good reputation and a high price tag, I put my trust in. I even Sprang for a level 4 stylist, came in with several photos of exactly what I wanted, an a line. I left with a flat bob haircut with no oomph at all. I pointed this out to the stylist while leaving and this was brushed aside. Disappointed, I reached out to the manager several times that week. It being a holiday week it was harder to get back to me. They scheduled me with a level 5 stylist to fix the cut at no charge but unfortunately the damage had been done. My hair has to now grow out AGAIN for me to have the cut that I originally asked for. Two haircuts in and even with a level 5 stylist on the job it is not fixable and I'm left wondering if I should schedule a third haircut with another salon or wait an indeterminate amount of time to get the haircut I clearly asked for. Went in excited for a big hair change that involved careful planning and left disappointed. level 4 Kristin did original cut. This is among the experiences that diminish my trust in hairstylists and reminds me of why I stopped cutting my hair to begin with. Two stars instead of one because the manager is nice and tried to fix the situation. read more

I have always been a low maintenance gal. I used to get a haircut once a year from supercuts and dye my hair using the box stuff. About seven years ago I decided to grow my hair out and didn't even get a trim until the greys in my brunette scalp started to get to me. Long story, yes, but just painting the picture that led me to Oomph and my girl Kristin. I decided on a whim three days before I started a new job back in June to start having my hair cut and dyed professionally. I asked some friends for recommendations and perused Yelp, of course. Oomph was highly recommended and bonus was you could book online. I got a consultation for color and a haircut with Kristin. I've now been back two times and I love my hair! The experience is great and I always come out feeling confident and happy. My hair is shinier, softer and more beautiful than ever and I'll never go anywhere else. If you are looking for a salon in the seacoast area, you won't be disappointed. The service and expertise you'll get at Oomph would be hard to beat. All of the staff seem genuinely happy working there and it's just a really nice atmosphere. I can't wait for my next visit when we're going to play around with some auburn highlights. read more

I've had a great experience with Oomph! I like their transparent pricing and online booking system and the staff are great. Amanda does a great job with my curly hair and does beautiful color! The space is beautiful and spacious and clean. I also enjoy the complementary wine while I get my hair done. I drive 45 minutes from Manchester to get my hair done here and it is well worth it! read more

I just love it here. The vibe is so cool; a lot of attention to detail with the decor. I think the stylists are great, booking is easy, plenty of parking, bars near by to show off your new look, and the owner is very responsive to questions. I only get my hair cut every few months, but this is my go to place. Every once in a while they offer " happy hour" pricing, and that is a total steal! read more

Be sure to check the contract that they have you sign before getting services. If you are late or a no-show then you are going to pay as much as 200.00 penalty. I realize that their time is valuable and no-shows are rude. The information is buried in innocuous paperwork. They would do well to mention the policy as well. Further, if you do violate their TOS the owner sends you a demeaning hate note with unnecessarily cruel personal attacks. I mean really cruel..... There are some very good stylists in this salon, which is breaking its back to brand itself as an exclusive, snooty upscale MaraLargo of the North East. I gave this Salon a 2 because of the stylists. It's overpriced and I'm too busy to deal with a Narcissist. I read more

I went in totally spontaneously and Meghan M welcomed me right in. We decided to do a gloss over my previously balayaged hair and then cut off 4 inches. Just had an awesome curly/shag cut by Cassie. It was a total transformation and big esteem boost! She complimented my natural hair attributes while making suggestions to enhance. I really loved her ease, efficiency and demeanor. And her puppy! I have had my hair cut here several times and they always do right by me. If you sign up for their newsletter, they periodically send out texts alerting you to " happy hour prices". Would say that's a cut above the competition. ;) read more

I am not good at explaining what I want done hair wise and I can be somewhat apathetic at times to my hair overall. Ari was able to understand what I was looking for and give me an amazing haircut. It has made me wonder if it was just a couple years of bad hair cuts that had made me so apathetic. Highly recommend this salon, amazing, friendly and professional service from talented and intuitive stylists. read more

I recently relocated back to the area from many years in California. I absolutely adored my stylist, Vaan, in Newport Beach and feared I'd never find anyone as good or as nice. I was turned on to Oomph by a friend. I needed a cut desperately on a Saturday on short notice. I choose Ariel as she was available and I love the name and rolled the dice. Well, let me tell you, it was a come-out roll of 7! Not only is Ariel absolutely lovely and so friendly that we hit it off immediately but her work is fantastic and I couldn't be happier with her and Oomph! read more

Oomph Salon - Ariel & I - Hair Salons Near Me - Portsmouth, New Hampshire

This was my first experience here. I went in with hair down to my shoulders, and two blurry pictures of a haircut I had back in 2017. I was pretty nervous because I've had long hair my entire life, it's super curly which is harder to work with, and on top of that I don't really know how to communicate what I'm looking for since I know very little about hair. Meghan took a look at the pictures I brought, asked me a few questions about what I was looking for, and absolutely CRUSHED IT!!! I was nervous to get this cut, but I'm super stoked about how it came out. Can't recommend this place enough!!! read more

Update from my last review: I went to Oomph again to get my balayage redone and give it another chance.... And I am so glad I did! Ari was my stylist and she did a fantastic job of blending my old blonde with the new blonde and getting the brassiness out. The experience was also so much better this time! I was downstairs this time and the chairs are very comfy along with it just being a little brighter and livelier down there compared to upstairs. I will admit, I was hesitant to go back but I am so glad I did! read more

I thought I loved Oomph. I met a stylist, got some great cuts from her, and declared myself a fan. And then my kid got a haircut there. Same price as an adult cut and it wasn't a good cut. And then my stylist left and I saw a different stylist. She gave me a cut and a balayage + dye and the cut was fine but not great but the balayage fried my hair and the color was gone within a month. And then I got one more cut there from someone else and was disappointed. Out of 4 stylists, one gave me a cut/color I loved. Now that she's left Oomph, I have as well. read more

After having my hair colored in Manhattan for most of my adult life, moving to southern Maine had me freaked out. That is until I found Oomph and my stylist Maggie. I look like myself again! The salon is clean, decorated with a fun flair and all of the staff are friendly and polite. I recommend booking an appointment with Maggie ASAP! Whether you are looking for something new, or just maintaining what you have, she's got mad skills! Cut or color. She can do it all! She's also fabulous with a blow dryer! Highly recommend! read more

Maggie gave me an awesome haircut and even more awesome blowout. In love with results!

I drive an hour and a half to reach OOMPH from my rural NH home - this was my third visit - and I'll be back again! The salon is hip, filled with good energy, and COVID cautious. I completely trust my stylist Maggie - she's incredibly thoughtful and talented. So many beautiful hairstyles and smiles coming out of that place. I highly recommend it! read more

Super nice! We went in and it was very bohemian rustic but also chic vibes all around. They asked if we wanted any drinks and offered wine and soda and water, can't remember maybe more. I have really really really thick and long hair and the woman totally knew how to deal with it which was refreshing. She was kind and fun to talk to. She did a great job and cut it exactly how I wanted. She thinned my hair and blended my front hairs to give some floof and to fix my attempt at face frames. All the workers were definitely skilled and knew what they were doing, were very nice and was definitely an upgrade from SuperCuts. Reasonable prices and where I will be going for the next few years! I wish I could remember the girls name who cut my hair but I'll catch it next time! read more

TLDR; Booked on the phone to dye my thick dark hair and get it cut, was told that's fine and the booker allotted extra time. Hair stylist told me we wouldn't have time to dye, said if we did my hair would "look like mud", and then cut my "side bangs" too short and didn't give me enough side bangs. Also gave me no layers. Didn't get anything I asked for, wasted $70 and my entire evening. - - I've been to Oomph twice now, and this will also be the second time I've had to visit another salon to fix my hair and get what I actually asked for. I called last week to get an appointment to have my hair professionally dyed dark purple. The earliest they could fit me in was almost a week away, but we scheduled it. On the phone while booking, I had asked for a trim of the uneven/dead ends, layering in my hair, side bangs as mine have grown out, and to have my whole head of hair dyed dark purple. I informed the person on the phone that I have dark brown hair and it would have to be bleached to be dyed. She said no problem, and that she'd book extra time to ensure we'd have enough time to get it done. I was quoted at over $300, which is a lot but I thought that with that kind of money, I would get a quality cut and dye job. I was so excited for this I almost couldn't wait a week. I got to my appointment early to fill out the waiver etc. and go into the building on time for my appointment. I was asked to wait at the counter as my stylist was with another guest. The counter was full of gift bags, so I had to sit on one of the bar stool chairs without anything to rest my arms on. I didn't think much of this. I waited 15 minutes after my appointment time to see my stylist. When she seats me down, she asked what we were doing today. I told her the above, and she left for over 5 minutes to find their book of hair colors. She came back without it but with two boxes of similar colors. I chose my color, then she left for another 5+ minutes to consult their "bright hair coloring specialist". When she comes back, she told me that we likely wouldn't have time to dye my hair today. She tried suggesting dying the bottom half of my head, or other dye jobs that didn't include my whole head. I said no, as this wasn't what I came in for. After a few more minutes of the above, I eventually accepted my hair wouldn't be dyed today and told her we can just do the haircut. The majority of the haircut was quiet, with a bit of small talk. I felt really out of place here as the other hairdressers and their clients were talking up a storm and laughing together. I felt very awkward. My stylist cut my hair. She takes a lot off of the ends, but I'm no stylist so I don't know if that's typical for an ends trim. She then barely layers my hair at all. I didn't realize this until I got home. The shortest layer in my hair is roughly 1-2 inches from the bottom of my hair, and my hair is over a foot long! The most horrendous part of this haircut are the "side bangs" she gave me. They look plain ridiculous. I have a side part, so the majority of the bangs will be on my right side, but I asked for some hair cut on the left so that it doesn't look weird when I put it in a ponytail. Previously (not at this salon, two stylists here have messed up this part of my hair) I have been able to get a thicker side bangs that integrate naturally with my layers. Here, all they did was cut hair closer to my face (a ridiculously small amount) to a shorter length. Imagine: long thick wavy/curly hair without layers with "side bangs" that are evenly cut that only come down to my eyes. When she asks what I think, I ask her to integrate the bangs with the layers more. She spends probably a minute trimming the hair directly next to my "bangs" diagonally and then, without asking again, takes the blanket off and calls it done. I was so disappointed and discouraged and at the verge of tears at this point that I didn't object. I didn't want her to mess my hair up any further so I just paid, tipped, and left. I spent over an hour driving and over $70 to get nothing of what I wanted, and bangs too short I don't know if they can even be corrected elsewhere until they grow out more. It seems some stylists get an image in their head of what they think I'm asking for, or what they think would look good on me, and do that instead of actually listening to what I wanted and asked for. read more

I had gotten my hair done at Oomph...and was highly dissatisfied. Over a year ago I went from dirty blonde to brown and have stayed brown ever since. I wanted to touch up my roots and add baby lights for the summer. When I walked out of there i felt like Cruella De Vil. Friends and family reminded me it looked streaky and skunky. My hair had two giant blonde streaks in the front and one streak up top. Definitely not the summer look I was going for read more

Had my first experience at Oomph Salon and can say without a doubt, it won't be my last! Tamra not only gave me a great cut but was personable and easy going. The entire staff was friendly, full of smiles and, from time to time, belt out lyrics of the 80's music playing! Who doesn't like jamming to Eye of the Tiger when getting a fresh cut?! The location was easy to get to and at 9am, plenty of open spaces to park along with a parking lot across from their front door! The set up is so cool, loved the artwork and overall atmosphere! This salon is so amazing. Not only is it a great experience in the chair where you can relax with coffee, tea and wine, but you also come away with a great hair style. The staff is well educated/highly skilled, well treated, and I love going there. My entire life I never felt the need to have my own hairdresser, someone I would go back to time and time again.... Then I got my hair cut by Rylee at Oomph. She listened to what I needed and gave me a haircut that was easily styled (even for me!) as well as practical (I work at a tree nursery, so styling is not a daily thing). I cannot be happier with my hair and I am even going back to get highlights put in this weekend. Everyone there was very friendly, very knowledgeable about their products and art, and just wonderful people. ***Also, I want to note that while I was there an entire family came in to get their hair cuts. Even the small children (about 4-5ish years old). Everyone was wonderful with the kids and made them feel very welcome as well! read more

Just got my hair cut and dyed by Kim today. I am so so so happy with the result. I came in to Oomph today at the recommendation of a friend who recently got her hair dyed by Karissa (looks gorgeous and she loves it.) My friend's hair was dyed magenta and violet, and I was very impressed by both the meticulous dyeing and the quality of color. I signed up for an appointment with whomever was available, and I ended up having an appointment with Kim, who is an absolute sweetheart. Originally, I wanted to add pastel blue ombre to my already-dyed dark brown hair. At the gentle suggestion of Kim, I decided to opt for a more subtle, longer-lasting cobalt blue which would eventually fade to pastel blue. It took almost four hours, but I walked out of Oomph so happy. My hair is now the most gorgeous blue color - even cuter than I imagined originally. Thank you so much, Kim! I had a great time today. read more

I was just passing through Portsmouth and decided to try and get a hair appointment. I came upon Oomph and Shayla was available. I was nervous visiting a salon with no recommendations but I felt immediately comfortable with Shayla. I explained to her that I wanted color a shade lighter than my natural hair color and a hair cut. Shayla did an amazing job, and I am quite picky. My husband can't stop raving about my hair. She also did a great blow out on my very thick, unruly hair. I would highly recommend this salon and particularly Shayla! She was a cut above the rest ;-) read more

My first haircut went well. I got good attention and a good haircut. $35.00 for a level 1 stylist is a little high for a man's cut. The last and final time that I went there my 45-60 minute appointment lasted 20 minutes including a shampoo. Normally when my hair is cut they do the eyebrows. She never asked and I went home with a mediocre haircut and bushy brows. She seemed to be rushing. The clip joint costs 20 dollars less and gives me more attentive service. The place is gorgeous inside but it doesn't matter if the service is sub par. The person cutting my hair seemed like she was a trainee. Trainees shouldn't cost 35.00 read more

Love this place! The interior is fab and Meghan M and her assistant Cody are wonderful.

I am new to the area and was on the hunt back in April to find a new hair stylist. I read several reviews for several different salons and ultimately chose oomph because their vibe on instagram was super inviting. I called to setup an appointment and they scheduled me with Hillary. Let me just tell you, not only does she absolutely slay as a hair magician, but her personality is larger than life. My first visit there was a simple cut + dark color, she killed it and I left super happy. Flash forward to this past week... Wanted to do something drastically different, Hillary was not only as excited as I was about the vision, she took it to the next level! 6 inches off + layered long bob + copper/red balayage = MISSION ACCOMPLISHED I highly recommend this salon, the owner Tanya is a doll, the stylists are top notch, and the atmosphere is clean, modern, and inviting. ***Ohhhh and the washing sinks are HEAVEN!
