I booked a regular cut and the stylist pressured me into a curly cut ($85 vs $135) despite me saying that I didn't think that would work well for my hair as my hair texture is waves/loose curls. I wouldn't have minded paying more if it was a good cut but the cut is nothing like what I requested and is an uneven mess. My hair is way shorter than I wanted and is so stressful to style. When my initial reaction to the cut was that it was very short, the stylist got upset and said I asked for a short cut (if you look at the inspiration photo you can see how much shorter mine turned out). I pointed out the uneveness and she said it was because of my hair being tighter curls on one side, which I told her wasn't the case. She also told me that I don't need products with hold after I shared that I'm struggling with finding products that give me enough hold, and said how she styled my hair was proof- as is obvious in the picture my hair was completely flat and a mess. I'm not a confrontational person so at that point I just wanted to get out of the salon. The stylist had positive reviews so my only guess is that she wasn't experienced with my hair type. I have since tried styling multiple ways including blowing out my hair and it is obvious how uneven it is; it's so embarrassing that I had to trim some of the most noticeable pieces myself. I work in a school and have had kids saying all day long "why did you cut off all your hair!" and I have to smile and pretend I chose this. I'm pretty easy going about my hair, but this has been so upsetting and stressful.

I introduced my child as a client there too. Everything was great until recently, when I stopped coming as frequently, due to thinning hair. I decided to take care of my own hair more. As a result, over the past few months, it was made clear to me that I was not a valued client anymore - been kept waiting, judgy frowns and widened eyes at my grays, hurrying my appointments etc etc. I finally decided to cut the cord last night after a similar experience, especially as I was looking forward to getting pampered after a long time. Instead, the stylist's eyes widened in disgust as she eyed my grays (not even that bad) and I felt judged and demeaned. The thing is, the UES and NYC has a million salons that can be welcoming, and every person deserves to feel valued. No one needs to stay anywhere as a client if they're not treated well. Shoutout to the hair shampoo/head masseuse extraordinaire Christina! Always professional and smiling, I will miss your head treatments for sure! I will not name my regular stylist as she has done great things with my hair in the past, but she could have done way better with regards to professionalism.
