OnSpeedDating is the best speed dating service i've found in NYC so far. They have really cool events like speed date NY fireman, NY laywers and former NY governors and only run $25.00. The girls are actually attractive, wherein they actually walk upright without dragging their knuckles. The only thing is that it's rather difficult holding a speed dating event in Apt 5-K, and it's a walk-up. So by the time you walk up there, you are sweaty and hot. There are a plethora of speed dating events, "Rescue Me" firefighters singles parties and more. All the hosts are wonderful and friendly. The speed dating events have unique and creative themes such as "Beauty and the Geek," "Asian Persuasion." I always have a good time, even if I don't get matched up. The singles scene can get a little stale and boring. There are only so many hours I can spend on OkCupid, Match or at a bar searching for a mate. Thankfully, I stumbled upon an advert for a "Rescue Me" Firefighters singles party and had one of the best nights of my life! I went with a girlfriend and we had a blast meeting all the single firemen and trying out cheezy, pick-up lines on them. Everyone had a great time and some of the guys even invited us to go out after the party, but alas it was a work night (why can't these events be on Fridays?!?). After that I was hooked. From the speed dating events to the singles parties, I've never had more fun being single. It's hard to judge a person online, so what I like about these events is that you get to meet people face to face. With speed dating I pretty much know in the first three minutes whether there is something there worth exploring. In one night I can check ten men off of my list or circle three men that I would like to get to know more. My one recommendation is to plan on sticking around after the speed dating event. It's usually at a bar so afterwards if there is someone you want to get to know better, you can saddle up to the bar for longer chat. If you've never speed dated before, don't worry. The organizers will walk you through it and they are super nice. The singles parties are huge and great if you are looking for something less formal. It's refreshing to go to a party where you know everyone is single and actually looking. I went with a wingwoman to the parties and I think it takes the pressure off, so we talked to more guys and it wasn't so intimidating. I had the absolute best time speed dating for the 1st time! 15 -3 minute dates in one night. Although the even started 30 minutes late, this was not the organization's fault. They inform you to come in 15 mins. early to register. It was extremely organized and I've also received an email confirmation before the event. You most likely will not meet the love of your life the 1st time. Very lucky if you do. But I did not regret going since I've met a bunch of very interesting people. In my experience, this organization runs exceptionally fun events and attracts a good crowd (smart, pleasant and attractive). I have been to their singles parties and also speed dating events. The themes are creative - sometimes to the point of mischief - which I admire. Tip: Get to the speed dating events early, so you can mix with folks ahead of time. This is helpful as 3 minutes per person during speed-dating is not always adequate (although quite often it is!). Note: Sometimes they advertise "3rd party" events - events run by other singles groups - and these can be a little more hit or miss because they are not within direct control of Amber who runs this group. Amber always advises us as to whether any particular event is run by her group or a third party, and you can decide on that basis. I've been to a few speed dating events and singles mixers with this company and it has always been well organized and fun. Although I haven't found my match yet, going to these events forces me to put myself out there and socialize with different people that I would normally never meet. I've made a few friends, both male and female, whom I still hang out on a regular basis. The dating scene in NYC can be really tough and online dating just doesn't work. Brought this deal cause of a friend. They did have some funny and interesting events for personal interest such as firemen, policemen, certain age groups and ethnic groups. I did the 20 something event which I actually enjoyed and met some interesting and decent looking guys who were ages 25-29. You will have a mix of people from New York, out of state and country working here permanently or temporary and of course you will meet some guys that are a bit weird. The only problem as with any speed dating event is that you have to talk in a short period of time so that gets tiring. If you do find someone you liked, I would suggest talking to them after the event is over as going on the site they give you is not always certain you will get to talk to them again. I met my boyfriend of now almost 4 years at one of these events, it was a 20s speed dating. I wasn't drawn to him immediately, we didn't have a great first date, but because I gave it a second chance, here we are years later! The event was great, the only thing I would say is I wish there was a break halfway through to get another drink (it's a lot of talking!) and mingle for maybe 10 minute break. Mingling before and after was important, I felt. And my now boyfriend caught me on my way out (he had stationed himself talking to another girl by the door and said "you're leaving already?"), and that's the reason we were a "match" in the first place. Amber was SUPER helpful and very friendly, and definitely made up for the initial lack of communication! The day of the event I didn't know what to expect, especially since I went by myself. The people that you meet at the events are high quality - educated with good jobs, interesting, and nice looking. The events are well run and the venues are ones where it's easy to talk to people. I've always made at least one match and dated a few people for a bit although I haven't made a long lasting connection yet. The reason that I'm giving it three stars is because the age ranges for most of the events are way too large. They do have a few 20s or 30s or 40s events but for most of the themed events the age range is 25-45. I think a 10 year age range is fine but 20 is too much. I've mostly stayed to the events with the narrower age range but it's a shame that there aren't more of them. The one time that I did try a larger age range it seemed that almost all the guys were way younger than I was and it wasn't a lot of fun. read more
