I attended the speed dating event for Black & African American Singles. I had a good time. Although it was my second speed dating experience, it was the first one I attended on my own. I walked in feeling a little uncertain, but Daisy's (the host) warm smile immediately put me at ease. She truly made the experience wonderful from beginning to end. Here is the thing, I have gone to a few events that this organization hosts. They do a variety of things catered to singles in New York City. Speed dating, singles mixers, the whole gambit. They cater to various ages and races, and even various boroughs for those who do not feel like going into Manhattan, especially on weekends. The events I have gone to range from a lot of fun to fairly disorganized. It usually varies on who is hosting the event. Most of the time the event starts on time, but there was one time we started an hour late. You can cancel right up to the start of the event and get a credit for a future event, unlike other organizers that charge you a no-show fee or a late cancellation fee. If the event is cancelled on their end, you still get a credit towards a future event. In terms of gender balance, they do their best to balance it out. Some events are more heavy on one gender, others are fairly even. The notable cougar/cub speed dating event, an event that caters to older women and younger men, usually gets more men, usually at a 3 to 1 male to female ratio. About that event, I am now speaking to the guys here. Do not think you are walking into "American Pie", horny women looking for an easy and vulnerable score. It is more like "Sex and The City", career driven women who know what they want and when they want it. As for the other events, I have found the people who attend them are generally polite, attractive, and worth talking to for 3-7 minutes. This goes on for about two hours. Some of the attendees get a little sloppy, but most of them are well put together and are worth seeing again, if they are open to it. You are also welcome to stay afterwards if you like. Except one time where the organizer practically told me to leave after it was done. I dock stars because of this. After the night is over, you get an email on when you get to select your dates. If there is any mutual feeling, contact information is exchanged. Nothing is a guarantee at these events, except having fun. Believe me, I have been there and pulled enough oh-fers that would make baseball managers demote me to Triple-A. The fun time at least, I have had a better batting average. I will continue to go to these things, striking out or not. They are fairly inexpensive and usually enjoyable without all the highfalutincy and bourgeois feeling others put on. It is casual, fun, and mostly easy. Who knows? You might be the lucky one who hits a home run with them. read more

I attended 35-45 advance degree speed dating back in October. It was held at a hotel which had a nice bar. The event was diverse. However, mostly women attended. In the only event I attended, I met my boyfriend. If it wasn't for this event, I don't think I would have connected with him. He isn't someone I would have connected with on an app. However, going to this event, I was able to meet a kind, compassionate, generous, and loving person. My friend suggested we go check out one of their events, and of course, I was down, but it turned out to be such a bust. I highly advise against buying a ticket to anything run by this company. First of all, only three girls and five guys showed up. How is this remotely close to what was marketed? They should've cancelled the event and done more marketing instead of run a half-assed incomplete event. Two guys sat alone for two sessions, which made me so sad for them. Second, you don't even get anything for the $35, not even food or drinks. They even asked me for their pen back. This is idiotic. Pens are good marketing. Do you sense a theme here? Third, because there were such few people, they let the timing go on for an extended time, so much so that it was just awkward. It created such an uncomfortable vibe. Everyone couldn't wait to get out of there. Fourth, the girl running it was unfriendly and didn't seem to be enjoying herself. She kind of set the tone for the event. I don't think she should be doing this. Learn how to market yourselves! They did say that they'd be giving us promo codes for another event, because they could tell this one was a waste, so that sort of redeems it, but I don't know if I'll be doing it again. Only 5 guys showed up, 2 were very rude, 1 lived in Philly and the other in the UK not sure why they were on a nyc dating event. My experience with NY Minute Dating has been very positive. I've been pleasantly surprised with the diversity of people, and number of singles. I have been to three of its events. Of course, not every date is going to be a match, but I'm finding that at least two or three tend to spark real interest. And every date is a learning experience, along with a chance to practice communication skills. I really appreciate the company's mission of helping good people find desired companionship. I've been told that this company's pool of candidates is highly diverse. I second that opinion. Diversity is awesome when it comes to dating, I believe. Broadening horizons and unearthing attraction where we wouldn't otherwise look are pleasant byproducts. I'm finding that educated, successful people are drawn to speed dating. They see the merit and efficiency of the process, and they take initiative (which I really like). I attended one of NYMinuteDating's speed dating events with 30-50 of each sex followed by a singles party at Slate in Flatiron. All in all, the event was worth going to despite some gripes. Read all the way to the bottom for an important note: Speed Dating: A decent amount of good looking ladies, but we were given little time to talk. I was barely able to chat, though the after party gave plenty of time for that. While us guys were shuffling around the room, I felt kinda lost unless there was a host there to guide me to the next set of tables; it seemed a bit disorganized. Singles Party: This was better than the speed dating because there were many more people and it couldn't be disorganized since it was a free for all. I think they did a fine job of setting it up, plus the food that was brought out was very tasty. Important Note: I met a woman there who due to circumstance I was unable to get her contact info. Determined not to let her slip away, I contacted Jen (a host) and she was nice enough to go through the guest list and track down this babe for me and put me in touch with her. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY SCAM!!! STAY AWAY!!!! This is a scam. I have been meaning to report them to the the better business bureau. There are a number of reasons why this is not worth time and money. Reason 1: The dates the night I attended were mostly stand in/actors. I was curious and googled a few folks after. Two people were married (stand ins), one seem to work for the company, 2 were the odd/awkward repeats who were gifted a free pass and 2 admitted the were asked to come and were not even interested. One of these guys said "I was asked to be here so if I get a one night stand out of this I would be happy." What type of service is this. ;/ refund please! Reason 2: I participated with a group of 5 beautiful educated women. Each of us received 1 to 4 matches each. Not one person followed up with us via phone or email. Such a coincidence right ... well we all also sent emails to our "matches" and nothing... it just reeks of shadiness. Just seems odd that not one person followed up. It only confirmed the shady business, actors, and stand ins. Reason 3: The company does not have any integrity. The bartender blew their cover and shared some information about this business following the event. She was sweet nice and did not mean any harm. We started asking more questions and there were red flags everywhere! Short answer= Shady. Also, there are some bad reviews that talk about "Danny" I have previously read and yes Danny was still working for the company and also participating as a speed dater. Reason 4: No refund available and they do not cancel the event if there are not enough participants. If I could I would say ZERO stars. The events are a joke and this company deserves to be investigated. They have really fun events where you can meet people in a very organic manner. The people at the events are really interesting and they are looking to meet someone which is way better than just going to a bar or club. The events are well organized and generally creatively done. The venues are great and the hosts are really cool and invested in your experience. It's a great way to have a good time, a few drinks, while meeting interested singles. There are always new people to meet at each event, so the singles do vary from event to event. I LOVE their boat parties and basically all their big singles parties! The online booking system is pretty seamless and the few times I had scheduling issues the customer service team was very attentive in accommodating my schedule and allowing me the courtesy of coming to a complimentary future event. One time, they literally held up a boat party for me to board - which I felt awful about but was pretty awesome! There have definitely been events where I didn't find anyone I connected with or I felt I'd like to date, but every event had interesting people and I always made the best of it and found a connection for the future. If you go into this thinking that you're going to immediately find your soulmate this isn't for you. But if you're interested in meeting people that aren't just aimlessly staring at an app and are willing to put themselves out there to meet people face to face, I think this layout is an ideal landscape for quality connections. read more

I was so nervous going into this event, and ended up having the best time! A girlfriend was supposed to come with me and cancelled last minute, so I decided to just go by myself and see what happened. The hostess made me feel so comfortable, and I met some other participants at the bar before things got started. Seconds into my first date I realized I had nothing to be nervous about. Even though I didn't meet my future husband, I had a great time and met a decent variety of potentials. It turns out that one of the male "speed daters" from my event WORKS FOR THE COMPANY (he was running the party). How shady is that!?! They must have realized last minute that they had almost twice as many women as men and thought they could get away with filling seats with one of their own. It's tough to rate a speed date because 1/2 is organization and 1/2 is the people you actually meet and neither have much to do with each other. But I've gone to three speed dates with this company and while the people I've met have been interesting and often attractive the two stars stem from the venue that was selected (terrible) and how poorly organized the events have been each time. On the last event myself and another woman guest were told by a bartender at the venue that our event had been cancelled. This was particularly frustrating to hear because I had confirmed with the event organizer only a few minutes prior. After emailing the event organizer frustrated because no one from NY MInute Dating emailed about the cancelled event nor was the host there to inform any of us there the event was cancelled I was told the event wasn't cancelled. No apology was offered and I was told the organizer apparently was running late--severely late, because I don't find it acceptable for an organizer to make it to the event exactly when the event starts. Not sure how the event could have carried on unless everyone decided to come after the event was supposed to start and the other speed dating event that was booked at the same venue ended early. Bought the Groupon before reading the reviews. Bad mistake. No atmosphere. No signage so it was hard to find the hostess- she was sitting just playing on her phone and chatting with her friend. There were only 5 men to 8 women so she made each session longer. This meant you sat longer by yourself when there wasn't a man and she didn't tell us until the end. I had a similar experience as Flynn. I had purchased a Groupon promo for NY Minute, but when registering for an event I was required to provide my credit card information. I was charged the regular $35 registration fee on top of the money I'd already spent puchasing the Groupon promo. I emailed the company and they assured me I would be reimbursed the $35 within three business days. After one week passed, I sent an email again (forget about them providing a phone number!).... only to receive no response. I sent a THIRD email reminding them of the reimbursement and asking to speak with a member of their company. I did just receive an acknowledgement email today saying I'll be reimbursed within 3 business days, but ask me if I believe. This company seems sketchy. Besides the fact that I'm pretty sure I've been scammed, they were also disorganized. The registration materials stated the event would start at 7pm, but the host didn't even show up until 7:30pm. I don't even know what time it was that we started, but it was late. I didn't get out of the event until 11pm. It was also supposed to be for "Single Professionals." I don't know how companies typically 'screen' who is participating, but there were several men who were working retail, were part-time messengers for firms, etc. Not professionals. I enjoyed myself, I think mostly because I made the most of it. But I'd hesitate before I give this company my credit card information again! read more
