Heard some good things about the place so I thought I'd give it a shot. The place was a little hard for us to find, but after walking in the place was pretty packed for a weekday night. We stood around for a bit before someone came and greeted us and we were brought to a very tight table for two. The tables were very close together so you could hear the party's conversation that are sitting next to you, not something I like very much. Our waiter came by quick and had some suggestions, he also brought us over some waters. We ordered a couple wines and beers with our meals as well. The food was OK, not something to remember, but the pizzas were a good size. I also was not find of the fact that the water they have is almost room temperature -- ack! As for the price, it was a little more then what I thought the meal was worth. All-in-all I give this place 2 stars just for our good server and the OK food. My friend and I were in full binge mode when we went in and decided to each get a half and half. It's $1 extra and worth it because it allows you to try out the different options they have to offer. Between the two of us we ordered: Four Cheese, Garden Pie, Mushroom-La Quercia, Prosciutto, and Marghertia. ... Sorry, I had to take a second to wipe the drool from my mouth as I reminisce about the cheesy goodness that is One Speed pizza. Everything was amazing but the one that blew me away was the Garden Pie. I'm still dreaming about it! One pizza is definitely more than enough for two people to share so we had a lot of leftovers. We haven't been here for while. We were seated immediately and our server was quick. We ordered half sausage and half pepperoni pizza, antipasto plate, and pasta special. Antipasta was delicious especially the chicken liver mousse spread. As for pizza, I prefer the sausage pizza over the pepperoni. The sausage has more unique flavor and tastier than the pepperoni mushroom. As for the pasta dish, it was yummy. The sauce has a sweet taste and is different than any pasta that I have tried. So, We've been here 20+ times, it's ok. Not great not bad. Convenient to us. My tribe went there tonight, 6 of us, always 6 of us. We called ahead and they told us they closed in an hour and we were there 10 minutes later. They have us order at a table up front. We're looking at the menu and two of our group go to the bathroom and one of the cooks says to him as they go by him "are you going to "fu&$"ing order or not?! Since you can't trust a pissed off cook with your food before you get it, we cancelled our order and left. The manager asked why we were leaving, we explained and pointed to the cook with the yellow bandana, who said that to us. She said she was sorry and let us leave. I understand that restaurants are having a tough time during Covid. Perhaps One Speed owners are loaded and don't need customers? Never again for our tribe. Stopped in for dinner since traffic was busier than usual due to the rain. Attentive hostess and staff. Christie was great in checking in with us and the timing of our dishes. Hot Lentil Soup was the perfect way to warm me up on a cold rainy day. The soup went great with the Brushetta, topped with smashed squash and sauteed greens. The Skirt Steak on the special menu was amazingly tender, the frites were nice and crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. The bed of carmalized onion and arugula was delicious with the steak. Risotto was warm and satisfying. The apple crisp with vanilla bean ice cream finished off the dinner nicely. A little pricey, but really great food. They don't have gluten-free pizza dough, but they have other options. Their steelhead trout special was delicious. Every component was spot on: the lemon glaze, the crisp but not undercooked tiny garden carrots, the Brussels sprouts, and the Romanesco brocolli. Very tasty and well made. Unfortunately the portions were a bit small. The pizza I hear was good, though I didn't have any. If the trout portions were a bit small, they made up for it in their calzone. My friend's son ordered a calzone and I swear, the calzone was bigger than a human head. Few people finish a whole calzone by themselves the waiter said. Well, my friend's son has done so. OneSpeed should offer a cheesy t-shirt that says "I ate a whole calzone by myself at OneSpeed" to him. It really is an amazing feat. Service was not perfect, but definitely friendly. Now on to dessert. The salted caramel panna cotta was an amazing texture. I can still taste the light and smooth panna cotta weighted with a chunk of gentle chocolate at the bottom and accented with granules of sea salt. What a delight. They only take reservations for 5+ and we had 4...but we just called 30min before arriving and they took our name down so there was only a 5min wait when we got there. Parking was a pain. This place was amazing! Great service, great food and great atmosphere. Three of us came out to One Speed around 7pm on a Wednesday night. They were pretty busy to my surprise, so we had a 15 minute wait for a table. Well worth it, but I know now that they take reservations...which I will make sure to do next time since folks with reservations were seated promptly. We ordered an appetizer of marinated olives and the bruschetta. Perfect amount for the 3 of us. I ordered a mixed green salad with blue cheese and walnuts, which ended up being large enough for me to split among the 3 of us. We ordered 2 pizzas as well to split for the table, the tomato and basil from their regular menu, and a Soppressata and peppers pizza from their daily specials menu. All of this food was fabulous! And left us with about half a pizza for leftovers to take home, which they kindly wrap up for you before you leave. At the end of the evening, we were pleasantly surprised with our final bill. $55 total for our table (before tip). Very reasonable considering the quality of food and service. My hubby insisted that we come here for dinner one night because of all the great reviews he read on Yelp and honestly, I was a bit hesitant considering the fact that I never been to a pizza shop that really wowed me before! We ordered a plate of herbed fries with aioli and a whole pizza with half italian sausage and the other half mushroom. The fries were very good with the aioli dip - something different. I've never had french fries with aioli before but the combination of the two is heaven in your mouth. And the pizza....WOW! This has got to be by far the best italian sausage pizza I've ever had! I normally prefer vegetarian pizza anywhere I go but this place definitely made me step outside my box. The sausages were smokin' with flavor! The marinara was super delish on top of a fairly thin crust, just how I like it. The layout and setting of the restaurant is pleasing. The ambiance can be whatever you make of it - casual if you'd like to hang out with some buddies over pizza and a cold beer; or romantic if you'd like to share a night out with that special someone over a glass of wine. The kitchen is in customer view so you can see your food being cooked right in front of you. It's definitely entertaining to see those guys move fast and quick as they make your pizzas and pop it in the giant brick oven! Parking was hard to find, we had to drive up and down the street searching for parking but ended up parking in the neighborhood behind. All in all, this place has got to be one of my top picks for pizza in Sacramento. We finally finally dined at One Speed. Ever since it's opened it's been super busy. But we finally got up the courage to brave whatever crowds might be and tried it out. Turns out we got seated quickly at our table for 2. The place was already buzzing with families and plenty of tables of 4 and 2. So we felt pretty good at getting a table so quickly. We shared the Apple Hill salad for Fuji apples, endive, bluecheese, walnuts,and balsamic dressing. Delicious!! The dressing was just right and balanced with the apples beautifully. We also shared 500 ml of the house red from Vino Noceto (Amador Co.) to wash down the Parma Prosciutto pizza (prosciutto, Shitake mushrooms, arugula, fontina, and tomato cream). The crust was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside and every bite was wonderful. It was the perfect amount of food. The staff were very attentive and helpful with suggestions. They were in constant motion with a full house. The atmosphere had a comfy, neighborhood feel. It wasn't quiet, but it also wasn't anything like the Red Rabbit! My in-laws love this place for their pizza and service, and after trying their legendary service, pizza and charcuterie board, I think OneSpeed is worth a visit. Must try: charcuterie, carnivore as a pizza Meh: n/a Missed: garden pizza Based on what most people say, you gotta be smart about getting a spot at the restaurant as this is a local favorite, but if you call ahead and put your name down, your wait time will be significantly decreased. While we had less food varieties than I normally get, I think the overall quality was pretty decent. The charcuterie board, aka antipasto plate, was only $15, but came with a very decent amount of food, including multiple cuts, chicken liver mousse and multiple pickled vegetables. My father in law told us the secret of asking calzones as pizzas and I was glad to try out the carnivore pizza. Having been a pseudo-vegetarian, this pizza may have been a bit too much, but the crust was thin and chewy and not completely soaked by the overflowing grease. The meats did offer a variety of mouth feel and the ricotta cheese magically softened the stinging bite of the meaty concoction. After visiting the California International Marathon Expo, we decided to eat an early dinner at OneSpeed before 5:30pm. I'm so glad that we did since this place was crowded by 5:45pm. Service was great! We had many servers help us and answered questions that we had about our dishes. Pizzas were amazing!!!! We ordered three pizzas - Italian Sausage, Napoletana, and Garden Pie. Out of the three, the Garden Pie was the favorite due to the sweetness of the vegetables (winter squash, brussels sprouts, mushroom, kale, ricotta, and sheepsmilk cheese). The wood oven made the pizzas so delicious. We also shared a gnocchi alla bolognese ($14) which was an interesting twist to the typical cream sauce. I thought the flavors were okay. Portion was a small. I tried to eat around the meat, but there were tiny pieces of meat in the sauce. Parking was a bit of a challenge. After driving by this place time and time again, for once we finally decided to stop in and give it a try. It was exactly how I would have imagined it to be! So much character! So much bustle! So much beer! I imagine that a lot of the people who eat there are locals who either walk or ride their bike to the area. It just seemed so relaxed, and the servers knew some of the customers by name. We came in early, around 5:30 and the dinner rush was just in the beginning stages. Kristina was our server and she was so sweet, knowledgeable and patient with us! We had wanted some draft beer, but we couldn't make up our minds. She offered suggestions and gave us a lot of time to decide. Since it was date night, and my hubby and I decided to get a few things to sample. We started with the pear and endive salad, and the heirloom tomato bruschetta. I love how delicate the dishes were, and not overly seasoned or drenched in sauces. The special of the night was a ham and artichoke pizza which was fantastic! (I didn't realize how large it was going to be, we definitely had enough for cold leftovers the next morning.) After thoroughly enjoying our dinner, around 6:30 we informed Kristina that we had a show that we were trying to get to at 7:00 and we didn't want to rush her, but we wanted to get our check and another round. She was so nice and even though it was obvious she had a lot of other tables, she treated us like we were her only ones, and worked to get us out the door a mere 10 minutes later. This kind of service on a busy Friday night is unheard of! I really enjoyed this restaurant. With so many new restaurants claiming to be the next "Farm- Fresh-LaidBackPosh-To Fork- Fusion-Swank " popping up in downtown/midtown, i appreciate how genuine and true One Speed is. This place is just as comparable to all the new restaurants in regards to cuisine, service and style... but it still seems to lay right under the radar. I ordered pizzas both times and appreciated the quality of food. - ambiance is nice for a lunch date or late night dinner. The smell of the fresh fire roasted pizzas make you excited to sit down and eat. Decor is simply and trendy. -for the most part, the staff is pretty well versed on the menu items and recommending items to try. -it is a bit pricey for the pizzas. They range from about $16-18 and the other items follow suit. On my second visit, we ordered a pizza (two flavors which ended up costing an extra $2) and a calzone for about $42. But again the food was tasty so I got over the price of it all pretty quick. Cons: -our waitress the second time was not on her A game. Food in the water cups, slower then average service, and seemed in a hurry. Also when cutting my fiancé calzone (which in my opinion does not need to be cut in 4 because it makes such a mess) she got sauce all over his pants and didn't seem too concerned. -it can get pretty cramped with seating. I have an obsession with Pizza. This place feeds that obsession (no pun intended). I miss the sopresata with pinenut pizza, but dear god, they are inventive, and the last pie special they made had homemade sausage, piquillo peppers, and some other toppings that orchestrated a lovely harmony in my mouth. Their draft beers never fail to disappoint, and often they carry a bitter or a sour for those who want something off the beaten path. Salads are plentiful. My 2 girlfriends and I decided to have dinner (I opted for something else) but I caved and we went here instead. The ambiance is nice, there could be a wait for dinner but we made it just in time. The drink menu is only beer & wine (thumbs down). Fast forward- my friend order the trout and whatever salad, and I got the Mac n cheese with a side of Brussels, and our other friend ordered a pizza. Ok Mac n cheese wasn't blowing me away, the Gruyere cheese made it above average. The Brussels were way better, but a very small portion. My friends trout salad- lol that was laughable. It's a shame I live so far away, else I would camp outside their door.... well, maybe. Whenever I go to One Speed, I make sure to go there starving to ensure that I finish a whole pizza to myself. There's no way that I'm sharing! It's just way to good. I ALWAYS order the Rick's Pizza. Sure I've tried some of their other pizza's, but the Rick's is my go-to. It's a cheese based pizza topped with potatoes, prosciutto, and caramelized onions--all baked in a brick oven. The crust of to die for delicious. Have I got you drooling yet? One word... overrated. My friend and I came here hoping to get some really good pizzas after reading all the reviews. Together we ordered the Herbed Fries, Housemade Potato Gnocchi, Pizza - half Pepperoni & Rick's, and for Devil's Food Cake with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. The herbed fries were soggy and the aioli wasn't that tasteful. The housemade potato gnocchi wasn't so bad. The ham was pretty tasty and the peas tasted fresh. The pizza.. sigh... the waitor said the pepperoni was popular. Well, after taking a few bites, hmmm... I asked myself, "How is this popular???" The pepperoni pizza was greasy. The tomato sauce was kind of bland. I didn't taste much garlic oil.. but the pepperoni was pretty tasteful. For the Rick's slices, it was slightly better than the pepperoni. The bacon was nice and crunchy. Hmmm... what else??? Oh, the crust was thin. As for the dessert, the devil's food cake was not sweet and a little on the dry side. The scoop of vanilla ice cream was very small - not enough to eat with the slice of cake. The overall food experience wasn't that great. I thought the food would taste better but it didn't.. I didn't get a "wow" or "yummy" and I left disappointed. But there are some good things about the place. The people there are very friendly. There are outside seating, but limited. To pair with our pie we ordered the farro salad, which was also good but we were disappointed with the size for $11 and surprised by the size when it came in such a big container. They have a great variety of pizza, pasta and other entrees on their menu as well as weekly specials that are always delicious. I haven't had the chance to check out very many regular menu items because I almost always go for the special pizza of the week and I have never been disappointed! If you decide to go for something off the menu, you can't go wrong with the Rick's Special! They also have an extensive wine and beer list that you can tell has been carefully crafted. It gets super busy around dinner time on the weekends so be prepared to wait. They do accept reservations for parties of 5 or more. If the wait is especially long, they'll take your phone number so you can go across the street to hilltop and grab a drink while you wait. They have a special take out deal on Tuesday where you can get a pizza, salad and bottle of wine for $35. You can see the takeout Tuesday menu on their website. Definitely a great deal! The house wine is delicious and a great price! @$5 a glass. I ordered the Vegetable pizza not realizing that it is a white pizza, oops! Where's the sauce?! So I asked for some, which made it a near perfect pie. Fresh ingredients, thin- NY style crust, with the fire oven taste- the lightly floured dough complimented the acidic and vegetable flavors very nicely. The staff was friendly and attentive.
