A bruised & bloody knee, looking to mom for sympathy. Pricking your finger to become blood brothers/blood sisters. As an adult, we can still become blood brothers/sisters. With a whole lot more people! Sure, we won't get to practice secret handshakes. Or meet in treehouses. But the meaning is more powerful than ever! My girl, I call her my Fav Fab One, we love to give blood. It's the right thing to do. Paying it forward. Plus, you just never know there might come a day when you are on the receiving end of that bag of blood. This month was my birthday. That time of getting high fives, gifts and celebrations. We were visiting the grand opening of a new restaurant in town when we spotted The Big Red Bus sitting in their parking lot. We ran into Michelle inside, who invited us to donate. Without hesitation, we figured we'd eat, then we'd grab a seat, in the bus. If just felt right to give a gift. A gift of blood. We had NO IDEA that giving blood would be SO MUCH FUN! For when we stepped outta the Florida heat and took our seats, we were greeted by the Tag Team of Julio & Nick! These guys should go on tour. Comedy! Action! Even though we were laughing and having a bloody good time, we knew for sure we were in good hands, too. Funny, how you can be totally professional while being absolutely endearing. That's the atmosphere we were in. Oh, us and one other donor, I'll call her Paige. Thankfully, we all were on the same 'page' so NO ONE was offended or upended. Giving blood. Feeling good. Having fun. And even some parting gifts as their way of saying Thanks! It truly was a 'gifted' experience.

I was given a questionnaire to fill out, and then we exchanged the form with a tablet to answer more health questions. My blood pressure was taken, and my iron count was taken. We walked into the donation area, where I sat in a donation chair, and the donation routine began to take my blood. After about 8-10 minutes, I was finished and got up and left the facility. The technician was friendly and was very good at inserting the donation needle into my arm. There was some informal conversation, and it was a very nice experience. I have been here many times before, and I will return when I can donate again. I've been donating blood since 1969 and feel I am giving life to people who need this to survive. Feel Good about yourself and give blood. One Blood has great employees working there.

First time I have ever in Florida…read more I just want to say that everyone should donate blood, you're not only doing something to save a person's life but you get treated like a princess (or prince) when you are doing it. They give you soda and snacks, free t-shirt and whatever else they have free available at the time. I received a free ticket to the strawberry festival. The person who drew my blood was absolutely amazing older woman. We ended up talking about prostitutes in Portland, OR at one point. Great conversation by the way! After giving blood I started to feel light headed and getting a cold sweat, nearly blacked out. (It tends to happen with me because the blood takes FOREVER to get out of me and especially when I haven't donated in awhile, so it probably wont happen to you). Once they noticed it, they were right on top of it with a wet cloth on my forehead and neck. They brought down my chair so I was lying down and held the sprite for me to drink it and got me a rice crispies treat until it went away. This was the best place to give blood I have been to so far! ADORED it. Everyone go donate NOW!

I have been donating at the Tampa location since 2020. Today would've been my day to donate but the…read moreapp indicated this: Your donation eligibility cannot be determined. Please visit your donation center where a staff member can assist you. I figured it was my protein level since that happens approximately every 5-6 months because of long term donation. I figured it was time to give a sample. I inquired at the screening station and was taken to a room and was advised my blood came back positive for HIV. I know that is not correct since I just had blood work done last month with my primary care physician and am HIV negative as of 5-8-26. I attached those results. Now I am deferred for life. I went right from there to get an HIV test at my pcp's office. I am not sexually active so I know I am not positive. If it does come back positive, it would be from the plasma center. I have witnessed several employees not change their gloves in between sticking donors. I even said something to Savannah, the former center director, about employees not changing their gloves. She told me it is not required but she prefers it. She said it is only required if the employee's gloves are visibily soiled. It is possible they don't see the blood on their gloves by not checking closely. My advice is to watch the employees closely and ask them to change their gloves if they don't after sticking other donors. I did ask one of the employees to change his gloves about 3 to 4 months ago. He told me he is not required to but will because I asked him to. I will provide an update on my review when I get the latest results back. If it is positive, then it is from the plasma center.

Two times she tried buying Domin#es Pizza with her Kedpoints. The email code never went to her email. I seen it in person. I watched how she did it. Everything she did was correct. She tried contacting the center and no would help. That's not good. Secondly, their A/C system is messed up. So they brought in portable A/C units. And after having around 40 to 50 donors enter the building waiting around for hours, told them to leave. Some of us have to ride 6 to 8 hours of public buses to get there. Again, 95% of the staff are great (I know most of them pretty well, they are awesome!) but the few staff members that are indecisive was what caused the problems. Everyone makes mistakes but don't make donors pay out of their pockets with all their time, gas money, time off work, public transportation, missing appointments and other engagements they could have been doing. They make a lot of money from plasma. If they can correct these things then I will upgrade to a 5 star! Why? Other than a couple issues they would be a premium place to go and definitely recommend after they fix these issues.

Everyone (mostly) here is so kind and pleasant. I know it's not always super enjoyable taking vitals or being a phlebotomist, but the workers here are so enjoyable and really make the experience much better. Tiffany, Darrell, Olivia, Madison, Jay, Naheeda, Daylin, Kevin, Ryan, Jose, Danielle, Alyssa are all just awesome. And my girl Jessica, it's always a pleasure seeing any of them and getting to chat. They do a really great job here of getting people in and out even if it's slammed busy. Except maybe once in awhile if they're understaffed, the longest I'm there is 90 minutes. I've been to plasma centers where the expectation that it'd take at least 2 hours every time no matter the time of day, and 90 minutes was a quick day. But here, there are plenty of days where I'm in and out in an hour or less (of course, it helps to be hydrated so the actual donation goes faster). Efficiency is something they have down here. I'm super impressed. Not only do you get paid, but you're helping save lives by donating plasma. It's a win-win, and Biolife Lakeland gets an A+.
