I'm sharing only what occurred and how I experienced it, without claiming to know anyone's intentions. For the past 4ish maybe 5 years, I've wanted to have work done by the owner of this shop. To get started, I had to complete a text consultation with someone other than the artist, which was new to me maybe I'm just too old school. The conversation initially seemed to be going well. We discussed my ideas, placement, and sizing, and then I was asked whether I wanted color. Since I'm Black and have limited experience with color tattoos, I explained that I was unsure how certain colors would appear on my skin. Shortly after disclosing that I was Black, I received this response: "Hi! I spoke to [the owner]. Unfortunately, this is not a project she's interested in." There was no explanation, constructive feedback, or attempt to suggest another direction. I even asked whether if they could recommend someone else(thinking someone else at the shop might be interested in the opportunity), but no response after that quote above. Considering the complete project would likely have cost more than $15,000 maybe even around 20, I expected a little more effort and professionalism from the consultation process. I had also been extremely flexible. Aside from a portrait, I was willing to give the artist creative freedom to interpret most of my ideas in her own style, as long as the overall concepts remained intact. That's why the immediate dismissal was confusing. Looking back, I also realized that I couldn't find a single tattoo on a Black client featured on the owner's Instagram. I hadn't thought much of that while I was simply admiring the artwork, but after this interaction, it stood out. I can only speak to what happened during my consultation, and I can't claim to know the owner's intentions. However, the timing and sudden shift in the conversation left me feeling deeply uncomfortable and wondering whether my skin tone influenced the decision. If the artist believed the designs wouldn't work or wouldn't work well on my complexion a professional explanation or an alternative suggestion would have gone a long way. Instead, I walked away feeling dismissed and unwelcome. It's disappointing because I remember the dope artist I originally followed saying in an interview, "I don't care if you want your boyfriend or girlfriend's name tattooed on your face , let's get this money!" Aside from the artwork, that open minded, client-focused attitude was a big part of why I wanted her work in the first place. Unfortunately, that wasn't the energy I received. Instead was left feeling sad and disappointed. At this point, "BeMore... Whatever the Artist Wants to Do" might be a more accurate name of the shop.

With Rob's 79th birthday approaching--my first without him since he turned 30--I was dreading it. Yet somehow, I knew I needed to receive the tattoo on that day. In my dream, Rob's name was written in English, but I wanted his name and my message to remain private--cryptic. Our son suggested Sanskrit for the text because Rob felt honored and privileged to spend several years in Mumbai teaching the Method to drama and film students in Bollywood. Sanskrit! An ancient language of India, considered one of the oldest languages in the world. Perfect! Then I found artist Joon Thomas, an expert in calligraphy from around the world. Using Devanagari script for the Sanskrit, he translated, designed, and penned two tattoos for me--one featuring Rob's name and the other bearing a message. I was overcome with joy when I first saw Joon's exquisite calligraphy! But then came the challenge of finding the perfect tattoo artist to bring it to life. With so many talented artists in Los Angeles, I turned to AI for help finding someone with experience working with non-Latin scripts. It led me to Cacho, whose fine-line precision matched what I was looking for above all else. And then--kismet. Cacho had an opening on Rob's birthday! The moment Cacho welcomed me into his studio, my pre-tattoo anxiety dissolved. I was immediately struck by his warmth and by the genuine appreciation he had for Joon's calligraphy. Collaboration is clearly a priority for Cacho, and his patience is astounding. I asked him repeatedly to adjust the sizes and reposition the images until everything felt exactly right, and he never once made me feel rushed. Having Cacho tattoo my Sanskrit text was a spiritual experience. I was entranced by his steady hand as he brought my words to life on my inner forearms. He captured every nuance of the calligraphy with extraordinarily delicate, precise strokes. I floated out of Cacho's studio. I am mesmerized by these delicate works of art on my arms--timeless expressions of my heart and proclamations of my eternal love for my soulmate. Cacho took something deeply personal and translated it into art that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. He inked it flawlessly, delicately, and indelibly. I could not have entrusted Rob's memory to a more gifted and sensitive artist.

Super friendly non intimidating staff. Very comfortable, professional, and clean/sterile atmosphere (super important for me). The shop location is great with plenty of parking; and I liked the fact that I could see my car from the tattoo table. Mathew was incredibly patient working on my numerous sketch revisions to ensure my family crest tattoo was perfect. He was very accommodating in setting up and scheduling my tattoo work. Mathews work stands on its own as a cut above the rest. Lines are clean and tight. Shading and highlights are super detailed and color choices and ink quality are high level. I had been talking to Matt (aka CLOWNS) for a few weeks about inking my whole calf with the 7 deadly sins in 7 different graffiti styles... after a few days he showed me the artwork and the date was set... We knocked out the outline in about 4hrs and will be finishing on Dec 3rd... Matt's line work is insane and he takes the time to make sure all his line work is on point..
