I first discovered Kings Gap General Store through a Facebook scroll a few weeks back--their post…read moreabout mason jar milkshakes and weekly homemade specials made me stop mid-scroll and mentally file it under must-visit. After spending the afternoon at Kings Gap State Park, fate decided it was time. The store sits directly across from the entrance to Kings Gap Environmental Education Center, and when I pulled in, I knew I'd found the right spot. The sign and weathered exterior scream "this place has been here forever," and walking through the front door felt less like themed décor and more like stepping into a genuine time capsule. No gimmicks--just the real deal. Inside, a handful of customers were scattered about: some chatting at a table up front, others waiting for their orders or poking through shelves of general merchandise, snacks, and deli items. Behind the counter, one man hustled on sandwiches while a woman handled the register, helped with orders, and somehow kept it all afloat. Pro tip: don't stop here if you're on a schedule. With a two-person crew, it's not fast food--it's experience food. I ordered the peanut butter mason jar milkshake ($9), half expecting it to be cash-only (it wasn't--credit cards accepted!). A few minutes later, my "milkshake" arrived so overflowing it had to be served in a bowl. Imagine: thick and creamy peanut butter shake topped with a mountain of whipped cream, Reese's Pieces, a peanut-butter-stuffed Oreo, a Reese's cup, two chocolate Twizzlers, and chocolate sprinkles around the rim. Yes, it was messy. Yes, it was sticky. And yes, it was heaven. I grabbed a shaded picnic table outside to give my treat a fighting chance against the sunshine and devoured every last bite. That milkshake was my dinner--and I wasn't sure I'd even be hungry the next morning. I can't vouch for the rest of the food since the shake was my sole focus, but if you're anywhere near Kings Gap, this place is a must-stop dessert destination. Friendly staff, easy parking, and a little slice of nostalgia wrapped around an outrageous milkshake. Pro tip: follow their Facebook page--specials sell out fast, and pre-orders are the only way to guarantee you don't miss out.

The customer service is always awesome and anytime Boyfriend isn't with me, someone always takes my purchases to my car, which I love! Now, with the COVID 19 pandemic, I've seen a lot of questioning, aka griping, about why beer distributors are considered essential. I'm not even going to pretend to understand why they are, though part of me can't fathom begrudging any independent, small business being allowed to be open with the dark cloud of financial crisis looming over our heads. Anyways, with that being said, I'm going to post of picture of Red Land Beer and Soda exhibiting the heart of being of what I personally consider "essential". Kudos to the owner for embracing the true meaning of community and for being an awesome example of people helping people.
