I love this place for hair and makeup. I went here first just because my best friend of fifteen years was getting married and this was her place for hair and makeup... I wanted to be at the same location. I brought in pictures for both appointments and the ladies were amazing. I did trials as well to get it right... We were able to incorporate the colors and a piece of ribbon in my hair. My makeup and hair held fast the entire day without feeling icky and best of all, I looked great without feeling like I had on a mask. I don't wear makeup on a daily basis and they went easy on me. First off, great ambiance. We knew for sure this will be a great place as soon as we walked in. My hairstylist was Melissa! She was great! Very patient. Gives you all the time. Many hairstylists double book you in their schedule but she doesn't. She gave all the time and focus. Im an Indian (asian) and have dense thick straight hair. I do not find many hairstylists who can do a good job with so much hair. I am very picky about how my hair is cut. But she worked it perfectly. I will never return to this Salon and I will tell you why. I cannot remember the name of the stylist that I visited, hard as I've tried (it was a few months ago), however I came in for a trim and a bang cut. I was sort of pre-screening the place as I've been wanting to get my hair ombre dyed. My trim was fine, but when it came to cutting my bangs my stylist would not listen to my direction. I asked her to take more hair into the bang as I don't like wispy bangs and she would not do it. She even admitted to me that she likes long hair and doesn't like cutting hair short. I re-cut my own bangs when I got home which is pretty ridiculous as I paid $50 for that haircut. However, during the visit the stylist showed me pictures of ombre hair that she had done recently and I thought she did really good work. I informed her that I'd like to make an appointment to have that done with her. When I got to the front to pay, my stylist had not communicated that I would like to book future services which I found strange, most hair dressers are excited to get more business and make sure you book your next appointment. I made the appointment anyways, and called a few days later to get her rate, as I had forgotten to ask. Understandably, the woman told me that she would have to check as stylists have different rates and that she would have her call me. I never received a call, so I cancelled my appointment only days before. Seems to me my business wasn't even wanted. read more

I've been with One Salon since they were at their old location in Town Center in Novi. I have been a loyal client of Dave Dewitt since then, and wouldn't go anywhere else. I've been going to One Salon for a little over a year now. I was super bummed when my previous hairstylist had moved out over the area and I didn't know where to go to. I'm not an overall picky person, but I do expect to get what I pay for when it comes to my hair. (There's a reason I don't go to SuperCuts). A friend of mine directed me to One Salon, and I couldn't be happier that she did. I see Ali S. and she is great! It seems like there is a great training program (whenever I am there, I see a senior stylist mentoring a student), which shows me that they care about the quality of work their stylists do. My highlights are always well blended and my cut is precise. I also love that you are able to make reservations online through their website, which helps cut down the wait time on the phone. My cut/style from Jackie looked fabulous (shes also personable- don't kid yourselves stylists- this counts). She listened and also wasn't cheap using products. Most stylists I've been to don't want to give you much mousse or hair spray b/c it will eat into their profits. And, my hair style falls out by dinner. Not Jackie. My hair looked great by dinner and prob the best style Ive had in a long while b/c she knows how to make the most of what you have (that's an art). As a result, I also bought the product (it smelled so good). Ambience: its a HUGE salon with jewelry, products and even light sweaters to choose from! Really upset about my hair being damaged by Japanese straightener last summer. This was my third time there for straightening, (once per year) and I was happy with the results in the past. But I smelled burning hair that night, and for weeks afterwards. Fortunately I didn't lose much hair. The texture was definitely strange throughout the whole head...mushy-feeling after washing and crusty after drying. The woman at a different salon who colors my hair was horrified. She refused to cut my hair and wanted me to go back to One Salon for the stylist to cut it. I did. The stylist did give a nice cut and claimed to be totally flummoxed as to what happened. She promised numerous times to get back to me after calling calling the Yuko company, to find out what may have gone wrong. She insisted that she never treated the ends, which were especially damaged. I wanted to know how to best treat the damaged hair. Weeks went by and she NEVER CALLED ME BACK (never a good sign) so I contacted Craig. He had her call me. She then insisted that she did nothing wrong and that I must have damaged my hair by using excessive heat. I DON'T! I am very careful! If my hair was damaged, why didn't either of the stylists I use, notice it before doing the procedure? My color-stylist was really angry, especially after hearing of how much I paid for a damaged head of hair ($400 plus generous tip). She had seen me two weeks before for color, and reassured me that my hair had been in good condition. You have to wait two weeks after color before straightening. So here I am, one year later with no idea what to do with my hair except for the suggestion from the stylist I TRUST to not use chemical straightening this year. It's not all grown out yet. I am hoping that she can help me with styling for an important family wedding coming up. Most of all, very disappointed about loss of trust in this person, who I had thought very highly of. Trust is very important, especially when having a chemical treatment done, and I'm especially upset about that. She blamed the problem on me! I had high hopes for this salon! Usually after a new color, highlight & hair cut I feel awesome and extra confident. After $240 for two professionals , that made me wait 25 minutes for an appointment that was early morning and never apologized for the delay ( didn't have a previous client) this wasn't the case. My color looked very yellow ESP in pictures and the cut resembled a 'Carol Brady' do that didn't grow out nicely. This salon also did my daughter's partial updo for her dance.... $75 later it was half assed and terriibly done. Thankfully, my daughter didn't see my disappointment. Maybe the key to this salon's popularity is to go after 4 pm? I have it one star cuz they ladies could make conversation. read more

This Yuko is not as beneficial as a hair stylist might make it out to be. If you are considering Yuko, DO NOT do it... Or maybe just don't do it at this salon. I had such thick, gorgeous hair- curly and all- prior to following through with a Yuko. My hair is SO thin now, that even when I flat-iron my whole head, you can tell where all my healthy hair is. I've spent the better part of the year researching this, and the only possible way this could have happened, is from how the solution was applied. It was applied entirely too close to my scalp, and there's no telling HOW much hair came out in that bowl... On second thought, sure there is: the bottom of my hair is approximately 1/4 the thickness of the rest of my hair. I've been doing my hair since I was 15, so even if I WANTED to be nice and blame this on myself (which, I really still can for even CONSIDERING altering my gorgeous and unruly kinks), it cannot be anything else. Prior to the Yuko, I have never-- NEVER had ANY chemical treatment done to my hair: no dyes, no lyes, NOTHING. In fact, I take such good care of my hair (product/heat wise), that no one even REALIZED I had gotten the Yuko, until a month later when getting out the pool, and NOT being led by my giant, curly fro. Well; THAT was short lived. I'm SO embarrassed that I went through with it. I just want to cry. It's my own fault for not speaking up when I KNEW I was feeling it too close to my scalp, but because the stylist insisted she'd been doing it for years, I didn't want to "offend" her. Even after taking my original concerns to her about my hair feeling thin after the FIRST treatment, I was told "your natural hair is just such a different texture from the Yuko hair, it just FEELS thinner." BULL-- BULL because DESPITE what minds may "think" about afro hair, our hair is awesomely silky after being flat ironed without any relaxers. But the whole point of the Yuko was to cut down on the time it takes to do my hair, especially because I do not, nor have I EVER worn a sew in, a wig, extensions, or whatever else you want to call it- I actually DO my hair, and it takes time. I went from bra-strap length hair, to having to consider above shoulder length, all because the stylist led me to believe that Yuko would be IDEAL, before slathering it onto my head. Not that it's her fault-- it's no more her fault, than it is when a tire salesman brags on Pirellis, sell them to you, and two burst on the road, causing a collision to your most prized possession... Your new Mercedes. Yeah-- my hair is my Mercedes... Or it WAS. This is a funky little salon, with a clear clientele, so women of color, if you are considering Yuko, STOP, and RE consider. read more

Over priced. Went here to get some highlights. I have long wavy/curly hair, so I know it's not the easiest to work with, I am prepared to pay a bit more than girls with shorter hair, but this place took me to the cleaners. Had a great talk with my stylist, thought we were on the same page about color... I only had a partial highlight, this was the absolute least amount of foils I have ever had in my hair. To me, not even a true partial, more like just the top of my head... She did the least amount of work than any salon I have ever been to. Don't get me wrong the color was beautiful, but it wasn't what I wanted. It was way too dark. After paying $130 for my hair and a a few washes at home, it was still too dark. I called the salon and told the receptionist about wanting to come and get a few more highlights thrown in, nothing major, just to lighten it up a bit. Made it very clear that the stylist did a great job, just not the what I wanted. He said he would have the stylist call me back and see what we could do. Few hours later I get a voicemail from the same receptionist, saying that the stylist was too busy so I'm welcome to go to someone else but I would have to pay for another session! Are you kidding me??? I just paid $130 not including tip and you can't do me a favor and throw in a few highlights? I am not cheap, I've been to many high end salons in both NY and Chicago. For what I paid, the lack of highlights and then not working with me to get it right... No customer service, I will not be going back. read more

OKAY so I don't prioritize my hair as much as I would like to. My hair was looking baaaaad and I had been searching for a new stylist for way longer than I'll ever admit. I paid a visit to One Salon based on a referral from a friend. I conveniently scheduled on line with Stacey Cline who is AMAZING. This girl knows how to cut, color and style hair! She even spent time dry cutting it afterwards to make sure it looked good both wet and dry! This is the first time in a VERY long time that I feel more than just "ok" about my hair -- I REALLY love it! The salon has a great vibe to it and it is apparent that the stylists take pride in their work. They also have complimentary coffee, tea and wine (which is a huge plus)! The best part? I didn't feel like I was breaking bank for a FAB cut. It was definitely reasonable and the quality for the cost is unbeatable. They also give you and your referral $20 when your recommend their salon! Highly highly highly recommend this place!!! read more

This is the best salon out there. I see Kara Brown and she is an incredible colorist and understands the science of your hair. She is one of the top stylists and colorists there and she keeps my hair healthy and gorgeous. Her sister Julie Fox is also fantastic. The salon itself has great services and is always adding new services, merchandise, etc. They even have a little boutique with lots of Detroit gear and items from local artists. Jeanine C is amazing! My hair was a mess and now it's full & healthy. I had never had such a thorough consultation before. She spent a lot of time finding what I liked about my hair & what I wanted to change. She gave my a great cut and showed me exactly what to do at home to duplicate the style I left the Salon with. I am allergic to the ppd in hair dyes. I get horrible redness, itching & even blisters. Most salons had no clue what ppd even was. I thought my hair dye days were over. I found Jeanine through Salon One's very detailed website and I'm SO glad I did! She hooked me up with a ppd free dye. No more grey and a beautiful brunette color! I've been to many stylists. Jeanine is the first Hair Designer I've ever been to. Believe me, there's a HUGE difference. I can't recommend her enough. You will not be disappointed! read more

I had a cut and color on 9/14 and my hair looks worse for the wear after than it did before. I showed the stylist ideas/pictures of what I wanted and mentioned maybe wanting to try balayage in the future. All I wanted was a sold dark chocolatey brown color nothing extravagant. She said she had an idea of what I wanted and ran off to the back to mix it up. Midway through coloring my hair she asked me how frequently I waded my hair..I asked does it really matter and she proceeded to tell me she used demi permanent hair color that will wash out in 30 shampoos..mind you this short term hair color cost me $85 alone. She did not tell me before covering my head in color that she'd be using demi permanent and I also never mentioned anything about wanting it either. I have never had a stylist just decided what type of color to use without first making me aware of it. It's honestly barely looks like it was colored. I let her cut roughly 6 inches off my hair witch was fine and add in a couple layers. I did it to cut the dead ends off so my hair would feel nicer. Wrong, it feels awful and has never looked worse. It's a frizzy, rough, knotty mess that wasn't like that before services were rendered. When she cut my hair dry to add texture it's like she ripped my strands of hair in half. The hair cut was another $85. I have never ever been more dissatisfied with my hair ever. I've only washed my hair 3 times since my appointment to try and prolong the color somewhat (because who wants to pay $85 every month if you were to wash you hair daily). I had some very grown out highlights near the ends of my hair and they are already starting to peak though. So for the grand total of $170 without tip I basically paid to have my hair ruined. Expect in 30 shampoos it won't even look like I paid a hearty price to even have it colored a blah brown. Now I have to wait for it to grow out or find a remedy for the nasty, course, and frizzy hair. So over all it was a pretty crappy experience. I would not recommend. This would be the 3rd stylist I have tried at this salon. I purposely picked this one after reviewing the pictures of previous work on the salons website and social media page. Wished I had spent my money and time elsewhere. Apparently the stylist used dull shears which would account for the ripping feeling of my hair, extreme amount of new frizz, and gross feeling ends. She also applied the demi permanent hair color to wet hair further diluting it. She never placed me under heat for any length of time to help the color process. I regret ever coming here and wished I had gotten my money back right away to go have it redone at another salon. It's not like anyone who's unsatisfied with the salon would want the same stylist or any stylist for that matter from the same salon to have another go at it to try and correct it. read more

We just moved here over the summer and I was looking for a salon that could refresh my daughter's fashion color. We made an appointment and loved the ambiance but the color lasted less than 2 weeks. I called to see if they could reach out to our former salon to see how they make it last 8 weeks. I didn't ask them to redo just to help us figure out a way to make it last. I've been going here for a few years. I've done highlights, ombre, gone purple and many different cuts. I've been to four different stylists. For the most part, I've been pretty happy, nothing too bad that would keep me from returning. Most recently, I wanted teal. I went in on a whim after work, and now I'm wishing that I would have just called to set up an appointment with my usual stylist. After I went in for the stylist to correct my hair two days after she originally did it, I still am unhappy with my hair. I wanted to go to a professional because I ASSUMED they know what they're doing. I guess I was wrong this time. Green at the roots, brown in the middle, and teal at the bottom. Ugly. I went to Sally's Beauty Supply today and dyed it myself. It's still not what I wanted, but at least it's all one color. I will not be returning for a while. Or maybe even at all. Spending that much money for iffy results, I'd rather take my chances somewhere that's cheaper. I referred a coworker of mine to get her hair done here. The first time, it looked incredible. I just saw her today, and she got her hair done again. She wanted an a-symmetrical cut this time, but it doesn't look intentional, it just looks like a bad cut. I have been a client at One Salon since the very beginning. This place is the best! The positive experience starts right when you walk in the door. First of all, the salon is HUGE. There are so many other salons where the stylists are right on top of each other, not at One Salon. Since the space is not crowded you don't have to hear the person who is getting their hair done next to you drone on about their issues and you can have a private conversation with your stylist. The welcoming front desk staff always makes sure that I'm comfortable while I wait for my stylist. I think they might be booking geniuses because I never have to wait more than 5 minutes, and I always go at the end of the day after work! (I can't stand salons where you have to wait and wait because they are behind) I get my hair done by the owner, Janine. I truly can't say enough great things about her! She is the only hairdresser that LISTENS to me and then does what I want to my hair. Seems like an easy concept...but many stylists that I went to in the past would end up just doing what they wanted. (There is nothing worse that a trim happy stylist when you have long hair, and want to keep it that way.) Now, I should say that I often end up asking Janine for recommendations on what she thinks would look great since I know that the whole salon is constantly in training learning the newest techniques, trends etc. I should also add that even though Janine is the owner she doesn't have a harem of assistants that actually end up doing your hair, as has happened to me in the past. Yes, she has a great assistant, but Janine does my color and my cut, no one else. I have gone to other One stylists too, when I have forgotten to make an appointment and needed to be squeezed in, and have been very happy with the results. If you are going to another salon in the area, you are missing out. I drive all the way from Royal Oak (and it's hundreds of salon choices, most of which I have tried) to Novi to get my hair done because it's the best salon in the area, hands down. read more

I am very particular about my hair. I have fine hair, but A LOT of it and it's also naturally curly, and I get several colors put in, so I am pretty picky about who I choose for a stylist. She has been at the salon for several years and had great recommendations for me and what I need to get done to my hair to have that extra "oomph" I had been looking for. Hadn't had my hair cut in about 3 years, after having my son 19 months ago I figured I was ready for a change, I went in with 2 pics of 2 different cuts both tremendously shorter than what was my current hair length. 1 was a short inverted bob the other a slightly longer bob with side swept bangs. Erica was my stylist, she did a great consultation with me, we decided the longer bob with side bangs would be better, so it wasn't such a shocking dramatic change for me. If I wanted the inverted bob I could always come back. She was very friendly, didn't have a snarky attitude (like most stylists in the area) And did give a good scalp massage with my shampoo. I visited One Salon for a toner and blow-dry. Overall, I had a positive experience here. The salon is huge, modern, and clean. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and hospitable. I did not have to wait a long time for my stylist (10 minutes, tops). I thought my stylist was super friendly. I thought the washing station sinks were weirdly uncomfortable, and that my toner completely covered my highlights to make them brown (which is not what I wanted but I don't really mind it) which is why I am giving a 4 out of 5. The price was very reasonable, and my blowout lasted nicely. All in all I would try this salon again. read more

I've been going to One Salon for about a good three or four years now. I love this place! Emily is the best stylist! Within the past year I've been getting full color and highlights. The color they have here rocks! I easily get three or more compliments a day on my hair because of this place. The receptionists are friendly and the decor is hip, happening, and now. The best advice I can give to someone who has never been here is to find a stylist that you like and stick with them! It's usually particularly difficult to get people to cut my hair the way I would like, because it's so curly and thick. So I will definitely be going back to Amanda for my next cut.
