I got hair services done twice within the last 3 days - 1) shampoo +blow dry +shine and 2) Japanese head spa. Both the times they miscommunicated the price and at the time of service tried to over-charge. The first time they agreed that it was their problem and after 30 min of wait resolved it. Today (Nov 24, 2025), they tried to charge me $160 when their receptionist quoted price was $150. In addition, they had a $20 off going on for the week of Thanksgiving, which they conveniently did not communicate. I happened to notice the flier and asked that to be extended and they seemed surprised about it. So, with the originally quoted price and the discount, my price for the head spa should have been $140 but they refused to amend their mistake and still overcharged me. The manager did not care to hear, let alone, fix the issue - in fact, she displayed complete and utter nonchalance and when I indicated that I won't be back due to being lied to twice, she simply said, "that's fine." I have been an Ashka customer since we moved to Michigan. I have got my hair done by several of the stylists and I always leave with my hair looking fabulous. Amazing job preparing the salon to maintain social distancing! Though I was being hesitant about being out, the salon put my concerns to rest by being very cautious and following all regulations while I was there. The scheduling of appointment was extremely easy. They made their safety protocols extremely clear prior to my arrival. This was my first experience with Jessica and she did an amazing job on my hair. She is super professional, kind and has the right mixture of chit chat and quiet time. She carefully applied COVID precautions during the visit and was sensitive to my personal concerns. I felt completely comfortable during the entire visit and left with a great haircut and highlights. I appreciate the time and quality put into it. The salon was clean and they prioritize cleanliness. The price is a little steep, but I feel like you get the attention and expertise you would expect for that amount. Appointment is recommended. I've always passed by at this salon many times and tried a few salon in Canton. It was my first time here. Well this place is now the best one I've had when it comes to my hair appointment. Why am I saying this? Let me point it out. Receptionist: I called and talked to the front person, I think McKenzie (sorry I'm not sure with her name) who answered all my questions. So I ended up setting an appointment for 9:30 am the next day. Hairstylist: Such a fantastic service. It started with a unique way of welcoming her client. And was with me keeping me entertained for the entire 3 1/2 hours. Mind you its my firs time here. This is the kind of thing they do that I did not experience elsewhere. Started by walking me in to her cell and offered me coffee or water. Then followed by a friendly discussion understanding my expected outcome. Fortunately I was ready and showed her the photo of the style and color I wanted. Showing that picture saved a thousand words. I don' need to describe it anymore especially when she said "I got it." One thing I am impressed with, is the focus and attention given to me. Two weeks before my freshman year of high school I came in for my first haircut, EVER. It was during the scene revolution too. I have been getting my haircut at Ashka for a few years, last time I went I got a keratin treatment with the haircut. Not only was she done in 30 min but my haircut took only 2 minutes. Not one person who looked at my hair could even tell that I had had a haircut and my hair was just as frizzy as before. Soo disappointing being Aveda salon. I went for quick hair wash and blow dry before my trip. Went with junior stylist(don't remember her name) . The hair was wet and she wanted to put hair spray and send me back. Never took my feedback seriously while doing the hair and did what she wanted . My hair ended up looking damp towards the end and I paid for it. I specifically told her not to start curling from the top and she did it arguing with me. I mean who finished hair blow dry and hair remains wet. I have gotten my hair done in many places and some of them in aveda too and this is my Worst experience. Do yourself a favor and don't go here . Icing on the cake : the lady at reception says " it's not that wet" when I gave her my feedback and asked her to touch and see. I'm in town visiting and wanted to have my extensions taken out. I called a couple places and they told me they could not take them out because I didn't have them put in there. Well...they were put in 1700 miles away, so I had to find someone that could help me! Ashka was friendly on the phone and understood that going back to my normal salon wasn't an option. The hair stylist was super friendly and nice, even though taking out my extensions was a lot of work. I guess the type I had required a different kind of tool than what they normally use. At one point, there were three stylists working on my hair. My hair stylist had her assistant helping the whole time and at one point, another stylist that was free, offered to help. It's been pretty good but my last time there, which was a couple weeks ago, is still leaving me with a sour taste about the place. I asked for french nails, and the girl said she couldn't do it lol. They don't use a drill so when she was filing my nails it was hurting. They charged an extra $15 for gel removal without telling me. When I scheduled the appointment, they told me it would be $42 for shellac then when I got to the checkout I used my $10 coupon and it was still a whopping $67, we argued with them and got them to agree to the discount because of the miscommunication. THEN IT CHIPPED THE NEXT DAY. I was out of town so I couldn't go in to get them redone, they didn't offer any sort of discount or coupon or anything. The availability is fantastic. I've had many services done here, including cut, manicures, and pedicures. My three-year-old son has found a stylist also who is great with children, Jessie. They are similarly priced to other salons in the Canton in Ann Arbor area. The pedicures that are offered here are unique from any other I've had before. Rather than soaking your foot in a mini Jacuzzi tub a series of towels are wrapped on your feet which are then wrapped in a bag to keep in the heat. It's different but not objectionable. As a former owner of a salon/spa I was highly satisfied with my service. I received a lovely pedicure from Kym and my goodness do my feet feel great still! She was highly professional, thorough, and gentle. Front desk staff was very friendly (I used to work in upscale salons where the front staff was snooty). I loved how the pedicure chairs were set up. They weren't traditional chairs with foot baths. They were reclined chairs with feet already up and everything was done with hot towels and was far more sanitary this way. Now here's the best part....my polish didn't smudge. I manage to always smudge my polish but the CND brand they use for polish dries within 10 min completely. I have had 2 pedicures done here. 1st was a Groupon, 2nd a gift card. Neither were very good. They don't have a dedicated manicurist. The new hairdressers take nail appointments, if they aren't busy. So these are very beginning stylists who don't even want to do nails! They only do them until they build a hair clientele. This was told to me directly from the salon. Very, very disappointed. A miracle allowed me to get out of work early and I immediately decided that now I have a few moments to myself and would love to do something nice. I grabbed my phone to see if there were any groupons going- most importantly to find out where I could go for a great manicure and pedicure. I stopped by one place on the way home but I continued on, remembering there was a place at Cherry Hill and Canton Center. After moving, I knew I needed to find another staple place for pampering. Ashka. Upon walking in the ambience was superb. The reception lady was cheerful and sweet, I explained that I wanted to do a walk-in, if they allowed. She just smiled and said she would look. She was super happy when she told me it was only a 10 minute wait before I could have both a manicure AND a pedicure.... Not bad for a salon/spa. She gave me a cup of passion tea which was appreciated and needed after the weeks of stress. I sipped away and got a refill before being called in. I was taken to a back room where there were 5 relaxing chairs with soakers and 4 manicure stations. The décor was very tasteful. I sat back for my pedicure, the water was warm and the girl was nice although not talkative. I sat backed, played words with friends and enjoyed. I ended up picking a fun, summery pink color- which looked terrible after the first nail.... I asked if I could change it and the lady told me that I already picked it out. Wow. It was only one nail.... She did a sugar scrub, mask, and then a lotion before putting on my polish... we then moved to the manicure station. It seemed rushed, my nails barely covered with the nail polish (the polish is covering maybe 80-90% of my nail) and my cuticles were not touched. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it after the first coat and the lady ran away after she was done- stating "yeah, it should dry in about 5-10 minutes but don't bump them within the next thirty." Ok, standard stuff. When she left, I looked down just mortified at how terrible my nails looked. I didn't have torn and hanging cuticles prior to the manicure but now I have them on half of my nails! I waited about 10-15 minutes for her to come back so I could tell her that they looked bad and if they could be fixed. She never came. When I walked out to pay, the girl told me it would be $85 for a mani/pedi.... And I tipped the lady $15 and everything looked TERRIBLE! To make matters worse, when I walked in the house immediately after my husband asked me why I would bother painting my toes without fixing my feet. When I took a closer look, it appeared as though she barely rubbed the bottom of my feet!!!! There was dry skin EVERYWHERE. Although it was awhile since my last pedicure.... My feet were not THAT bad. The last topper was walking into work today and a co-worker looked at my nails and said "that is an interesting color for you but next time try not to paint them when you are drunk." And that exactly explains the service that I was given at Ashka. Unreal. Worst $100 I have ever spent..... Key phrase- I spent $100 for a mani/pedi that someone told me I looked drunk when I did it.... Embarrassing. Even though I rated the place a 1, the reception lady was a 5 (or 6 if we could), ambience was great but I cannot give a place any more than a single star for the lack of service and complete disregard for so much money!!! And now I know, Ashka is NOT the staple pamper joint for me! Little update.... Less than one day after both my toe nail polish and finger nail polish is already coming off.... That's just ridiculous for a girl who site at a desk and works on a computer all day! I think wet n wild polish would last longer! I am a member of Aveda's Pure Privilege program where you earn points on Aveda products and can cash them in for rewards. I finally accumulated enough points for a $75 gift certificate. Aveda makes you select a salon where you want to use your certificate at and it issues you the certificate payable to that salon. So, I chose Ashka. I had been to the old location for hair services and liked it. Once I received my certificate, I made an appointment for a mani/pedi and wax. The spa area was very nicely decorated and relaxing. However, my services were sub-par. I wasn't very impressed with the nail tech or the polish selections. The wax was actually good - not painful at all. But, the worst part for me was when I went to pay. I gave the cashier my certificate and she said we don't take these anymore. I was shocked. I asked why and she said they don't participate in pure privilege anymore. I asked why was I able to select this salon then for the certificate. I was not very happy with the response I got and the poor customer service. I was very upset I was never notified ahead of time. I even told one of the girls that was the reason I was there - to use my Aveda points!! Needless to say this could have been an embarrassing situation if I didn't have backup cash. After I left, I contacted Aveda. Luckily they are crediting my account for the $75 certificate. Because of the poor customer service and sub-par mani/pedi I don't ever plan on going back. read more
