I had a non-indian makeup artist for my sangeet (because Gayatri was not available :( ) and it was not as good at ALL and they had no idea what they were doing wrong. No idea how she did such amazing makeup -- our wedding was on a HOT day in August. I felt like I had sweated off all my makeup by noon and it literally still looked matte and was perfect for pictures all day until I wanted to take it off and switch to my reception look. She really is an artist and can tell what will look good on you and will make sure you pick a look that is good for your face. Everyone loved my makeup and she does the soft glam look SO well. She really knows what will look great and what products your skin needs to make the look work. Also she doesn't take forever to do the makeup - I felt like the other artist I had took like 45 minutes just to put my foundation on, which seemed unnecessary. She really knows what she's doing and uses high quality products. She was also accommodating on the wedding day with our timings and made sure I got to take a shower between the wedding and reception (both on a hot day in August). She was able to start on the people getting makeup done super early in the morning (like, 430 am) and everyone was very happy with their makeup. We also would have been lost for the draping of bridesmaids saris without her since our draping person wasn't able to come at the last minute but she had her assistant do it and the saris were perfection - my friends couldn't believe how good the pleats were. I was also nervous about my hair since I didn't want a big up-do and her assistant did a fabulous job with making both the wedding and reception hair perfect. I was at the Cadillac dealership across the street waiting for my new car. We all know how tedious and extensive the time process is when leasing a new car. Frustrated and completely bored out of my mind, I asked my super attentive salesman Tom where I could kill some time. Being that the area of Novi is not much of a walking city all he could refer me to was the Dairy Queen across the street. Being lactose Dairy Queen did not sound very smart. I wondered my way over anyways being that I saw the Dairy Queen in a beautiful plaza. At the very least he said there was a Gazebo I could sit and sunbathe in (it was an unusual beautiful April sunny day). I did not even pass the DQ because right before DQ was the Gazebo and before the Gazebo was Salon Freda. I literally had no business being there being that I JUST showered and blew my own hair out. Here's the deal.. no one touches my hair but me or my aunt who has been doing hair for 40 years. She unfortunately retired this year and although I have been going to her house for my blow outs for special occasions I feel terrible having to harass my aunt who is trying to retire. I was by no means looking for a salon, it just did not cross my mind. But I think it was meant to be. I walked in and was immediately welcomed by a super welcoming front desk girl. She offered me a drink as if I was already VIP (she knew!). Anyways, long story short... Kara took me under her wing and within 30 minutes my hair was doing all these bouncy movements like I was a CoverGirl! Thank you! Thank you Tom from Cadillac for showing me this new fabulous salon. My blowout was $36 but I would have paid more. It is worth every penny. I was also impressed that they used Kerastase on my hair! Kara recommended some Nutritive brand for my hair. I guess it is smart to switch shampoos/conditioners every 2 years for best hair results (news to me!). Long story short.. I HIGHLY recommend this salon. read more

Briana at Salon Freda was absolutely amazing! My daughter and I came in for a keratin treatment and she was able to get me in that day. She was really helpful in letting us know how to properly care for the treatment, and ways to make it last. She was also extremely knowledgeable in what she was doing, and she told me all the products that was in the Keratin. I was hesitant at first when I heard that the keratin treatment has harmful ingredients, but Briana informed me that there are many different types of Keratin treatments that have different ingredients, and the one she uses does not have the harmful chemical. Having a hairdresser who can tell me the ingredients in the treatment she uses, is really refreshing. Also- As a Single mother who works full time, it is great to have a hair dresser who is able to work on my schedule. I will definitely be coming back to Salon Freda just to see Briana, and I will be recommending her to all my friends! read more

I started coming here early this year. I had lived in Cleveland for many years and loved my stylist there. Even after I moved back to Detroit, I still drove 3 hours each way to see my stylist in Cleveland for a year and a half. We all know what an important relationship we have with our stylist so it was going to take a LOT to get me to change. A friend recommended Salon Freda and Kara and thank goodness she did! The salon is warm and welcoming and everyone is so friendly. They do everything they can to fit you in at a time that's convenient for you. I love Kara! I have been going to Salon Freda for around 5 years now. I love it! They are professional and clean and know what they're doing. I actually stopped telling my stylist what to do because when she tells me what looks best she's always right! She always tells me exactly what will look best and what will be best for the health of my hair. They are so friendly and kind to all of their clients. I love the feeling of being pampered. Recently I went in for my regular appointment and they were short staffed, they were up front about the situation and you could tell everyone was working hard as a team to service all of their clients. I was even given a free treatment for the inconvenience. They know how to treat their clients! I wouldn't think of going anywhere else! I highly recommend Shina! read more

I love coming here! Shina is my girl and I couldn't be happier with everything she does: cut, color, style and tips knowing I struggle to do my own hair!! Friendliest front desk service, between offering water to chatting up on the way out. For me it's a nice two hours of being pampered and I always get complimented the next day no matter what is done.
