My hair is also curly. Bleach & curls don't normally mix. Every time I've gotten it professionally done, my blonde breaks off, my hair is dry & the hairdressers are quick to whip out a paddle brush after washing without conditioner/cream which leads to my wet hair breaking and stretching. When I showed pictures to each hairdresser (chocolate brown with light ends), I always end up with bleach blonde highlights against my black hair. It was always the worst. I told myself I wasn't going to pay $400 anymore to come out looking worst. I took the chance with Janelle. She sat with me and talked about what I liked about each picture I sent, she recommended specific products she used (her line of products have left my hair so soft), & when I told her that my blonde usually breaks off and that it's dry... she gave me a specific plan to get my hair where it needed to be & she told me she would used Olaplex on each step to maintain the integrity. Most of all... Janelle used a wide tooth COMB to de-tangle my hair and used a leave-in conditioner WITHOUT me saying ANYTHING!!! She was so gentle with my curls. It really let me know she cares and is conscious of curly hair & the patience it takes. Lastly, after I left... my hair was immediately healthier and more manageable. I didn't think that was possible. Janelle mentioned she will gradually go lighter to ensure no breakage & that if I wanted, I could go months without coming back based on how she colored it. My goal is lighter, so I will be going back within a few weeks using her curly hair plan. I will always recommend Janelle for my curly hair girls & I am so happy that I found her!

I called in a couple of days prior to see if I can get an appointment with Pinky. Luckily she had availability the next week at a perfect time for me! I walked in and was greeted right away. It was a bit chaotic, but I was able to get a wash easily. Unfortunately once Pinky started combing thru my hair, she saw that there was still some residue of conditioner left, so we had to rinse again. No problem, though. Onto the cut- I told her exactly what I wanted, how many inches off, and showed her an inspo picture! She blew dried my hair and started styling and omgoodness, it was better than the inspo picture! I visited this salon in July 2021, to get an all over maroon/red color. For reference, I had dark brown/reddish hair. I had sent the stylist photos of my hair (color/length) & the desired result prior to the service. When I got to the appointment I STRESSED how important the quality/integrity of my hair was, and how I have had a bad experience with bleach in the past. She assured me she understood and that I wouldnt have any issues because I wasn't going lighter. Here's where things got bad... she insisted I lift my existing color because I had "box dyed" hair which was inconsistent- again I mentioned I do not want to damage my hair, and she again assured me this is a "Clay lifting treatment" that will not damage my hair. 6 hours & over $500 later, I had a great color and treatment- or so I thought because I could not tell what she had done on a full blow out. When I washed my hair at home, I realized my hair was terribly stringy, and when I combed it out I saw that an ENTIRE CHUNK of my hair was missing on my front left (so bad that I had to get bangs to try and hide the missing hair). I went back and gave them a chance to fix the terrible mistake- she offered me a quick conditioning treatment, but ALSO had the audacity to tell me she had noticed I was missing a chunk of hair when I had came into the appointment! So not only did she FRY my hair, she then lied about it and said it was existing?!?! Why didnt she mention anything at the service? Honestly... i do not know what they could possibly do to make this right, short of refunding me for the service- I just want to warn anyone else who is thinking of making the same mistake I did. The worse part is I had a great time at the salon with the stylist, and I thought we had created a good relationship. If this was all to charge me more- I am heartbroken because it will take years to fix this damage. I thought I was going to a reputable salon which is why I walked out paying over $500 dollars. She even rescheduled my initial appointment when I needed to cancel (with notice). I showed up to my appointment 10 minutes early which gave us more time for the consultation. Once the appointment started, she told me she hasn't taken new clients in over a year because the wait for her existing clients became too long. I asked, "so how did I get here?" She said she didn't know and that maybe I just emailed her at the right time. When I left my appointment with frizzy hair (I guess she doesn't flat iron hair or normally work with curly hair) she told me I could reschedule a new appointment next season or next year, it's up to me... I'm sure she is far more friendly and helpful with her existing clientele. I'm also sure I won't be returning but that is probably alright with Amy.

Given the 5 stars I was immediately interested. Finding the salon was a little difficult as it is located behind the Cvs & Chipotle in Gaithersburg Square. My GPS kept telling me I had arrived when in fact I hadn't lol parking was also a pain as I had to loop around 3 times before someone finally left. I've been to the Symmetry Salon in Bethesda once before so I knew stylists had their own private space. I honestly prefer it over a loud, hectic salon. Your stylist can truly give you their undivided attention. This location also sells Balmain products. Super chic. You can help yourself to coffee, water and snacks while you wait. There is an ATM located inside as well just in case you forget cash to tip! All payments are made through your stylist not the front desk. I believe the receptionist is there to mostly direct clients and to book appointments. Kirstie was fantastic! I truly mean that. The woman who saw me (younger of the two) asked what I wanted, I responded and she started to work on my brows. From the second she put the thread on my skin it was painful and I felt like my eyebrows were being ripped off and bleeding. Later I saw that I did have a scar and bruise above my eyes. It felt like she was bitter and purposely putting all her anger into ripping my eyebrow hair out. That's how bad the pain was. Disclaimer here, I am from a similar area of the world where I also get my eyebrows threaded and NO, I am not some sissy person who is new to threading. My mother was a professional threader and I've had my eyebrows touched by BOTH novices and experts and I NEVER had any pain like this. I am very thick skinned and my pain tolerance is high but this threading stop in the salon run by these two Indian women....go somewhere else. I don't want to shit on the other salons in here and I will probably go here to try another salon but the threading...NO. Just full stop. She was rude too. I don't usually give a damn about that if you service me well. But the pain was too much to come back. And the result was mediocre. Not worth it for me to drive an hour for it.
