You know when you find someone so amazing that you want to keep the secret because everyone else will go to them? Well, that's Domenica at Alliage. I went to her to color my hair. After spending 2yrs growing out my color and going nearly totally silver w/some dark brown stripes, I wanted color back. Problem was that I was nervous from previous experiences of damage and unsure what exactly I wanted other than I didn't want any bleaching due to the fragility of my hair. Knowing a consult is imperative to a first time color, I scheduled time to see Domenica. She had so much patience & took me through the various options. Ran a few different (hidden) tests and scheduled a time to return for the color. She suggested I think about our tests & was SO collaborative! That collaboration & patience was so helpful in assuring me that we can partner to getting to my desired color. When I returned, I knew, without question, what I wanted. She spent time taking me through the color options and confirming what I wanted and that afternoon I walked out absolutely loving my new color!! After years of growing out my hair partly because of my fear of hair salons, I found Alliage. I wanted to chop off about a foot of hair. My hair was obscenely long. I'd been battling with it for weeks, tossing around the idea of hair donation and dealing with the anxiety that maybe short hair just won't work on me. I made an appointment with Alliage honestly based on these rave reviews. I was happy I was able to get it for a very convenient time for my schedule. The location is easy to get to in the Kentlands and I had no trouble finding parking. The salon itself is a good size with a good number of stations and a nice seating area. It was quiet and not busy. I was the only client in there, which was nice. I think that's because it was in the middle of a weekday. I had Kaila and she was so nice from the get go. When I explained that I wanted to chop my hair, she was supportive. She listened to my ideas well and was right on board with my decision. I was so nervous but she put me at ease. She cut my hair dry, then wet, then dry again. She blow-dried it, then she curled it. I have never in my life loved a haircut more than I love this one! It's the perfect length. She took her time, I didn't feel rushed, and I could tell she paid a lot of attention to detail. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions during the cut, ranging from total shock to total excitement, and now I can't stop looking at or touching my new hair. The whole thing came to the very decent price of $45. I'm so happy with my new cut and I feel like a brand new person. I highly recommend Kaila at Alliage for haircuts! Can't comment on coloring (yet). But I will definitely return here. read more

I am continually on a search for finding "THE" salon for myself. Alliage is coming up pretty close as one of my favorites! I was able to call the same day and get an appointment later that afternoon, which is helpful since I usually decide on the fly that I am sick of my hair and need a change. The receptionist greeted me right away and was very friendly. She was barefoot in the salon for some reason, which was initially a put off, but I guess it is an indication of how clean the salon is - even the employees would walk around barefoot. The price on the website for women's haircut was $40+, but when I called, the range was $56-70. I have been to other high priced salons and were turned off because the staff were so pretentious, but not Alliage. They offered me drinks and water on several occasions and the staff were so accommodating. Rania was the one who worked with me. She was professional and very nice. The lady who washed my hair was full of compliments and just made me feel good, especially since she gave an amazing scalp massage. I cut off a good chunk of hair and received a lot of compliments from others. They gave me a discount for being a first time client, so my $70 haircut was only $63. It is pricier than I would like, but given that I only cut my hair twice a year, the friendliness and skills of the haircut would probably bring me back. read more

Comfortable & pleasant atmosphere. I am a man, and this is a hair salon. There is a difference between a barber shop, and a hair salon. I take pride in my appearance, what can I say. After going to about 3 or 4 different hairstylists in the area, I've finally found one that I love. I had previously been to this salon before, and had a male stylist who apparently left, which is great because that's how I got Rania :). What can I really say other than she does a great job with the cut and style of my hair, it's a small and pleasant place to go, and they have some great haircare products there. This place was pricier than anticipated, but I feel like I got my money's worth because my hair stylist Theingi cut my hair BEAUTIFULLY and so effortlessly. Not only were her and the woman who shampooed my hair great at what they did, they were so conversational and made me feel right at home. I love my new curly haircut! I love Rania! I had super long, heavy, hennaed hair that hadn't seen a scissor in about a year. I made an appointment with Rania instead of my former salon (Salon Red, also in Kentlands) as I was less than impressed with my last Ouidad hair cut there and was looking for someone who wasn't afraid to cut hennaed hair. The place is really well appointed, bright (of course clean) and everyone was pleasant and friendly. The staff really seemed to have a good rapport and it made for a very relaxing atmosphere. My sitter was busy so I had to bring my 2 year old daughter and a friend to corral her. This was not a problem, each person there was so kind and sweet to her and Rania even told me once when she saw I was getting tense, not to worry, that they were okay with children there! I can't even imagine that that would be a possibility at Salon Red. Rania sat down and spoke to me about my hair, I explained that I wanted more body and movement and maybe height, showed her a couple of pictures and she was confident that she could do what I asked and even offered suggestions and never once said that my round face couldn't handle it (happened at Salon Red, left with a boring no style cut) . She then proceeded to wash, cut and style my hair and made me look super cute! So there! Lots of curl, body and an actual style. The only thing I could say would be that I have a really sensitive scalp and at times the comb or styling hurt a bit, but that is probably more a function of my sensitivity than her handling. She explained how to style my hair, how to do my next henna and what kind of product I should use. Well worth the $81 plus tip. Even my husband said so! If you have curly hair, go see Rania at Alliage. She and her staff are just wonderful. read more

First of all, DO NOT buy the Groupon for Josie at this salon. The woman advertises as working for Alliage Spa and Salon, and she doesn't, she is an independent contractor. I made an appointment over a week ago for yesterday When I got to the salon, Josie was not there. The girls said she should be back shortly, as that is what she had told them. Come 5:30, they tried calling her because she was still not there and I could tell based on their faces and reactions that this was not the first time this had happened. They then came over to me and said she wanted to speak to me on the phone, which was very unprofessional, but ok, I picked up the phone. She starts to YELL at me that she had called me twice to confirm the appointment and left me messages, so she wasn't coming. I told her she never called me, I double-checked my voicemail, and checked my answering machine when I got home and had nothing on there either. I told her I made the appointment for 5:15 and was there at 5:15, I had never gotten any calls, and that I wanted my hair done. She told me she was home with her kids and wasn't coming in because I didn't confirm the appointment. I told her that she never told me when I made the appointment that I would need to confirm it and had no missed calls from her and that I was going out of town to an affair. She told me that WASN'T HER PROBLEM. The girls that work at Alliage were WONDERFUL. The girl sincerely apologized for Josie and spoke to her manager who agreed to do it for the Groupon price, even though they don't participate on Groupon. I was treated like crap by Josie. Jessica turned it around and made my experience a VERY positive one. She was sweet, caring and wonderful, and most importantly, she did a BEAUTIFUL job!! I am SO pleased with her work, she is a GENIUS when it comes to coloring and styling. I will definitely recommend her again and again and I will be returning! read more

I went to get a balayage and haircut done by Domenica. I couldn't be more satisfied! I walked in not really knowing how light I wanted my hair to go but she was very helpful in giving me suggestions! She was so gentle and definitely cared about my hair, the color wasn't as light as we both thought it would be but she did not hesitate to go back in and give me the color I wanted! She even gave me a treatment to help with the bleach damage! I would totally recommend her! The haircut was also super great I've always had issues with getting too much cut off and I told her I only wanted half an inch because I wanted my hair to grow out and that's exactly what I got!! Well, I'll never be going any where ever again for a haircut. After years of being disappointed with every other stylist, I found Rania!! As someone with long, curly hair who has had her share of cuts where the stylist took off way more than I wanted, I was always terrified of getting it cut (I know, I know, "it's just hair" but it's my hair and I like it). Rania talked to me about what I wanted and reassured me that she would keep it long. She told me exactly what she was doing every step of the way. It turned out even better than I expected (then again, my expectations were low considering how many terrible experiences I've had elsewhere). Alliage Salon and Spa is absolutely the best and I have been to many. From the time you walk in you will feel pampered. The receptionists greet you with a greeting and a smile. The receptionists always call to confirm appointments and know how to speak correctly on a phone. I have both my nails and hair done at Alliage. Rena is the best nail specialist I have ever seen. I have my nails done every three weeks and they always look great.. There is never chipping or breaking. Jessica does my hair and is amazing. I have followed her from hair school, to a salon in DC, a salon in Virginia, a salon in Rockville and now to Alliage. My hair is as straight as it can be which can be difficult to cut without leaving lines and she cuts it so no lines are visible. She highlights my hair and it truly looks natural. Jessica makes suggestions to update my look or about products with I might like. I never worry that I won't like what she does. She suggested a Keratin product called Solo which I love. It has no chemical in it and is 100% natural. My hair has never looked better or felt better. It is stronger, feels like silk, is very manageable and best of all it blows out without any frizz at all. I can go several days without doing my hair because it keeps its volume and shine. Additionally, Jessica is not scissor happy when she cuts. She always consults with the client to see exactly what they want. If they want 2 inches cut, that is what is cut. Also if a client comes in and has a great idea and Jessica knows the shape of the face or the client's hair will not accommodate the client's wishes she will explain to the client why it won't work for them. She wants her clients to be satisfied and works very hard to see that they are. I have sent many friends to her and they have remained clients because of her outstanding ability with cuts, color, and extensions. She is certified to do extensions and has taken color classes beyond what is taught in hair school. Jessica is great with kids and is one of the few stylists that still does updos. read more

I was a walk in, ( I'm visiting from out of town) and they fit me in right away (I was lucky) and I explained to Carolina that I needed a good trim just to take off the dead ends and reshaping.
