The staff are incredibly dedicated and passionate about what they do. Treehouse offers many services to help foster kids have a more stable and normal life. From tutoring and college preparation, to school supplies and clothing, to after school care and summer activities, Treehouse improves the lives of thousands of foster kids and helps meets economic needs that foster parents sometimes cannot. Like most nonprofits, Treehouse can always use help. My (former) workplace ran a clothing drive and then a group of about 10 of us sorted and tagged clothes for the Wearhouse. It was a fulfilling and heartwarming day of service. I would not hesitate to recommend the services this organization provides or suggest it as a nonprofit worthy of your support. It takes a few tries before really learning the ropes of this place, because the system is so disorganized. There are particular stations (ex. drinks, desserts, poultry, grains, canned goods, etc) that majority of the volunteers covered, and basically clients got in a line and circled around the facility, grabbing an item from each station. Volunteers only assisted people when clients couldn't reach at item. Other volunteers were the receptionist, who checked every client in, people who restocked the inventory or ran food drives in front of grocery stores. Cons: -the place is VERY small and with so many clients piling in, it gets cramped very quickly -as a volunteer, I feel like I'm not contributing anything at all; yes, some clients were grateful I was there, but I myself felt to gratitude -the permanent volunteers are very rude, bossy, and kind of like bullies (some of these volunteers claimed certain stations, not giving others a chance to be there) -the system is very disorganized. We would repackage grains, diapers, bagels, coffee, beans, etc. As well as sort cans and cereals into bins. It's a small place, but John seems to keep things running smoothly. They always seem to be overflowing with help and food around the holidays but slips from people's minds during the summer. It's disheartening to see the shelves get so bare. There are plenty of areas to volunteer, but parking is scarce. They offer a wide variety of foods to their patrons, sometimes including frozen meats and fresh produce. There is also a clothing bank run by Theresa in the other half of the building that we've donated to.

Schedule in advance on the online portal and there are so many ways you can help this organization. I have been taking one week off a year from work to spend time here, and my team (local tech giant) prefers to spend our limited holiday event budget attending a packing event, they will schedule in advance. We replaced the white elephant gift exchange with donating a wrapped gift for the kids. Yes, they do that too!! Don't take my (or the anonymous complainers) word for it, just go check them out online or in person. The work they are doing for our community is amazing. Pet Partners stopped by my office today with Therapy Animal teams for employees to visit with and…read morede-stress for a few hours in the morning. Not sure if they are affiliated with Sutter Medical's Paws On-Call or if that's Lend A Heart. Their Workplace Wellbeing program brings therapy dogs and other therapy animal teams directly to workplaces to boost morale, satisfaction, and productivity. Four pairs of dogs and their humans came, all female handlers, three male dogs and one female. Didn't catch all the names and exact breeds, but I did get to visit with each of them for a little bit. The dogs' names were Lucky, Harley, Meli (which means "Honey" in Hawaiian) the Goldendoodle and Gorder (sp?). They were each super sweet and very well-behaved, and my mood improved for sure. They were happy to sit, lie down, receive pets and give licks. Such good bois and girl doggos! Wish they could stay longer, or come back soon! Dog ages ranged from around 4 to 7 years old, with some as therapy animals already for 1-5 years. The handlers were local to the greater Sacramento/Yolo area, and usually do visits at hospitals, elementary schools, etc. Some of the pairs knew each other previously and others just met at our onsite location assignment today. We had all dogs, but according to their website, Pet Partners registers "nine different species of animals for therapy visits, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, birds, miniature pigs, and llamas and alpacas." If I hadn't been discharged an hour after Zander's visit, I definitely would have taken advantage of having more highly vetted, Pet Partners' animals stop by to say, "hi" but like I said, I was homeward bound piqued with curiosity to learn more about the program. Bellevue, WA based, Yelp listed but not claimed, "Pet Partners' mission is to improve human health and well-being through human-animal bond." Think therapy animals, not just dogs, bringing healing connection to hospitals, retirement homes and schools or assistance/working animals, to help disabled humans with tasks, or provide emotional support to those with mental illness and more. Not every pet, animal, has what it takes to be a Pet Partner, my furbabies are way too diva but perhaps yours might measure up. I would religiously once a month head to their Issaquah hub on their Saturday morning hours to donate gently used clothes that our little people had outgrown along with toys and other accoutrements. With my then late aged elementary school daughter we were able to volunteer together and it was a great way to bond and show her the impact she could have as were sorting clothes on a Saturday morning or grouping clothes and other items for children many at a similar age to she. Most recently as I've decided to take a break from the hectic world of finance, it has been a great organization to be able to go in for a one time volunteer opportunity during a weekday. The answer, donate to Eastside Baby Corner. This also holds true for other baby/toddler/kiddo things, like toys, playsets, baby food (new of course) and other youth related item. One thing to note, they don't actually give your stuff away to families... they work with local non-profits and hospitals to find those in need, the distribute through them. Think of them as the best donated baby stuff distributor ever, with a goal of helping the dis-advantaged. Just a note, they are located within a complex of storage spaces, so it may be off putting at first, but drive right in, the place is well labeled. For the Donation Giver: Washing your baby clothing; Bag everything up, find out when they are open, and stop on by. Try to keep it to kiddo clothing/kiddo things/kiddo stuff, they can't actually do anything with adult clothing, except give to another organization. For the Volunteer: They have plenty of opportunities, including sorting, cleaning clothing, packing, and even repairing old baby toys/seats/gadgets. They always welcome the help, and know you are directly helping to impact the community across the eastside of the Puget sound. I have volunteered here, and they are great! Look, you have old baby stuff, you just can't stand to throw away... instead donate it to Eastside baby.

What a great idea! Instead of just giving out food, each class participant gets a great lesson in cooking and nutrition, then they get to help create a meal in class AND a bag of groceries to take home with them to practice. The people at training were great - nutrition majors, foodies, chefs all mingling in a philanthropic pow wow. The training was hands on and interactive, and I really like Solid's Ground's focus on diversity, equality, respect and education as a way to help the community. Super cool place!
