The first time we tried OB we were hooked! The food, the service, the space, all solid. Fast forward to booking the upstairs for our wedding reception, huge mistake. Visited for my birthday, was kicked out of our table because we were 1 hour and 40 minutes into our 2 hour allotted time. So much so that the manager stood at the corner of our table asking when we were leaving because they had the next group waiting, he started taking our meals before we were done. Due to this interaction and a request to see the space while there, it was a mess. Fast forward to find out that manager was fired. I called to cancel our reception reservation, that same manager had filtered the calls I made from the owners. A month before our reception was to take place the owner reached out to finalize the menu, having no clue we had cancelled. The owner is a true gem, she was very understanding and helpful and apologetic. We gave OB one more chance after that, letting all those things go - the food was horrible. I was served completely inedible chicken. It had the texture of rubber. I told the on duty manager, she took my meal said sorry, didn't comp, didn't ask if I wanted something else. I had to stop at chic-fil-a to get a meal. Just has seriously gone downhill. Work on food quality and staff management and I think it could seriously improve. read more

Abbi (yes, correct spelling) was lovely in helping walk me through this process of reserving room setup, flowers, food, expenses, and everything. I honestly had NO idea ‍ what I was doing. She made the entire process seem less & it turned out beautifully, simply EXACTLY as we hoped for. We opted for a cocktail type open bar heavy hors d'oeuvres event from 4-7. Our guests streamed in & out of my father's wake comfortably. The Bartender, along with Abbi, MADE this event! Came to Grand Rapids for a business trip. Was looking for some place local to have dinner/drinks. The Ambiance and atmosphere was epic! One of those speak easy kind of vibes with more bourbon's and whiskey options than 1 could dream of. I personally have a gluten allergy, and was torn between the pork hop and the ribeye. Ultimately I went for the ribeye, and OMG, it just melts in your mouth! The ribeye was so delicious, I forgot to take a picture of it, lol. Beyond the Ambiance, and the food...I have to commend the wait staff on amazing service! The service was that of what you'd expect from a place that charges $40+ per oz. on steaks...not a place that charges $40 per steak! We came to Grand Rapids in search of some amazing food and One Bourbon did not disappoint. First walking in we were greeted with kind smiles and great customer service. Our shareable we picked out was the hot cheese dish. Our entrees included the bourbon poutine and 1b burger. The burger was full of flavor! Highly recommend! The poutine was a fan favorite of my husbands but beware if you don't like peppered gravy then this isn't your dish. Contrary to their name, their menu has considerably more than one option for Bourbon. In fact they have so many options it's easy to get lost in endless possibilities. On a cold October evening during COVID we came here with some friends. I'm typically a scotch drinker, but settle for Bourbon on occasion. I was recommended one from their selection and it did not disappoint. It was so pleasing to have the warmth of the Bourbon while we sat outside. We feasted on a smorgasbord of appetizers, of which each were average to above average. It's not unfair to say that the company was better than the food. I would certainly come back, it's somewhat of a novelty to have so many whiskey/Bourbon/scotch options. Maybe a drink or two with an old friend. Or a cocktail after dinner. I had a decent sized group that I requested outdoor seating for...and Meagan and her staff made sure we were all well attended to. Not to mention, I asked Meagan to recommend a bourbon for me for my evening and it was amazing. The BBQ poutine was phenomenal. The attention to detail at One Bourbon is rare hence why I've changed my rating from four stars to five. I've been wanting to visit this place for awhile. Their selection of bourbon is extensive. I can see how it could be intimidating for more novice bourbon drinkers. But their staff is incredibly helpful when it comes to helping others decide on what to order based off their preferences. My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner at One Bourbon tonight. The service was very friendly from the hostess to the waitress and manager/co-owner. We had a pretty early dinner which helped us get seated quickly and it was actually happy hour, to our surprise. We started with the Georgia Egg Rolls which we loved. The rice/beans added a great texture to the egg roll while the garlic aioli was the perfect dipping sauce. I ordered the turkey reuben and my wife ordered the fried chicken. The entrees are large and we ended up taking a box home with leftover chicken and our combined leftover fries. The turkey reuben was fantastic and easily one of the best I've ever had. The cole slaw was a little runny which made the bread start to get soggy to the end but it wasn't horrible. My wife enjoyed the chicken and she asked for the Nashville hot sauce on the side, which was smart because it definitely had a kick. Overall, this place has a cool atmosphere/vibe to it and the design of the restaurant is awesome. The old exposed brick and local touches hanging on the walls were perfect. The co-owner stopped by our table multiple times to check on our drinks, appetizers, and finally the entrees. We will definitely be back! read more

The food and drinks were tasty, the server who waited on us, a party of 21, was AMAZING. He the best job juggling a large party on his own and communicating his strategy of putting orders in staggered as not to overwhelm the kitchen, which was fine, he was so attentive with ensuring we had what we needed and checked in with us frequently and always made sure we had full drinks while we waited. He accommodated taking care of the children's food order first so they could leave early. This man gets a 10/5 stars. And, whomever I spoke to on the phone to help me make the reservation was simply the kindest human I've ever encountered. Truly, the staff at this place are incredible and I hope the owner that employs them interacts better with them than she did with me. The loss of 2 stars on this review is primarily because of the owner and how a quick, but very negative interaction completely changed what should have been the best restaurant experience I've ever had, to putting me off completely and will likely result in this weekend being the only time this restaurant gets my business. I needed a reservation for a large party fairly quickly as the original restaurant we booked couldn't accommodate our increased numbers. I called One Bourbon and the woman I spoke to (not the owner) offered us 3 tables to accommodate our group size and I quickly accepted. At the end of making the reservation she said "it will have to be on one bill though" and I said "Oh, I'm not sure we can do it then." I got off the phone, and she called back 3 minutes later and said "I just talked to our manager, they said we will divide the checks, but 20% gratuity will be included on each bill." I was so grateful and immediately confirmed, excited we had found such a perfect location. Fast forward to the afternoon of the dinner and someone, not the owner, called me to confirm numbers, asked about children so they could ensure we had boosters, asked about allergies and said they were looking forward to having us. At no point during this call, did anyone mention the inability to split checks. I actually sent a message to my co-hosts expressing just how impressed I was with the experience thus far. This call would have been a great opportunity for them to change things up if they so needed so I could make a game plan and communicate accordingly on my side. That evening, everyone gathered, I got the birthday boy to the restaurant and the set-up was perfect! The server ushered us back, introduced himself and I have to say again how great this man was the entire night. When I finally settled into my seat after saying hello to everyone, I was immediately approached by a woman who introduced herself as the owner. I shook her hand and asked if she was who I had spoken to on the phone because I was about to give her and her staff praise and thank her for how great everything had been when she cut me off and very rudely said "some people here think you're splitting checks and we can't do that." I was really caught off guard since everyone was already at the restaurant and this was NOT a great time to relay that information. I explained to her what I was told and that I wouldn't have confirmed the reservation otherwise to which she replied "well I'm the owner and I say no, we're already doing you a favor by accommodating a reservation over 14. You're welcome to have everyone Venmo you." I didn't realize they had a reservation cap, this was the first time that had been mentioned. Her words, her tone and overall demeanor made it seem like we were unwelcome. As I looked around, I saw that the dining room where we were was really not that busy. The bar area was busy, and perhaps the outdoor area was as well, but where we were there were open tables, so I wasn't sure why she didn't seem to want our business and felt the need to convey her annoyance at our existence in her establishment. After that brief, but jarring encounter, she stormed off and I never saw her again that night. My recommendation to improve is for the owner. Ensure proper communication prior to the arrival of guests. Ensure your staff are all on the same page as far as your policies and any exceptions so the guests have the opportunity to make an informed decision. And, most importantly, work on how you interact with guests. I don't know if you were just having a bad night, or if this is how you interact with people on a regular basis, but you made a terrible impression and you could have handled this situation in so many different ways than how you did. You made a choice to be rude and make us feel unwelcome in that brief interaction, which is a shame because I really did enjoy your restaurant and again, your staff are maybe the best I've ever encountered. read more

Update January 2020 One Bourbon has turned into a regular spot for date night. The food is a great selection of southern inspired comfort food. The southern chicken sandwich is a must try along with the poutine and the shrimp and grits. The pickles and cheese appetizer is a nice starter to share. The pickles are house made and complement the cheese perfectly. I have also enjoyed their specialty cocktails and great selection of bourbon. Meagan is a sweetheart and always treats us like family.
