Instead of helping first-time donors feel comfortable, the environment and attitude from employees were stressful and rude to the point that my blood pressure became too high to even finish the check-up process. I understand safety procedures are important, but there's a difference between being professional and treating people like they're doing something wrong just for being there. A little kindness and professionalism would go a long way, especially for new donors who may already be nervous.

Only time you may have a slow day is when it's busy in there, since only so many people can be taken at a time. But if you go in on a slow time / day, the procedure is quick and you're out in about 45-50 min once you begin the procedure. Really have enjoyed my experience so far here, glad to be a consistent donor here.

I have heard a lot of reasons not to give blood..."I don't have the time"..."I don't have good…read moreveins"..."don't like needles"...etc. The blood centers of south florida cancels all those reason. You can show up whenever you like or make an appointment, either way the most time I have ever seen it take for whole blood is a half hour. Donating whole blood is simple, one needle to a bag, bag fills you are gone. Normally once they stick you it is only 10 minutes. After you give whole blood it is about 2 months before you can give blood again. As far as veins and needles go, all these people do is find veins...and insert needles. All days veins and needles. I have spent weeks in the hosiptal due to my own stupidity when I was younger I was pretty much a pin cushin, I know what it feels like to get a bad stick; not once have I ever gotten a bad one from them. The people there are nice and helpful and they have locations all over south florida. Before you can donate you are given a…read morequestionnaire and vitals are taken afterwards you go to a recliner type bed and your blood is drawn . The entire process takes about 20 to 30 minutes . Afterward you are given a T-shirt and I was given a gift card of my choice . They offered water and snacks but I'm staying away from junk food . Supper nice people and it's a pleasure to donate . I remembered when my husband needed a blood transfusion and someone donated or sold their blood. I also heard it's healthy to donate I'm not sure how true this is.

I have donated here more than 10 times now even though I live more than 8 miles away just because the experience is so comfortable in comparison to the limited space on the bus. I bring my own headphones with an aux cable to watch Netflix while donating. Estrella in particular is incredible at getting the needle in with no pain. I work at a hospital and we're always short on platelets (they barely last a week in storage) so please donate!

Weird since I walked in to an empty facility. Check-in was pretty straightforward, and since I was donating platelets for a relative, they asked for other info that I was able to get over the phone. The apherisis equipment was an updated version from what I was used to (one arm instead of two) and the procedure took quite a while - about 2 1/2 hours. Entertainment options were pretty good and it was nice to get a T shirt at the end.
