I arrived at 445 at your Waldorf location and was refused entry due to the establishment closing at 5pm. This was very disappointing as a new potential customer of being refused service after someone entered with their child 2 minutes before myself. Part of my assumption was due to me having a large bag of clothes to sell and them not wanting to deal with the process of processing them for potential payment; this is WRONG if so. Also the outside of the establishment window sign says the location closes at 6pm. All of it is misleading and a terrible way to run a business. I also called the store at 4:55 and nobody answered(no surprise) and the voicemail was full. Hopefully Crofton MD location will provide better service, Waldorf MD location is giving Once Upon a Child a bad look. read more

This is the most inconsistent and unprofessional place I've ever been to. I initially thought it was a blessing but no. 1. They don't wash/ wipe down anything before putting it on the shelves (was told by employee / seen this) 2. If you call and ask when drop off stop they say ON THE PHONE a certain time then 20 min later when you get there (6times in a row) they're not taking anything. They open at 10 but if you're here at 10:30 " we have so much that we're cutting it off". I actually sat out front from the time they opened and seen a small amount of donations but not enough for 4 people to complain about. 3. If a toy is missing a small piece they dont take it but they sell broken toys that dont work or are rusted in the battery compartment. 4. NASTY ASS ATTITUDES I hate that they have great pass me downs sometimes for a very affordable price. But this is the last time i can take driving almost a hr for bad service and nasty attitudes. My husband came on two separate occasions to try to sell items. Both times he was met by an unfriendly and quite rude associate who claimed they only accept items for selling on weekdays. He obliged and drove 30 minutes back to the store a week later (during the week) only to be told you have to arrive as the store is opening to sell items. I have sold items at the Gambrills location several times with no issues at all, on various days at different times. We will not be returning and I strongly advise owner/management to refresh store employee's customer service skills. It would also be extremely helpful to provide all information for potential sellers upfront. read more

I have been receiving text messages about Once Upon A Child for quite some time but I have never been to the store. My Grandson will be attending a new school and my Daughter and I are on the hunt for blue pants and light blue polo shirts. I decided to stop by as it is less then 10 min from home. I was greeted warmly by the staff when I walked in around 1:30 pm on a Sunday. There were People in the store but it was not crowded. I was really surprised by the quantity and quality of the clothes, shoes, books, toys and baby items in the store. Everything was clearly sectioned off by age and sex. I even saw People coming in to drop off things to be sold at the store. I did not find the famous blue uniform pants or light blue polo shirt, probably due to the time of year as they are usually everywhere at the start of the school year. But I did see a lot of cute, reasonably priced things for a baby girl who will be here in a few months. I suspect there will be many return visits. read more

Where do I start? The staff is not friendly. 4 people behind the counter and not one person will greet you when you walk though the door. Don't even waste your time showing up to donate anything because they are NEVER accepting donations Call before you pack your car and drive to the location. And if they give a day they are accepting donations, call again that morning because chances are, they will tell you they are "no longer taking donations for the day" as early as 10:30am when they open at 10am! It's a joke! The store owner couldn't possibly know they are running the store like this. When I first started going there over 2 years ago, the owner use to be in the store all the time and I never had these problems. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I do often find something to buy in the store. The organize the store my gender and sizes so the store is easy to navigate. And since they pick through the items they accept for donation, the items are usually in fair/new shape. At this point I would ONLY recommend if wanting to shop without donating. read more

We drove an hour from Virginia to check the store out. Confirmed the store hours of operation on google and Facebook before we left and we arrived at 12:45 on a Sunday, within the 11-5 posted hours but the doors were locked. We knocked, called (no answer and voicemail was full) and waited a while but while the lights were on no one appeared. Three other families came by to shop while we were there and we're also confused why it was closed. There was a sign up saying no more drop offs but nothing about an unexpected closure. The concept is nice. You fill out an online form, put your stuff in a bin and later get a text saying your quote is ready. I sold very very nice things to them with tags and if no tags; not worn but once. However, the quote was very low. For example, I was told I'm only getting $4 for a pair of brand new name brand shoes. I could had sold my stuff for hundreds online or on the side of the road. I wonder what they quoted others. I saw a few people with items that definitely looked worn. Long story short; I took the offer out of convenience. My suggestion is that they provide an itemized print out of the items they want to buy with prices. It can give you a better picture of what you are willing to part with or not. What I don't like is the understaff on weekends. I would think the weekends would be the days you would have coverage due to the traffic being high. Your unable to sell your items on the weekend which I think that something they should disclose on the website. She proceeded to tell me that they have to much and she can not accept my items. That would of all been ok if this young lady greeted me with a "hi how are you but at this time..." The customer service here is lacking. I've only sold not purchased. The one time I wanted to purchase, I asked the cashier if she knew how much the drawing mat was and she looked at it, said she don't know and told me to look on it, like I was bothering her-really. Great customer service would have warranted you to have come from behind the counter to assist-I was the only customer. Also, they take several hours, days even to call you in when they're ready to give you their offer for your items. They act as if you have to give them brand new with tag items, because they've always given me the majority of my items back citing "stained" or "worn" when I know for certain I don't even donate such items let alone try to sell them. I don't have this issue at Gambrills-EVER. I took the very bag of full clothes back from them to the Crofton/Gambrills location and they took 21 pieces; there was but three to four pieces remaining. They don't take "stained" or "worn" pieces either but they paid for my items-imagine that. The customer service in Gambrills is way better and at max you are waiting 45 minutes for an offer. It's an hr out of my way and the Waldorf location is much closer to me but I will no longer patronize them. It's a waste of your time-trust me. New moms, bargaining moms, moms of multiples! This place is heaven sent! I have been coming here to sell my sons clothes for about 8months now on and off but yesterdays trip I decided to make a purchase finally as I was lookin for something in particular. (Typically I stock up on his wardrobe from my local Goodwill) but finding things there can be hit or miss but I knew Once Upon would have more of a selection of what I needed! Anyway I get there and as always the place is very nicely well kept and fully stocked in each category they offer! I was able to find what I needed and alot more lol! Fast forward to check out, I had the pleasure of being rung up by the owner Nicole! Who was manning the store alone for the duration of business hours!( I went in at 4pm). She was very nice and answered any questions I had and made sure I was getting the most for my money! Ive been in here multiple times before not interacting with other staff members much aside from dropping off my things to sell. While they are typically helpful and get me in and out to serve my purpose , I am very happy today when I decided to make a purchase for once that she was there to service me! Just off of our encounter alone I will now make it my business to actually shop a little more frequently instead of just making profit via their "buy/sell program"! I love OUAC as a company. I've been shopping at the one in Crofton for YEARSSSSS, so nevertheless I was super excited when they brought one to waldorf. I have been to the waldorf location a total of 5 times. (I believe in giving chances) unfortunately the ONE experience I had was my very first one back when they first opened. Since then it has gone down hill. I have walked in multiple times and the staff is having inappropriate conversations, loud and cursing. Absolutely no will to help when I've had question. Even when checking out there is no personality or care. Sometimes they don't even stop their conversations and completely ignore the customer. The Prices are decent. Overpriced in comparison to other OUACs I've visited. The customer service is lacking. I do not recommend and definitely will continue to Crofton, Glen Burnie, Ellicott City, its a drive but its worth it. read more

At The other locations it takes about 45 mins max! Then they call and rush you to come back and get your items or they will be donated to good will. They say they can not tell you how much your items came to over the phone. My biggest issue with this place is PEACHES! I'm assuming she is related to the owner since she gets away with talking to customers any kind of way and still has a job. She complains about being at work and not having frequent brakes in front of customers. Mostly she goes back and forth with people in the line. I must say I was VERY excited to have a location closer to my home. My first couple experiences weren't the best however I decided to return to shop, understanding its a new business. This particular location takes FOREVER to go through your items (clothing/shoes) and give you an offer for your items. Ive been to other locations and I've gotten an offer in 30-40 minutes. Secondly, the shelves are almost always bare! The selection is very slim! The biggest issue is the customer service, on a scale from 1-10 (with 1 being the lowest) I would rate this location a 0! NOBODY SPEAKS (GOOD MORNING, HELLO, HOW ARE YOU)! NOBODY SMILES! It baffles me because this is a KID FRIENDLY/ FAMILY FRIENDLY store! I had such high hopes to support a black owned business... unfortunately I will not be returning! I refuse to spend my money there. On my last visit to the store, I arrived 6 minutes AFTER there listed opening time. I walked to the door to find it locked and two employees inside counting the drawers. I didn't expect them to stop and let me in HOWEVER I did expect them to acknowledge me standing there (waiting to spend more $). After about 4 minutes of standing at the front door, I was let in to shop. And still NOT greeted with a smile. I went to the restroom before shopping to find a locked restroom door. There was a young lady shopping in the back who saw me trying to access the restroom. She told me to go to the front and let them know. Come to find out, she was an employee shopping instead of helping count drawers, fill shelves, sort through drop offs OR anything else more important than shopping. Again at this time the store was officially open. She was also on the clock, how do I know? She rushed to the register soon as another customer was ready to check out. So once I was assisted with the restroom, I politely said "Thank you", the young walked away without saying "You're welcome". I am beyond disappointed in this location. First off i have to say that this is an amazing store in general. We just recently moved from virginia beach and learning that there is a once upon a child in Waldorf made me Sooo happy! With that being said this store in particular is very very very disappointing. They place itself is very nice and big, its clean and neatly organized a pleasure to shop around in. They dont have as many things as this store in other cities (specially size 18 months to 2 years) but its understandable because its new so i get it. My biggest complaint with this store is the staff. I dont know why on earth the ladies working there would EVER be hired. Ive seen who i believe is the owner or manager there a few times and she is always WONDERFUL, interacts with costumers is helpful and kind just amazing overall. In fact this morning she was there and i over heard her talking to her staff literally teaching them how to greet costumers. Good morning! She said cheerfully and the staff WOULD NOT for the life of me even had a good attempt to do what they were told. Just say good morning! And be nice! How hard is that?!! It was super awkward. For whatever reason they DONT SAY. Please, thank you, hello, your welcome it is soooo hard for them to be pleasant and polite and nice They always act like they are better than you and have something better to do than to help you. I dont understand why. Its not just with me its with every costumer that walks in. Even i want to say good morning! Cheerfully to the people coming in! I came here once & when I wouldn't accept their offer, she put my container to the side without a word with an attitude. When I just went there Jun 7th, I gave them 2 brand new unopened Science sets, a pair of brand new pants, and BRAND NEW new balances(retail $70). She gave $8, and gave me back the shoe box. I didn't realize that the shoes were not in the box until today. She definitely low balled me(white older woman). I will never return there. I've sold here a couple times, and shopped a few times. The deals are good, but the customer service isn't. Almost every time I get to the register, I'm met with an unexpected hitch, and no sympathy or apology for the confusion. Today's example: There's a 20 for $10 sale on bodysuits (onesies, usually 10 for $10). That's a GREAT deal, so I came in to stock up for our baby boy. I go back to the bodysuits section and start digging. To start, a LOT of incorrect sizes are mixed in where they shouldn't be, which slows me down. The store has been open for 1 hour, and this is the first day of the sale - it appears nobody checked the section to reorganize before the sale. I choose my 20 pieces and a couple pairs of shoes and head to the register. I'm told that 5 of my pieces aren't bodysuits (even though they have snaps on the bottom) they are T-shirt's, because there's no shoulder flap. What?? The excuse is that customers put things in the wrong place. There was literally an employee pulling things from that section when I arrived in the aisle, and the look on his face when the clerk told me this rule was one of confusion and surprise. So the staff isn't even all informed of what is or isn't in the right place and on sale. I went back and chose additional pieces. All in all, it's not the end of the world, but it's a pattern of confusion and unclear policies that makes shopping here stressful. Just don't walk in expecting a simple checkout. read more

*sigh* Unfortunately my review is very similar to many of the others. I was hoping that maybe my experience would be different because I'm a huge fan of "Once Upon A Child", Gambrills... but this location is different in that the employees are so unprofessional, no one really seemed to want to be there...one lady was gossiping about her fellow coworkers right in front of me, while also complaining that my items were causing her stress to ring up because I guess I was purchasing too many things, another was complaining that she had been there all day without a break which is why she was in a bad mood... the store had a bit of a long line but they only had ONE person ringing people up. It took forever and I had to remind them to apply my sale which the cashier couldn't figure out after several minutes so my only option was to use a store credit and buy more things vs. lowering my overall sales price. Meanwhile at least 5 other employees were just talking or sorted the donation bins. On the upside they had a pretty good assortment of clothing & shoes and the prices were on track with what I'd expect at the other location. But I'm just really disappointed overall. I left feeling really frustrated and insulted. In the future I will either just make the trip to Gambrills, or go to the Waldorf location having mentally prepared myself for just getting my kids clothes/shoes as quickly as possible to get out of there. read more

Not a great store! This location gives the brand a very bad name. Employees discuss personal matters using profanity in the front of the store around employees. They don't have a set procedure for buying items, it's a matter of opinion from the cashier sorting through your items, I've waited over 3 hours for my order to be fully complete. Super happy this was closer to me than Gambrills location. Was hoping it had better selection in clothing and was cleaner and to my surprise scored with both! Super clean, lots of great merchandise and prices are GREAT! I have been to many different Once Upon A Child stores in many states and I'm very happy with the outcome of this location so far. Great experience. The store is nicely stocked, super clean. The owner is the sweetest. If you follow the guidelines they provide for selling them you will have no issues. I love that they have new items with tags for sale too. Oh and the Melissa and Doug item selection is great! Stop in! You won't be disappointed. read more
