I don't understand how we can take brand new items still have tags (just clothes my babies ended up not wearing), items worn once or twice, hardly worn items, ect and they're not accepted but they have stained clothes and dirty toys on the shelves. I have come here numerous times and found some good deals. However, when I went today to sell there was a lady ahead of me. She was asked to stay in the store as they would process her quickly as she didn't have a lot of things. I totally understand that. What I don't understand, is why I was standing there for 5 minutes and not greeted or even told, "just give us a minute." But to just ignore me completely is unacceptable. I don't think I've felt so passionately about disliking a store in a long time. I typically love OUAC stores. I frequent them wherever we live and have clothed my kids in clothes from these stores almost exclusively for years. That was until we came to Jacksonville. Every time I leave this store I have had a bad experience. Every time I feel the need to go there, I'm mad that I have to go. To start, the clothing seems to be organized by someone who never shops for their own kids clothing there. And honestly, it's probably because they don't. Who would want to? All the girls dresses are crammed down at the bottom so if you want to shop for those, you're crawling along their gross floors. Pjs for 12 months and older, gotta crawl! They are also typically the longest items so they are all dragging on the floor making it even harder to look through. Thanks, team! Selection is just absolutely horrible. You try to sell your clothes there, they will take next to nothing. You're then baffled when you try to shop because everything is either old and dingy or it is completely inappropriate for the age. I don't know who is making the buying decisions here but again, likely not mothers to kids these ages. The store is packed with stuff but when you actually look on the racks, you're disappointed. You also can't count on them having a lot of the items you need. Pajamas any size other than infant sizes? Not likely. Random sizes of boys shirts? Here are 10 options. You want books? Good luck... what's reading? There is also no give and take on their return policy here. Any other OUAC I've been to will give you store credit if you return with a receipt and tags on after their awesome 7 day return period. They seem to understand that expecting a busy parent to shop these clothes, bring them home, try everything on their squirming kids, and get back to the store more than one time a week is difficult. Giving me store credit also means I wouldn't be taking anything away from them. They still get their money from me. Not here! I brought back returns that did not fit my kids outside the 7 day window and they just kept repeating "the return policy is 7 days" over and over. I was polite and told them the clothes don't fit my kids and I cannot use them, what am I to do? They then proceeded to suggest that I SELL the clothes back to them! When I asked for an example of how much I'd get, they grabbed a dress with the $4.50 tag (THEIR tag) and told me I'd maybe get $1 for it. Laughable. Want to sell things here? They will only take the bare minimum. I'm completely shocked when I pick up my totes still filled with items. This isn't just me either. I have seen numerous customers become visibly frustrated with the ladies that work there and their reasoning for not accepting items. Again, look at what they have at the store and this will completely confuse you. The trouble is that this is the only option for used children's clothing in the area and the owner knows that. It is a horribly run business. I'd suggest shopping the Carters, Old Navy, and The Children's Place in the area. All those stores are usually 50-70% at all times. Not far from the price gouging you'll get for the worn out clothes you'd get here. read more

I loved the organization in this Once Upon a Child! I went in right when they opened and was trading in some of my daughters item. They were super kind and by the end it took about 30 minutes for them to complete. The amount you get back is what you would expect but I like this better than selling the items on my own. As I waited for them to process my items I was pleasantly surprised with how organized they were. The clothes were well labeled and color coordinated and the toys had bin labels (some with images). This was the cleanest and most organized Once Upon a Child I have ever been too! read more

I went in to sell a bin of nice children's clothing. They seemed short staffed with 3 workers. But, they preceded to tell me that my stuff should be done in 2.5 hours. It took 4.5 hours. Basically, 3 to 7:30, they close at 8 so. I have never had any Once Upon A Child take that long. If they thought they couldn't do it, then close the selling at 3 or sooner. I will not be back. This place has gone downhill so bad. My son was so excited to try to sell his clothes and now they have a new rule that if they see a single strand of hair on just one of the clothes they won't take ANYTHING. They won't even look at anything else you have. They also said if you don't have everything laid completely flat they also won't look or take it. Just really sucks my son worked so hard and put everything together and I wasn't aware of their new rules and we drove 30 minutes to bring everything here just to basically get told to kick rocks within 1 minute. A whole hour of my day completely wasted. I had really nice items, some still had the tags and named brand. They also then go to say I could bring it in a laundry basket but not sure how that works if they have to be laid completely flat. read more

I asked to be guided to different items and they knew exactly where i needed to go. Staff was kind, well mannered, and gracious. Me and my family brought in an entire box of CLEAN clothes. We sat at the counter waiting for someone to help us, which is no problem- but nobody acknowledged us at all. Then when they did finally help us, they said "oh they have a weird odor to them" and didn't accept them. They were perfectly clean WASHED clothes in great condition. This location is extremely ghetto. There's always a customer flipping out on the workers, but that's not my main issue today. The customer service here is inadequate. You're either going to be treated very well and the workers are going to be very friendly to you, or the workers are going to be very short and rude to you. There is no in between. The last time I came here we bought $240 worth of clothes, the woman ringing me up had just been chewed out by a customer. I truly do feel sorry for the workers here and don't blame them for being short sometimes to their customers. However, I got home and began washing all the new clothes I had just bought and stuck to the inside of the jeans was a bloody, used bandaid. The workers are clearly overwhelmed by the amount of clothes being dropped off and are not thoroughly checking these items. The pink leather jacket I bought is ripped on the inside and had a big stain on it. I should have really checked it in store but I trusted the workers to have done this. It's very disappointing. A few months ago I had dropped off brand new clothes that my daughter didn't get the chance to wear and they accepted only a few items, but they're accepting clothes with stains, rips, and dirty bandaids in them. Last week I dropped clothes off at 2pm, they texted me at 6:45 that they were ready. By the time I got there, they were closed and they said they had to be donated and I could not get store credit. I am very disappointed! I have been to the Jacksonville NC and Goldsboro NC stores before so I am aware of what kind of items they are willing to buy from you. I have never had a problem selling to them before. The other day I brought in only worn once dance costumes, shoes that had only been worn a couple times with absolutely nothing wrong with them, a sweatshirt that was brand new, and some toys. I wasn't expecting them to purchase everything from me but I was expecting them to purchase most of it, because my stuff was in good shape. Like I said, I've been here several times before so I know about what they will and will not buy. While I waited for them to go through my things, I walked around shopping for my kids so I could do a trade. As I shopped, I noticed several clothing items and especially the shoes that were stained, faded, and not in good condition. I was honestly surprised because many items did not meet their standards. I waited for 2 hours for them to tell me they weren't going to purchase anything from me. I was livid. I wouldn't have been as upset if they weren't selling stuff that was in MUCH worse condition than what I brought in. I'll be taking the same exact items to Goldsboro to see if I need to stop going to Jacksonville or Once Upon Child altogether. Not a good way to run a business like this!! read more

I have been here just a couple of times I use to like it. I have taken a bunch of clothes one other time than today (11/4/2023) and had NO issues with them taking ALL of my things. Today I go in with a boat load of stuff already knowing not everything they will take. Now, what I have a problem with is that the items that they took I got a total of $97 back. The other items that they didn't take were damn near brand new or never worn. They didn't even bother taking them. Some of the items I bought from there they wouldn't take them back. Mind you, the condition I bought the items in were the same exact condition I tried to return them. i have never been so confused on what exactly they except and don't except. For example, there was a NAKED Barbie doll in one of the toy bins with purple marker colored in the bangs which also looked to be cut, the shoes were NOT in mint condition and some of the toys didn't have all the pieces to it. Now I am the last person to show my ass and be disrespectful to an employee, however when I see dingy items in the store and I see what I brought in and it doesn't get taken I'm going to be pissed. I'm going to question exactly what they're looking for and question if they have ever seen the items already in the store. I had a pair of pink vans that I was NOT expecting them to take because I simply forgot to wash them beforehand and they were dirty and had a spot on them. I thought I'll try and see. You know they took those vans but wouldn't take the other items that were in really good condition?! Blew my freaking mind. Grant it I did make $97 but absolutely could have made more if they new what exactly they wanted to accept or not. To see the toys and clothes look in worse or in the same condition as the items I brought in and them not take it is absolutely ridiculous! I suggest counting the amount of items you bring in!!! They just tried to steal one of my items. I knew the exact amount and they actually tried to argue with me!! I took every single item out of their "offer bin" and counted them in front of them...BOOM I WAS RIGHT!!! To make matters worse...the employee insisted I had already "accepted the offer"...UMMM NO!!! I've sold some of my daughters clothes here maybe 3 times and I've had the same experience every time. One of them was bringing a play mat back around the counter because they weren't interested in buying it (they thought a screw was missing, but I had them look it up and they were wrong and ended up buying it) and she dropped a few of the pieces that were with the play mat and kicked them to where she was going because her hands were full. I asked if those were coming back to me and she said yes. Then I replied asking why she kicked them and she said that her hands were full. I've never shopped here but have dropped items to sell. I've never had a problem with the amount I've received for my items, they are quite reasonable in that aspect. I do remember the first time i was there to sell, the lady was very short and didnt really explain to how it all worked, as far as sifting through and having to come back to pick up. I left very unsure of the process. Most of the staff is pretty rude, and unpersonable. I have dealt with a couple of nice people, but overall their employees could use an attitude adjustment. It wouldn't kill them to get an automatic door since no one will hold a door, help you if you are pushing a stroller, or help you with the things youre carrying in. Basically if you're looking for excellent costumer service youre not gonna get it. If youre there to do what they offer, collect money for new or gently used baby crap, then this is your place. read more

Wow. I have been to a handful of different OUAC locations in two states, but this one blew my mind! I certainly wasn't expecting such a large store for Jacksonville and was really impressed. I think they have more clothes and toys than the Wilmington store, but they have less books and no play area (which I think they could REALLY use). There are two dressing rooms that are self-serve (which is nice compared to Wilmington where you have to ask to be let in). Just simply TONS of clothes organized by size and color, bathing suits, Halloween costumes, shoes, etc. I am definitely shopping here first whenever my kids need anything! read more

Usually love this store, always great to get a bargain. However the last couple of times I have been in the store has been such a mess. I was the first one in the store one morning and everything was all over the place. Sleep section they have newborn stuff in the with 24 months, stuff falling off hangers, I don't mind looking through stuff but this was too much. Also we are in the middle of a pandemic and there's notices on the doos saying mask mandate and NOT ONE member of staff had a mask on!! Wow, this is a great place if you're looking to buy and/or sell baby and kid's items. There are rows upon rows of clothes in great shape, and for VERY reasonable prices. I was looking at footed, fleece, one-piece pajamas and they were only $3.50. In addition to clothes and shoes, they have a great assortment of toys, strollers, play pens and any other type of baby gear you could possibly need. I thought the prices for everything I looked at were great. Even though they have a ton of stuff, the store was neat and organized, not cluttered at all. I came here to sell some baby items and didn't get what I was hoping to get, but it is cash-in-hand when you leave, not consignment. The process for selling is easy (no appointment) - bring your stuff to the "selling" counter and while you look around the store, they will go through your stuff and write your name on the board when they are done and you can get paid. It's that easy. This is a fabulous baby/kid's re-sale shop that I will definitely come back to for both shopping and selling. read more

I was so excited when this company came back into Jville until I went and checked the new place out by Kmart. The clothes do not look cared for most are horribly faded and stained. The average price for one of these faded stained shirts was 6-8$. I just want everyone to know that you can go Wal Mart or straight over to Kmart and get their mix and match clothing sets (usually on sale) for 5 a piece. Wal mart has Granimals brand that's usually 3.88 a piece BRAND NEW. I just don't see the point In paying almost full price for something that's been used and clearly abused.
