I grew up in Archer City, Larry McMurtry's home town. I bought the book when it first came out and it has that error that distinguishes this as the first printing. He signed both of these books when I asked him after a talk he gave. They have a signed, first edition on their website listed for $1,000!!! They could have offered me a decent price, maybe $600 for both, and still had a $500-$600 profit. This was an insult. I remember that a long time ago I brought some quality books to sell at their Dallas store. That offer was an insult also. People must be desperate to sell their books to take the pittance HPB offers for books, then marks them to half of new price regardless of condition. I've purchased books there but I realize now that they don't respect book sellers.

The price quoted was a lot with a 10 week wait! But after they explained what repair entailed and what to look for when purchasing a BIble that lasts, I understood. I didn't get the name of the person that spoke to me, but she had excellent customer service skills and she used them, taking time to explain the process so very kindly. I decided to just buy the kid a new Bible (one not glued, but sown together, her recommendation) but if I ever need a book repair service, they will surely get my business. It's a great place for date night. It also has a bar/cafe which is a little weird when you add in the ambiance of the restaurant. It was like two competing environments - quite dinner vs chaos of a coffee house. The food over all was good. We enjoyed the mussels, brussels, and tomato basil soup. The pasta I ordered, while flavorful, was over cooked and slathered in too much sauce, in my opinion. The meatballs were ok, but I've had better. Staff was nice, friendly, and attentive. They checked in on us while still giving us time and privacy for a quiet dinner. I would love to just spend the day reading here given the vibes.
