What an interesting store Once a Tree was. Of course I followed my wife in as she was looking to by a wind charm she has had her eye on for several years. Yes, it takes my wife a long time to make a decision.

Obsessed with this place. They have a well curated collection of beautiful home decor type items (lots of lamps, decorative bowls, vases, etc. made out of wood and stone), jewelry, candles/soaps and an extensive funky kitchen accessory section (rubber sponges, granite taps for fancy wine/liquor dispensing, etc.). Really cute dishes, too! They usually have good sale items right in the center so make sure to check that area out.

Once A Tree is a gift shop in Camden that's so nice I actually bought something there! It's a present for my sister so I don't want to say what it is, but she's hard to buy for and I think she'll like it. For what it's worth, I thought everybody working in the store was really friendly.

A sign by a display of wooden bowls stresses that they're functional as well as beautiful and are made to be used.

This store is off-putting and misrepresents itself. The door states that it sells a few types of…read moreitems, including antiques. There were not really any true antiques in the store except for a few old porcelain vases (that also could easily have been repros). I felt like that was a misrepresentation for sure. That aside, the store carries some good/ok products - mostly baby toys such as Mon Ami stuffies, which I have now seen in a few places. Some of the art was antique-ish, antique, or at least decent, but didn't always have obvious labels or ages (and was clearly a mix). The staff weren't particularly friendly, but there was some signage which put me off. Upon entering the store, there is a no food or drink sign (normal), but also a sign that you must hold your child's hand if under like 11 years old, which rubbed me wrong. Especially given much of the content of the store. "You break it you buy it" would be more fitting. Additionally, there were no photo or videos signs in the store. It overall felt quite aggressive and with the assumption of ill intent or impact by customers.

The two proprietors of this store are so rude that it's laughable. Truly SNL caricatures of the ultimate snobs. I can't imagine ever buying a thing from them. I've gone in just to show people how awful the service is. Amazing how they've stayed in business!

Shops like this can sometimes be tacky and touristy but Sugar Tools keeps things more on the interesting and good quality side of the equation. It's a fun place to browse. Yesterday I bought a wooden frog that comes with a wooden stick. If you hold the frog in an open palm and hit it gently with the stick, it makes a croaking sound like an actual frog would. I bought this for a friend with whom I share a frog affinity... we have a personal funny story about frogs that goes back years so whenever we see frog related things in our travels we buy them for each other. Visit Sugar Tools when you're next in Camden. I think you'll be glad you did.

It's a real treasure with unique home goods, accessories and clothing. And every time I'd vacation in Camden, it would be my first go-to place. However, recently when I ordered a gift online, they sent it to me instead of the recipient. No biggie. Life happens. But when I called Amy to explain the situation, she seemed perplexed as how to solve the problem and passed me on to her assistant. All I wanted was a UPS label so I could send the gift merrily on its way. Instead I was instructed to return the item before they could ship out a replacement. And it took 5 calls to accomplish that. Seriously? I've been in retail for many years and that just isn't how it's done. Making the customer satisfied should be paramount. Months later, I still have a bitter taste in my mouth... that even their Frontier Maple Syrup can't sweeten.
