It's larger than it looks and has some of the nicest souvenirs I saw walking the Main Street. Mugs, clothing, toys, magnets, lobster-themed items galore. The Smiling Cow was one such place, and like with everything she wrote, she was spot-on accurate with her assessments. I have two grandchildren, so all shopping is based on what to buy THEM. Not me or my husband, not my daughters or son-in-law, but my grandchildren. So, of course, I made my way to the stuffed animals and Christmas ornaments where I was able to find some things to buy. Very cute things. I wish my back didn't start aching, or I would've likely bought more things. I guess that's a good reason to return some day. One can hope.

The Acadia Corporation owns and runs eight different individual stores in the Bar Harbor area that collectively are referred to as "Acadia Shops." This specific review is for the two story "Acadia Shop" located at 85 Main Street. Because the Acadia Corporation is running many stores in Bar Harbor stuff really starts to look the same from store to store but the Acadia Shop stood out to me because upstairs they had some local art and quality LL Bean gear. I enjoyed looking at the prints and notecards from local artists. Also, on a cold and rainy day it was nice to peruse lots of warm and cozy jackets and zip-ups from LL Bean. Downstairs was more souvenir-y like t-shirts, magnets, signs, candy, etc.

There's Maine-themed stuff, Maine-made stuff, ocean themed stuff, baby stuff, kitschy stuff, women's clothing, books, bags, candles, mugs, jewelry, and so, so much more. From my limited experience, they also really bring the holidays to life here, so if you were to visit around Easter it would be "dressed-up" differently than if you visited around Halloween. It makes you want to come back because... what seasonal gifties might you find?! A tiny chick-still-in-the-shell stuffed animal or an adorable bat print onesie? Depends on when you come. When I first came it was just to browse (I get the sense that if you wanted to visit, and reeeeaaaaally take your time just looking around, that would be totally okay!), but ended up buying 1) a really sturdy metal hair clip (that I was promised wouldn't break like all the plastic ones do) in white pearlescent and gold, and 2) *the cutest* retro, 90's-like, multi-strand necklace in pink cord, gold chain, and little cubes. Hard to describe, but it gives Taylor Swift Friendship Bracelet vibes. This warm and inviting place is one you really have to come see for yourself. Say hi to owner Hannah, she's positively lovely!
