I went into the store just to look, not intending to buy anything. But, I left the store with a set of mixing bowls, a kitchen accessory, and a necklace for my for my daughter-in-law. What helped me buy? * All products were MADE IN THE USA. Really. * The store was easy to shop. Items were placed where you could handle them; prices were clearly marked; and the selection was sufficient, without being overwhelming. * The prices were very reasonable. I googled the items before I bought, and Conklin's was equal to the best price on-line, and better than many retailers. * The owners were on-site; knew their products; and gave great, personal customer service. I'll drive by the stores and shops in Rockland and Camden to experience Conklin's again. read more

We traveled for a week throughout Maine and found this store to be a dissapointment before even entering. We travelled with a small puppy i was holding in my arms as courtesy when entering all the stores we visited and 99% of store owners were friendly and welcomed us inside. When we were about to enter this store a man gestured rudely with his hand shooing us due to the puppy i was holding in my arms. I respect rules set forward by business owners and understand if a dog is not allowed however it is unacceptable to treat potential buying customers in such a nasty way. Given my experience and the other negative reviews i can confirm this is not a pleasant place to shop. read more

Made a brief stop into the shop and was attracted to a box of cards. When paying for them, the gentleman at the counter announced that the cards were produced in New Hampshire. I asked, oh, not from Maine? That prompted him to opine that nothing is made in Maine, and encouraged his female co-worker to add "Except sneakers maybe, and those are probably made in China." It seems to me that a shopkeeper in a town with a tourist economy has no business proffering unsolicited critiques of the state. As a Mainer who lives in the Camden area, I found this episode to be inappropriate, unnecessary, and rude. read more

Woman and man at counter absolutely nasty when my wife and I walked in without masks. Yelled at us to get out of their store immediately. Save your money and go somewhere where you are treated like a person not a criminal. Very snobbish, snooty and just downright rude owners, you would think they would be nicer when trying to peddle overpriced goods. read more

This is a beautiful store, but the owner is mean and rude. That's why I give it a 1. I went in to share with him the city's annual Street Party plan and he started yelling at me, followed me out of the store still yelling. It took me an hour and a shot of whiskey to stop shaking. I've never been verbally attacked like that and it is very unpleasant. Belfast is a friendly, loving community and his attitude just doesn't fit here. My husband and I entered the store browsing for a few minutes. I was immediately jumped on by the proprietor for "touching a calendar ". A few minutes later a gentleman identifying himself as the owner, tersely told my husband his mask was not sufficient to his liking( face shield) and told him to leave. I had items in my hand to buy and he came up to me, took the items from my hand, and told me to leave. It was quite rude and unsettling. Would never recommend stepping inside this store for ANY reason. EVER. read more

My husband and I purchased a Dory Boat Basket here during our visit to Camden last week. Garry could not have been nicer. He is clearly passionate about the products he sells. He was knowledgeable and friendly and shared many stories about the crafters of the products in his shop. It was lovely to speak with him and to support a business that supports the makers of fine products made in the USA. While I was in the store today the owner began cursing and yelling a customer. It was frightening and he became so angry that he started shaking. After he began that behavior myself and all of the other customers in the store promptly left and definitely won't be going back in. In addition to the bad temper of the owner of the store, all of his products, contrary to popular belief, are not made in the USA: some of his platters are from Mexico. I strongly would not recommend going into the store. read more

My family of four (myself, my husband, and two boys 10 and 12) wandered into this store on a quiet weekday afternoon to browse. Our boys are well traveled and well behaved; my husband and I are physicians and born and raised in the US (of Asian descent). We're overall a pretty calm, respectful family and had just enjoyed shopping in several other stores in Belfast. We walked in and I immediately sensed hostility from the female shopkeeper. After a couple minutes I pointedly said hello asked her how she was since she was so unfriendly. She tersely replied "Fine" and continued to glare at us. At one point my 12-year-old son saw a pewter gas candlestick and turn the knob to increase the flame. She suddenly jumped up and started yelling at him not to touch. He had certainly not broken anything amd was doing what many an adult might do. She proceeded to be extremely rude and we vacated the shop as quickly as possible. It was unclear why she was so hostile; our kids weren't doing anything unruly. Perhaps she was uncomfortable having customers of another race in the store? The items in the store were unique but definitely not worth the experience of having our entire family so denigrated. I do not recommend you walk into this store under any circumstance. read more
