Over the last few years, The Duchess of Markham has been a reliable spot for a good Irish Pub!…read more I can always count on them for a good time with friends while watching a soccer or hockey game while enjoying classic Irish pub fare! The Bangers and Mash is a classic representation as it hits home with the blend between perfectly grilled sausage with mashed potatoes and onion gravy! The Guiness Lamb Stew is also perfect for the winter as the lamb is nicely cooked with the root vegetables and does enjoy well with a slice of bread!

Location: Main Street Markham…read more Parking: There's some on street parking, but good luck with that. Half a block away there's a huge free lot! Decor: Send an old Tudor looking building. The inside looks like a pub. A pub that hasn't been decorated since the 1980s. I know it can't be the original carpet but it hasn't been replaced in a while. There is a nice big bar some seating around it and then the dining area is separated by half wall. It's a smaller space but comfortable. There's tables. They set it up in twos and fours. There is a fireplace and it's nice and cozy to sit by there on a cold day. What's kind of cool is when the kegs come in, the building is really old so the floor shakes is the kegs roll in. The food: Typical pub fair. It's good. I wouldn't call it generously portioned but a proper serving. Lunch time there is always a chicken wing special. They're pretty good. I do like the fish and chips. Staff: Everyone's always nice. I don't know if they have a lot of stuff or if they just go through stuff but they're always seems to be different people every time I go. I don't know how they manage hire all the really nice people but they do! Will I be back? Of course I will I come all the time

My wife and I went to Smash Kitchen and Bar, and we had a generally good experience…read more The staff are friendly, the wait time for food was 13 minutes (yep, I time it), the food tasted great (we split the truffle mushroom baked eggs for the main, and Cathy's chocolate banana bread for dessert). Overall, a very pleasant experience. They only lost a point because there was an egg shell in our meal.

Smashing good brunch?…read more Smash Kitchen has been on our list to visit for a while till we finally had the opportunity. For more than a dozen years, this Markham spot has been known for good flavors and portions. The weekend brunch menu from 10am - 2:45pm had an assortment of creative dishes. We opted for their LA mac & cheese ($25) with a saucy cheese blend textured by herb crumbles. The soft shell crab benedict ($24) looked irresistible with two nicely poached eggs beside crab drizzled with maple buffalo hot sauce. While it came with no sides, bites of the whole fried soft shell crab on brioche toast were scrumptious. The inside of this restaurant is cavernous, featuring even a private room and patio. It's much larger than the dated plaza entrance would indicate. Staff were generally active at the tables, even delivering colour sheets to young ones. Skip it or hit it? It was a long time coming but brunch here didn't disappoint. Hit it!

We were seated right behind the front desk, yet it felt like we were invisible. Even when I waved or called out, it took ages for anyone to acknowledge us. Everyone was polite when they finally came over, but it shouldn't take all night just to get a glass of water. In fact, my water never ended up getting refilled at all, even after asking twice. Toward the end of the night, a different server approached us, offered to show the dessert menu, and asked us to leave a 5-star review because they were doing some kind of competition. She said she'd comp our dessert, so we decided to go for it. Then she disappeared for about 15 minutes, and when she finally came back, the dessert wasn't actually comped. We were there for about two hours, but between two entrées, one drink, and one dessert, it easily could've been a one-hour visit if the service was more attentive. Overall, not the experience I was hoping for. Needless to say, I deleted my 5star review at the end of the night.

Initially we were going for the idea of breakfast, but timing was a bit off from what we anticipated and it was a really nice lunch date instead. I love the Markham Marriott, the staff is always warm and welcoming. Draco has a very sleek, sophisticated and cozy atmosphere. We both ordered Bacon & Cheddar burgers. I opted for a Caesar salad as an appetizer and hubby ordered their Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron Steak. Let's start with the apps. The Caesar salad was SO good! I wish I had taken a pic, but admittedly, my phone was tucked away and I was caught up in the cozy seating, great food and Christmas vibes of the restaurant and lobby. Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron Steak: $33 - Buttercup Squash Puree and Truffle Oil - Everything you want Wagyu to be - tender, cooked to the perfect temp which left a nice warm red centre. This was melt in your mouth good! The burgers - these were perfection! Draco Bacon Cheddar Burger: $25 - Aged Cheddar with Crispy Bacon Strips; Crispy Onion Straws, Arugula and Garlic Aioli. This was a very well seasoned patty, so juicy and a substantial sized patty of fresh not frozen beef. The bun was lightly toasted, bacon crispy, easily taking this into my top 3 fav spots for burgers! Options for sides include fries, sweet potato fries, poutine, side Caesar or garden salad or truffle fries. We finished off our meal with 2 really good cappuccinos and just took our time before heading home. This was our first time back here in a few years. The food was exceptional as was the service and the warm staff. Draco is the perfect spot for an early morning breakfast, work or lunch date or a nice cozy dinner. They also have Christmas & New Years dinners and brunches. Relax in the restaurant with drinks or in the adjacent lounge, this is a great spot to unwind with some great food and drinks.

They all came with a side of their golden fries. The garlic parm and honey garlic wings were decent. Flavours were okay, but the wings weren't juicy or plump. We made a reservation for 12 noon; we arrived a little early at which time it was fairly barren of customers inside, with a few tables taken on their patio. The venue has a raised/upper seating section in the middle and booth seating around the perimeter and the walls are inundated with typical pub decor. We chose to sit at a booth and Mom and my brother both ordered their turkey dinner for lunch which comes with turkey, potatoes and veggies, etc. (see 2nd pic.). I ordered one of their three all day breakfast offerings, The Arms Breakfast with 3 eggs (I chose scrambled), strip bacon, peameal bacon or sausage (I chose the latter), baked beans, home fries and toast (I chose whole wheat) (1st pic.). The home fries were possibly the most delicious I can recall ever having, with the sausages close behind in quality. The beans, eggs and toast were great. It appeared my brother enjoyed his meal as he finished his plate; Mom only half finished her plate but that was due to the large portion sizes and she took the remainder home for dinner. The service was prompt and we had a very enjoyable experience.

Chicken souvlaki on pita with small Greek salad: 4/5 The chicken was tender and had good flavour. I found the filling toppings a little sparse. The salad was fine - average. A good enough eat. For the dog, they also brought a bowl of water. Service was a bit lacking. Once we received our check-in on the food, our server disappeared and was very hard to get assistance. No water refill and couldn't even find to get our bill. We had to ask the host to find the server for the bill. Washroom is downstairs and clean.

There was only one server serving all the tables. Not sure how many cooks were in the kitchen, but we waited a very long time for our food. Even getting our bill was a wait. Every question we had about the bill, the server had to ask the manager. We wanted to clarify if it was half price wings on Tuesday because they were charging us for full price, and also why we got charged an extra drink, since we thought it was unlimited refills. Each time the server went back to ask, we had to wait another 5 minutes. From asking for the bill, to finally paying, that took about 20 mins. Make sure you double check your bill!!! The server didn't punch in half price, charged us for an extra drink, and wanted to charge us for the full price if we didn't notice.

There's nothing wrong with the restaurant but also nothing spectacular. I did think it was tad dirty in the restaurant, tables were not the cleanest and booth seats definitely had crumbs on them. There's a huge selection of flavours for your wings and I always opt for the brown eyed girl which is honey garlic with some mystery seasoning. It's good and does hit the spot, but it's not the most amazing wings you can get out there. Can get them breaded with sauce or dry based on your preference. Overall, a good cheap option for wings and beer if you're in the mood for that.
