I used to work in Assinippi Park years ago and our office team would order from On Rye regularly (1993-2007). Today I stopped on a whim to grab my favorite from back then, the Oriental Chicken Salad. Back then the chicken was more strips and it was served with a zinfandel vinaigarette. It was an absolute fan fav for our company. Bit different now, the chicken is shredded but still yummy, wish it was more strips though...hard to adjust to pulled chicken in a salad. Dressing is now a Lite Paris, which has great flavor...but I used the zin vin I had at home. Trip down memory lane eating lunch, I will be back...so happy On Rye is still thriving after all this time, it is a solid spot! read more

Have not been here for a little while. But went today for a sandwich. Had the Hot Pastrami Special on pumperknickle. Well they nailed it. Great sandwhich. Walking out they thanked us for coming in. Awesome. I've had consistently great sandwiches from On Rye Deli and I have no idea how this place has an overall rating below 4 stars. I recently ordered a liverwurst sandwich which I hadn't had in decades and wow, it was just delicious! It honestly brought back great memories of childhood sandwiches made by my 1/4-German mom. For those few pics of a bland sandwich or salad, maybe that's what you ordered? I imagine some dishes start out that way for the few customers who actually prefer bland? For almost 20 years, my family and I have enjoyed sandwiches from the On Rye Deli. Mostly, the Tuna Melt on butter-toasted Rye. All those Tuna Melts were considered truly the best warm sandwich around. However today, I tried something different, a cold Roast Beef with Swiss Cheese on a Scala roll. OMG that was maybe the best Roast Beef I can recall eating. Like something from a photograph, the meat was red rare, but not bloody. And they weren't cheap with the amount of Roast Beef. My friend ordered the Chicken Salad on a Scala Roll too and he finished his sammie before I did. Normally, he is a slow eater but he wolfed that Chicken Salad down. I am getting hungry writing this and will probably need to re-visit the On Rye Deli soon. Maybe tomorrow. It is that good. read more

On Rye is solid! The guy running the place is a madman making sure everything is as efficient as possible. The only issue is the busy lunch hours lol. The sandwiches are awesome, especially ones the make up that I've never seen before like the BBQ Turkey. That is a tasty sandwich. We stopped in for lunch Wednesday it was busy I ordered Chili drink and a cookie I waited as the cashier took orders I watched as he put his dirty gloves he was taking money in with he put in my to go bowl three times as he moved it around. Service here seems to have gone downhill. Or maybe its the attention to detail. I've been ordering lunch here for the past two years. I'll admit, I'm boring, I ALWAYS order the same thing... chicken salad on white with lettuce and extra pickles. The last 3 orders I've received have been wrong. I need to tell you a great story about the owner of this fabulous deli. First of all, if you are looking for the best deli menu this side of NYC, it is here! As you may or may not know, I am a big proponent of Public Transportation and often go to my clients offices by bus, train or taxi. On any given day I do all three plus walk to fit in my exercise. The night before I usually map out where I am going and try to find Points of Interest, just in case I get to my appointment early. Last night I did not do the usual prep for where could I grab breakfast of coffee, knowing that I would be at least 1 hour early. Today, as I got to my appointment early, and not knowing much about the area, I arrived at the open door of this deli at 7:50 am thinking it may not be open. As it turns out, It wasn't open yet for business but the owner welcomed me in and put on a pot of coffee. Turns out he was in early preparing for a large order for later. He then offered me a bagel (Parmesan) which was delicious and told me he appreciated the company as he worked. What stands out the most to me was his willingness to be helpful as well as kind as he was right in the middle of his preparations. We waited a really long time for our lunch so I was pretty much put off by this place before I even started eating. My salad was average. I don't remember exactly what it was called but it was a special that day and it was a green salad with cranberries, toasted cashews (yuck, I picked them off one by one - I thought it said almonds on the menu) and chicken salad. Though the taste of the chicken salad was good, it was the kind of chicken salad that has no chunks at all but is more like the consistency of paste. Not a fan of that texture. My husband had a roast beef sandwich which looked to me to be positively average. Some of the hot menu items sounded great so I do think we may have had better luck had we gone that route. read more

This is located in the Rite Aid Plaza. On Rye Deli takes quite a few phone orders so you might not get acknowledged right away when you walk in. They usually have a couple people who make sandwiches and 3 or 4 people who take phone orders, bag up the orders and work the counter. I like that the people who make food don't handle money. There are 2 lines- one for placing an order and the other for picking up a phone order. If you want a bottled drink get it out of the refrigerator before you get in line. They also have fountain sodas. Seating is at small tables and the vibe here is that people need to eat and get back to work. There are a couple of outside tables on the sidewalk but the view is of the parking lot. Recommended orders would be tuna fish on marble rye, turkey sandwich, egg salad on dark rye, meatball sub. In true deli style they serve pickles with every sandwich. Chicken Waldorf salad is awesome but it's only available as a weekly special. They offer two ways to get a discount- you can get a menu faxed to you once a week that has a coupon on it or you can get a card that they punch every visit and when it's full you get a free sandwich. Quirky charm- their menu is obviously printed by a company that prints church bulletins. read more

Anytime I see the word 'Deli', I sit up and take notice. I was driving through Norwell earlier and saw that sign...the Deli sign... immediately, I need a Rueben... bad. What a treat, excellent and plentiful corned beef, the kraut was not over powering as some can be. The topper was their (home-made I assume), Russian dressing. Sprinkled in, just a touch of fresh sweet Vidalia onions. Excellent sandwich, came with a 1/2 pickle too...Too bad I live in Braintree, nothing like that here.. I come here just about everyday for lunch during the week and I have absolutely never been disappointed. I've had just about half their menu and my go to is the tuna melt on marble rye. PERFECT! No fillers or too much mayo, just right! They also know me by name and greet me every time I walk in the door. I popped in yesterday for a chicken club sandwich on dark rye bread. Perhaps it's because, rather than devour this sandwich immediately, I placed it in the fridge to save it for later. Perhaps it may have been the sandwich was not well made. Perhaps the chicken was over cooked. Perhaps it was the fact that the bread was cut smaller than the ingredients placed inside. Bottom line the chicken club sandwich was a major disappointment!!! Certainly it was not worth $9.00!! May i suggest a trip to Rosa Farms now there is sandwich to die for...NOT cry for. Turkey Club is OK but skip the mac n cheese. I have to agree with other reviews about excessive wait times for orders. I, too sensed a bias towards making the take out orders ahead of other orders. We just waited 20 minutes for a turkey club and the mac n cheese. The club was tasty, with plenty of meat and fresh bread. "Homemade" mac n cheese? I doubt it. It's served in a small microwavable plastic container not unlike a Stouffer's entree. And it tasted like a Stouffer's, with tomato slices and some cheese added. I will never return. The food was overpriced and not good. It wasn't clean. We might as well have thrown our money away. One person asked if they could have the chicken parm without the roll and with their pasta salad instead and the answer was "no." No one else was in the restaurant and there were two people working who could not be bothered to think outside the box. They didn't seem happy to have costumers. They had no egg salad, no baked potatoes, no mac and cheese, no specials on weekends but they were hanging, and the chicken salad had too much mayo. The peanut butter and jelly was overpriced. Today I attended a baby shower which On Rye Deli catered. The service, food and presentation was amazing. Everything arrived fresh, to include cold items arrived cold and hot items arrived hot. All set with this place .every time I have gone the people at the counter are miserable and act like you are bothering them . I wasn't given a number when I called in my food and the lady today seemed irritated she had to look for it . The previous times I have been the others at the counter were also miserable . Too.bad the service is so unfriendly because The sandwiches aren't that bad. A co.worker of mine had got take out and they confirmed her sandwich . She got back.to the office and it was wrong . She callled and they basically said oh sorry. They didn't offer to deliver a correct one seeing as they have delivery , didn't offer to get her a free sandwich next time .
