I regularly used to drive past and see only a couple of diners in there, and assume isn't was fine, but not great (there's three other thai places within a kilometre, so it's got some competition!) . However, it seems to have gotten more and more popular, and was basically full the night we went (here was me thinking we wouldn't need to worry about booking!). The food was really good, so obviously its popularity has increased for a reason. I had a basil chicken dish, which was just the right amount of spicy, and so fresh tasting. The others were well-pleased with their curry choices also - they came in generous sizes with rice on the side. It's BYO, and I think it's something crazy cheap like $2 a person corkage, so that's a nice feature. We stayed and chatted so long that we got serious food envy seeing lots of plates of deep fried icecream come out of the kitchen, so decided to get on that bandwagon. A great choice. Definitely only a sometimes food, and definitely cancels out what was otherwise a fairly healthy dinner, but so worth it. The staff were friendly, though we did have to wait sometime before they took our order, and they perhaps could have a been a touch more attentive with water/asking if we wanted dessert, but overall we had a great time. Would definitely return.

I was taken to Thai Issan on a date, and was really amazed by the beautiful decor, and the climbing Hoya plant that spiraled all around the room. Creates a sense of exoticness about the place. The food is sensational, I would recommend dining in over takeaway any day, so you get the luxury of the experience. Service was kind, and generous. My mouth waters as I try to describe the taste sensations you will experience at Issan, some favorites of mine are Pad Priew Waan Pla which you can have mild or hot, which is Gurnard fillet in a stir fry with a lovely sweet and sour sauce accompanied by pineapple, tomatoes and cucumber or Gang Dang Goong, a spicy hot tiger prawn in coconut milk, and red curry with lychee. Exquisite taste sensations, you will get hot and sweet together and these will blow you away. Be sure to enjoy some Thai beer or Bring your own wine, and toast to this Thai culinary delight.

Prices aren't extravagant, but neither is the food. Walking along Birkenhead Avenue, Mulan stood out as something that would otherwise have belonged in the hip and upcoming Mt Albert scene with Chinoiserie, Kiss Kiss and L'Oeuf. Casually embellished with thick knotted ropes around the entrance and on the ceiling of the dining area, the setting is thoughtfully simple. Without calling on famous interior designers, it was enough to elevate the dining experience up a step. I came for a late long lunch with a particular craving for Thai food. Thai and Vietnamese cuisine are always high on my favourites. Maybe not so much for coriander haters (who apparently blame it on genetics for this inexcusable pickiness). As a first step to tame the insatiable hunger, we had the Mama's special of steamed buns with sticky pork. Two really weren't enough between two people! The bun was thinner than I wanted but it was bouncy and the flavours were saturated into the meat. As recommended by another foodie I ordered Golden Shield - sweet and spicy squid, flash fried with chili jam and kaffir lime. If you love strong flavours, it is a must order! The combination of sweet, spicy and sour was punchy and appetising. Along with the chicken jungle curry, we easily demolished two bowls of coconut rice with the spicy kick. If you are a spice wimp like me, I recommend staying firm on ordering "mild". As a local, I'd love to go back. It's my type of hangout: casual with tasty food. Thumbs up!

We recently ordered takeouts and were more than impressed. In fact, we were rather angry that we hadn't been sooner - after all, it's only 5mins down the road. Shame on us! It's hard to choose, but our favourite dish was the Kapitan chicken. It was beautifully cooked in a well-balanced, aromatic sauce and served with light fluffy rice. Our only complaint was that there was enough to sauce to mop up with the buttery roti! Special mention must also be made of the Mee Goreng, which was packed full of flavour and had just the right amount of heat. I added a liberal squeeze of lemon to mine and it was seriously good. For $13, the portion was extremely generous - we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. I am rather looking forward to my next visit. Hopefully we will be dining in because the interior of this place is delightful - full of brightly coloured decorations with plenty of sparkles!

It really feels like you're in Malaysia though I've never been, but at least transported to somewhere different. It's warm and the dim lighting creates an intimate, cosy atmosphere. Great service as well. The Kung-po squid came in a long fish dish with vegetables, dried chilli and sauteed squid. Great for seafood lovers. We got the Langkawi fish special which was nice and fresh with lemon, lemon grass and coriander. Beware of the Hot Babi Pedas, as I thought I had a high tolerance for spicy but this was still Hot with a capital H. Pork slices with vegetables and cooked with cumin, fresh chilli and other spices that make you feel like you're going to breathe fire. Nasi lemak is purple fragrant coconut rice which I adore but if you're more inclined to classic, they have plain steamed rice as well. Great order on the side of the curry as well as their flaky Chanai flatbread. Food is yum, decor is absolutely wonderful. Must see

A previous review below got me hankering for it. Was not dissapointed. Even though they were busy the staff were very friendly and attentive and the food made it out in lighting quick time! Hash browns looked hand made with great texture, thickness and flavor. Egg was runny and was absorbed well into the 2 fluffy ciabatta pieces of bread. Bacon was crispy but not overcooked and there was enought to have a good chunk with every delicious fork full. If I had any gripe it was only a small one & was with the avocado. Was borderline raw but they can be hard to gauge especially when cooking en volume and under the gun so no points lost there. Will be back here for sure. The list on the menu deserves a good trial & if my first experiance is emulated I am sure this will be good eats!

We said ok, so are we getting it replaced ? She looked shocked, said nothing and grabbed the owner. He said, no you didnt tell us you wanted it replaced. I said yes please because I am very hungry. He said no itll taste the same. so we said ok well we dont want to pay for it, he then got angry and said, yes you will pay half...(for a bite of a yuck burger and about 4chips) I said politely I'm sorry but no I will not pay for that. He said, No you've eaten half (a bite and a few chips of a $20 meal is half .. not) you pay half shaking his head and angriying his eyes. I got really frustrated and said no, you are being very disrespectful I come here almost every week and this is how I get treated?! I said I'm walking out without paying a cent so he says...ok ok ok I'll only charge you for one meal and your 2 cokes and your 2 teas which totals $42. I paid it and trust me I will never go back! I didnt click...but the asshole charged me half the meal acting like he didnt. The Indian owner needs to go to a customer service course and have proper qualified chefs. Such a shame because they have 2 really lovely waitresses. He should not own a cafe.
