My better half mentioned that her colleagues raved about this restaurant a fair bit for after-work…read moredo's...but I was less than impressed. Somehow the missus managed to convince me to give it a go with a 3-course dinner voucher and I couldn't say no! Firstly, the menu - it left me a bit bamboozled as to How can a bar and grill have Chicken Masala with Roti?? It's just unfair to the Indian cuisine! Then the serving size - I felt short changed when it came to just 4 prawns with a runny sauce and some salad leaves - $16! See picture - the taste was alright and the prawns were cooked well - but flavours lacked punch. I hoped the oven roasted Salmon fillet with risotto would revive their dwindling reputation but again - lack of seasoning and a thin strip of salmon with a soggy skin failed to excite - $28.50! By now our hopes for an epic dessert were shattered and we picked the simplest of options for our sweet tooth - what was presented was again something I could probably cook up in my sleep - not thy there was any cooking involved but at $10.50 a pop - the lemon curd and kiwi fruit tart was straight out of the countdown cold dessert aisle with plain jane tip top vanilla ice cream scoops on top some slices of oranges n kiwi fruit and a few grapes with strawberry syrup in a floral pattern - DO NOT A DESSERT MAKE! I fail to understand how restaurants can get away with pricing like this - I think we were served smaller than usual portions as well owing to the voucher. Rest assured - the Takapuna branch of Buffalo Bar n Grill left nothing more to write about. The pictures will speak for themselves. Avoid.

Highly recommend you give this place a wide detour. For ribs on the North Shore try "deep creek" or "bushmans grill", for good general dining "the Patio" is nearby.

The salmon nigiri and eel nigiri were great. Salmon was fresh, and they were on point with the eel to rice ratio. For pick your own sushi I usually tend to steer clear from ones that are wrapped in seaweed, unless it was just made, as the seaweed is always soggy from sitting there for a while. In terms of cooked meals, the spicy chicken katsu don was delicious. It was missing spice but the chicken was tender and coating was perfect. We also tried the pork curry don. The pork was very dry (get chicken instead) but we enjoyed the curry itself. They do small donburis for $8 which is great if you are wanting to have some sides too - highly recommend. Our favourite has to be the tempura. It's $9 for a small and $14 for a large with assorted veges and prawn. The veges were super sweet (kumara, pumpkin, long beans, onion) we actually enjoyed them over the prawns which is definitely a first for seafood lovers like us. The batter was just right, not too thick and not overcooked. They provide tempura sauce unlike some sushi places that just give you soy sauce. The staff there are also super friendly and food comes out quickly. There is lots of seating both inside and out. Will definitely be getting tempura and chicken katsu before hitting the Takapuna shops next time we are in the area and craving Japanese!

For reals, this place rolls out some fresh to death sushi!…read more Normally I find it hard to get excited about sushi but this place is next level. The ingredients they use are incredibly fresh - no slimy salmon or limp cucumber here. Not to mention their topping to rice ratio is unreal and they don't stinge on the avo. I am huge fan of their vege roll - packed full of carrot, cabbage, capsicum and the like. Warning: The lines here at lunch times can get a little daunting but don't let that deter you - these guys operate like a well-oiled machine. Simply grab your box and tongs, choose your sushi and pay - in and out in 5 mins tops!

We ordered a medium Steamboat (55) which says it's for 2~3 people. Well, this was an overestimation as four of us couldn't finish it. We received a boiling bowl with two sides of spicy and non-spicy broth but they soon got mixed together when food was put. We started by putting in the meat and seafood followed by vegetables (as veges get cooked faster!). Noodle went in last as you should enjoy it with the broth full of beef and seafood flavour. The waiter was happy to top up our broth as we ran out. The great thing about the Steamboat is that you can taste a variety of food including mushrooms, prawn, fish cakes and so much more at once. You can also control how long the meat/veges are cooked as you can simply pick them up and eat it when you like it. Everything was delicious and the soup really healed me :p The ginger and lemongrass condiment wasn't my thing so I made my own by mixing chili sauces.

Definitely recommend buying the medium size unless you're starving or feeding boys/men. Got a group table in the outdoor portion of the restaurant. It is a neat wooden patio just next door to the four walled main interior with a makeshift material roof and front wall cover that does well to protect from the elements. Luckily they had a tall heater in the middle so we were protected from the cold night temperatures as well. Was surprised by how busy it was- both sections were fairly full and it got more packed as the evening went on. I can see why- the steam boat was a fun way to eat dinner and there was great things to put in - octopus, mussels, tofu, thin sliced beef, cabbage, rice noodles- to name a few. Liked the split steam boat bowl with two different soups- one spicy, one plain- and to be able to have two steam boats going at the same time and no extra waiting. Great sauces on the side to mix- with a green paste, bbq sauce, hot sauce and very spicy red peppers, beware. Definitely recommend the steamboat. Curious to try the cooked dishes and their dessert menu at another time.

We came here for a Mother's Day family dinner with 7 adults and 1 child, expecting a nice evening…read moretogether. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the worst dining experiences we've had in Auckland. We arrived shortly after 6pm and placed our order. After waiting nearly an hour with no food at all, we asked multiple times where our meals were. Staff repeatedly told us "it's coming soon" and "they are making it now." During the wait, we were told: - the beef chow mein had no beef available and needed to be changed to chicken chow mein - the fish fillet vegetable dish was "too complicated" and suggested to be cancelled We agreed politely. Then things became even more confusing: - they brought us a dish we never ordered - shortly after, the exact fish dish they claimed they could not make suddenly arrived - the "unavailable" beef chow mein also suddenly appeared The entire service felt disorganised and chaotic. The biggest issue, however, was the food safety concern. Several dishes appeared undercooked: - the fish fillets were extremely soft and partially raw inside - the prawns inside the prawn balls were still translucent/raw - the beef inside the fried rice was still red/raw in the middle We brought the food to the front desk and showed the owner/manager directly. Instead of apologising, she insisted the food was "fully cooked." There was no genuine apology or concern shown throughout the entire experience. By this point it was already close to 8:30pm -- we had been there for almost 2.5 hours. At around 7pm+, when the first dish finally arrived, we were already so hungry that we had to cut and eat our Mother's Day cake early just to have something in our stomachs while waiting for the rest of the food. Another concerning moment was when I tried to take a photo of the raw prawn ball for evidence. A waitress immediately rushed over and removed the dish before I could finish taking the photo, telling me that I was "not allowed" to photograph it. I still managed to take photos of: - the raw/red beef - partially uncooked fish fillets It honestly looked like frozen ingredients had not been fully defrosted before cooking. The restaurant was not even full, and multiple tables that arrived after us had already finished and left while we were still waiting for food. After returning home, nobody was even properly full. We ended up stopping at McDonald's on the way back just to buy burgers because after waiting for hours, we still barely had enough to eat. My partner later experienced mild food poisoning symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea. We have already submitted a food hygiene complaint to Auckland Council regarding the undercooked seafood and meat. Despite all of this, there was still no proper apology, no accountability, and no meaningful compensation offered. We paid $161 cash for an extremely stressful and disappointing Mother's Day dinner. Would not return.

We went to have yumcha to celebrate our daughter's 10th birthday as a family but was advised they…read moredon't do normal yumcha and we had to order off the menu. This was the first disappointment then its their business decision so I don't have any issues. However below issues are something very serious so make sure you watch out. 1. Make sure you check every dollar they charge. It was 5 of us, two adults and 3 kids. We don't let the kids drink anything with caffeine in it so we asked for tea for two only when we were first seated and prompted. When we were checking out we found out we were charged for the tea for 5 at $1.50 each. I asked the lady what happened and she said tea is charged for all. I said I had already told you earlier we want tea for two only and asked cold water for 3 kids. Then she replied that water is $1 each. So we got our $1.50 back on this, $0.50 difference each for 3 kids. Why would they want sacrifice their reputation for a mere $1.50 is beyond my comprehension. 2. The cold water we received was delivered by a 9 or 10 year old kid. We asked her whether kids drink tea in China or Chinese people start drinking tea from young age and she said no. 3. That cold water had a tiny particle (comtanination) at the bottom of the cup. We paid $3 for some dirty contaminated water, likely tap water coming out of old rusty pipe. 4. Dumplings were way too soggy possibly left too long in the steamer. So was steamed bbq pork bun. 5. Fried rice had too much oil. Taste wasn't too bad. 6. Chicken feet and beef tripe were excellent. Siu mai was good too. 7. It was quiet so we were able to converse quietly as a family.
