Madison Street Surgery Center ordered twice the amount of eye drops that were required at $35 a bottle.! I had only one eye procedure and needed only 14 drops and yet they ordered me two bottles. One remains unopened. I have placed three calls to obtain a refund for the unused bottle and no one has even bothered to return my call! They also place their Patients at unneeded risk. They start the appointments at 6:30 a.m. and yet the office building doesn't even open until 7:00 a.m. There is no apparent Security and parking in a virtually empty garage and standing in the front of the building waiting for someone to come down and let you in is simply asking the Patient assume their risk! All of this, in light of a $550 expense for a five minute procedure tends to question if they are Patient Centric. read more

A bit of a long story here... Several years ago, I had a blocked tear duct so my tears were unable to drain. This caused my eye to excessively water. To mitigate this, a tube was surgically inserted to keep the duct open. Recently, my tear duct became blocked again and my eye was constantly watering, to the extent that it was raw from dabbing it so much. Back to the doctor again to irrigate the tube to clear out the blockage. This entails shooting saline solution through a needle directly into my tear duct (into the tube). My original doctor (who performed the surgery) was on vacation and wasn't able to treat me. I was in the process of moving out of state and needed to have this treated immediately. Because this is such a medical specialty, I would have been in dire straits trying to locate a doctor who specializes in Ophthalmologist Oculoplastics. Dr Rimer wasn't sure she could unblock my duct, but she was very persistent. The first go round didn't work. She tried again and no luck. At this point, we weren't sure we'd have success, but Dr Rimer persisted and tried it a 3rd time and it worked! My tear duct is now unblocked and my eye is no longer watering. I know this may sound trivial, but I couldn't even wear eye makeup due to this condition. Dr Rimer understood my dilemma with moving out of state and having no doctor, and even though I wasn't her patient, she worked so diligently to unblock my tear duct.. I came in for a LASIK consultation and she got offended by me asking a question to reiterate what procedure she was recommending since it differed from what my ophthalmologist recommended. Dr Wang botched my fiancés eye surgery. would not recommend this clown. she ended up with a week of migraines and no answers from Dr Wang. I had heard so many good things about this place. But, as the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. My case was mishandled from the start. I was not told how long the visit would take, ( nearly 3 hours ). I was not told that my eyes would be dilated during the visit, and that I would need someone to drive me home. I had left paperwork with them to be filled out and sent to my employer, with very clear instructions on what pages were to be sent. Only half of the paperwork was sent. An entire section of the paperwork was not completed. Lastly, the doctor forgot to sign the paperwork!! I was told that it was the end of the day, and the doctors were in a hurry to get home. I was also told that each set of paperwork is different, and that it is hard to be accurate all the time. Had the staff taken just a few seconds longer to do their job correctly, it would have saved me 6 hours, 8 phone calls, and a return trip to the center to get things fixed. I cannot recommend Spivak to anybody. read more

How many stars do I give to a doctor on the 9th anniversary of my Lasik surgery. The doctor who gave me perfect 20/20 vision. The doctor who took away thick glasses which were always sliding down my nose, getting in my way when I rode, and were needed even in the middle of the night to see what time it was. The doctor who allowed me to take out my contacts forever, those little dried out torture devices. It is pretty simple to me, 5 stars times 9 years. I'm sort of a doctor snob so when I move to a new place and have to find new doctors...ugh...what a pain. I did a LOT of research before I found Dr. Conkling here at Spivack Vision Center. I wear contacts and have an issue with dry eyes. I also have weird vision issues where my eyes can auto-correct themselves (this makes it really hard to figure out my prescription). He has been excellent from Day 1. Top Notch Doc!!! The place is also big and comfy, the receptionists and medical assistants are all so friendly and nice. I actually love going to see the eye doc. The waiting room is very large and has a play area for kids while you are waiting. You can also check out V Studio (built right in) and get your eyewear (frames) before you leave. They ship me a box of my contacts so I don't even have to go back to pick them up. Fabulous. Love Love Love. You won't go wrong!! read more

At about 40 years old my eye sight went from great to well not so good. By age 43 to 45 I started wearing reading glasses. But, I am confined to a wheelchair and my hands do not work that good so there was always marks on my glasses. I needed help cleaning them and putting them on. Which did not happen very often, so most of the time I was looking through finger prints and such. By 50, my health was not getting better along with my eyes. So I started to look into Lasik Surgery. I went to a lot of places and in my opinion, some of these places did not want to get to know you at all. It was like you were a number and your next, next, next. Others were very good, but I did not get that warm fuzzy feeling inside like I did at Spivack Vision Institute. I had the pleasure to work with Dr. Vandi W. Rimer, O.D. for my initial eye exams and she was awesome. She took the time to get to know me and my expectations. She talked to you as a person in words that I could understand. If there was something that I did not understand, she took the extra time to explain it a different way that I fully understood. This was so different from some of the other places I went to. It was determined that the best corrective surgery for me was, monovision. 1 eye to read and 1 eye for distance. I had Lasik surgery done on both eyes on November 12, 2015 by Dr. Jason J. Wang, M.D. and I must say he is wonderful. The whole time he would talk to me, telling me what to expect. What would happen next and how long it was going to take - each and every step. That was so comforting to me. I must say from the receptionist, along with all the staff and the Doctors. This place was the BEST. If you are ever consider having Lasik Surgery done. After the tech and doctor gave me a through cataract eye exam I was told he won't be the doctor doing the surgery. If Dr. Wang is too busy to meet with patients pre surgery well...he'll now have one less patient. read more

I had Lasik surgery in May 2013 at the Spivack Vision Center. The nurses were very kind, and the one post-op appt. I've had so far was very positive. However, I would never go back to Dr. Howard Amiel, who performed my surgery. I had hoped to go to Dr. Spivack, whom I believe has performed thousands of Lasik surgeries, but he was not available at a convenient time for me to schedule the surgery, so I was scheduled with Dr. Amiel. My research indicated that the success of the procedure can correlate to the number of Lasik surgeries the doctor has performed, so, to do my due diligence, I asked three people affiliated with Spivack Vision Center how many surgeries Dr. Amiel has performed. No one could give me an estimate, only that he has performed Lasik surgery on patients every other Friday for the past seven years. I was asked to check off a series of boxes about having been informed of all the risks of surgery, which included many problems, among them, complete loss of vision. The eye doctor I saw during my consultation seemed rushed and spoke very quickly as she went over them, and I realized later that she had actually skipped the "Complete loss of vision" bullet. When I finally met Dr. Amiel minutes before my surgery, I asked him for an estimate of the number of Lasik surgeries he has performed. But he too would not provide any estimate, only that he's been doing Lasik for about 10 years. I asked him if any of his patients had experienced any vision loss following surgery, and his answer was "Not that I know of. Are you having second thoughts?" He only said that Lasik is much simpler than the surgeries he usually performs and then asked me where I went to college. As I lied down on the operating table, Dr. Amiel informed me that I should expect to need reading glasses as early as immediately following surgery and that I should have been told that already. I had not been. He asked if I still wanted to go through with it. I did. But I should've been told that before; in fact his warning conflicted with what I have been told about presbyopia's effects appearing naturally and over time with age. I was also directed after surgery not to read for the weekend. This contradicted the booklet I'd been given, Blade-Free iLasik, with the Spivack logo, which states that most patients can return to work the next day. The surgery began negatively. The doctor directed me to look at the orange light, but there was no orange light in my line of vision, only a series of long, extremely bright yellow lights that were painful to look at in their brightness. He told me that I needed to cooperate and work with him so that the procedure would not be dangerous, so that it would be safe. Only a minute later did someone lift my chin a few inches so that the orange light appeared directly in my vision. It wasn't my fault, although the doctor had insinuated I'd failed to cooperate off the bat. About twice during the surgery, the doctor told me to stop raising my eyebrow, which I wasn't even aware I was doing. His warnings about my needing to cooperate with him made me feel that my involuntary actions threatened to compromise the safety of the surgery and therefore my vision.Once or twice he asked me if I wanted him to stop, midsurgery. I did not. Before the surgery, I had asked the eye doctor during my consultation if I would be able to get additional calming drugs if needed and was told to ask the surgeon about this if I felt I needed them. The procedure was somewhat painful and extremely uncomfortable. Dr. Amiel was not explaining in layperson's terms what he was doing, and I was frightened and anxious. The effects of the single small dose of Ativan I'd been given quickly dissipated during the stress of the procedure, and I asked for more but the doctor immediately refused because he said that he needed me to be alert to follow instructions. A couple of times during the surgery Dr. Amiel asked me what was wrong. I said that I was scared and had never had surgery before; that it was different and more painful than I'd expected; and that it would help if he told me what he was doing as he did it. He said things like, "This is a very easy surgery, Jill." It felt condescending rather than reassuring. Overall, even though it appears that my diagnostic outcome is positive so far (five days in), the surgery was more traumatic than it needed to be because Dr. Amiel's bedside manner was poor; therefore, I would not recommend him. 6/4/13 UPDATE: I've lost my near vision and now require reading glasses for the first time in my life, so I've essentially traded in one vision disability for another. read more

My husband started researching LASIK surgery when we moved to Colorado and Dr. spivak had great reviews. My husband had Lasik done by Dr. spivack and was really pleased. A few years later, I used him also and was happy with the results. For follow-ups, we chose Dr. Cockling and have been going to him for several years. He's a great guy and great doctor. The staff is all very friendly and professional. Never wait more than a few minutes at appointments. No over booking. We moved out of state a couple years ago and because we trust them so much and are extremely happy with them, we plan a trip to Colorado once a year and still have our eye appts. there. Dr. Wang is the absolute best. I've had an emergency eye issue (ulcer on my cornea) and he has had me come in every day and checks in on it. He is so busy and has been able to find a time to see me everyday and make sure the condition is improving. He is very nice and professional and does his examination and then will tell you afterwards everything he has concluded. My baby was crying screaming during two of the appointments and he didn't seem phased at all and was nice about it, which i really appreciated. I work in Boulder and go to Sunrise Vision Care in Boulder as well. Sunrise does not have the capability to perform Bladeless Lasik Surgery in their offices in Boulder, but recommended me to Spivack Vision Center for my pre-consult. After I was given the green light for the surgery, I set up an appointment with Dr. Wang, who was recommended to me by my optometrist in Boulder, Dr. Potter. Spivack was incredibly professional. All eye doctors and staff that assisted / consulted were very pleasant and informed me of what to expect as the surgery day neared. Dr. Wang was an amazing surgeon and described every step of the process to me as it was happening. It only took 15 minutes for the surgery and when they tell you that the more you can keep your eyes closed the first day the better the results, they are not kidding. I've been tested at Sunrise Vision Care for all of my follow up visits and I am seeing better than perfect at 20/15. If your eye doctor does not do Lasik Surgeries, you can go to Spivack, and then do all follow up visits with your regular eye doctor. The money spent for the surgery was money well-spent and I could not be happier with the results. read more

i chose spivack vision center because of their reputation. my consult revealed that i was a good candidate. my surgery was later preformed by dr howard amiel on another day. i am extremely pleased with my outcome and was very impressed with the staff, facility and surgeon. dr amiel was excellent, and talked me through the procedure. he called later that night and for days thereafter to check on me, which was very kind. i am now 20/20 for the first time since college. it was painless and easy! i would highly recommend dr amiel without reservation. he did a great job! read more

Very disappointed, They could not make the frames that they recommended fit. I have a wide head, and I made it clear that it would be a challenge. They never took me seriously, and even gave me attitude like it was my fault. I had to return five times, and the frames still do not fit properly. I had LASIK surgery performed at Spivack Vision Center in September of 2014. I lived in Fort Collins but my eye doctor up there recommended this facility as the best option for the procedure. I have to say that despite the long drive, I was so happy with the process and the outcome that I wouldn't have changed anything. All of the doctors and staff that I interacted with were fantastic. I was really nervous for elective surgery, but everyone there was knowledgeable and calming, and willing to walk me through it step by step. I would have to get this LASIK vision center 2 stars for a number of reasons. First, the office is poorly managed and the office staff is very rude. Second, is the scheduling / Billing part of the surgery is a nightmare, I went to my appointment and they didn't even have me on the correct day. They pretty much asked me for the full payment after my "free" consultation. Third, it's really impersonal and they treat you like a herd of cattle and just push you through the doors so they can take someone else money. All and all it was a very disappointing experience and I had higher expectations for this place due to the increased cost and other reviews. I would have gave this place a 1 star review; however, I am able to see without glasses. If I wanted to be treated poorly I would have gone somewhere else and saved a thousand dollars. read more

I had lasik surgery preformed by Lawrence Spivack, MD. In 2008. At first my vision was great, it was a vast improvement and I couldn't have been happier. I kept up with my regular eye appoints and everything was fine until the beginning of this year. My eye sight started to blur and I started to have trouble focusing. I went back to Spivack medical center to have my eyes checked again to see if an additional surgery was needed. An additional surgery was something they stated may be required so I was prepared up front for this. Unfortunately I was told a second surgery was not going to be an option and that I was having a side effect to the surgery called "After Lasik extasia" this is not something I was told would be a possibility prior to agreeing to the surgery. I tried to get the doctor to explain exactly what was happening and what they could do. They blew me off and wouldn't answer my questions. They kept avoiding any direct answers to questions like "Was this something that you should have explained to your patient so that they new the risks?" and "What is spiviack going to do to help fix the problem" After being avoided I stated doing my own research. What they mean by after lasik extasia is actually called Keratoconus and it will eventually require a cornea transplant. To date Spivack will not respond to me nor will they accept responsibility for their mistake. Because of this company I may go blind. That is what you should expect from them. Be careful. Losing your sight is not something I would wish on anyone. See you in court. read more

Each visit was informative and made me feel at ease considering the worry that goes hand in hand with something as precious as your vision. As someone who grew up from childhood to adulthood in glasses and then the hassle of contacts I couldn't have been more eager to go forward with surgery. I was recommended by my coworker for LASIK at Spivack Vision Center. I did my consultation and was a good candidate to continue on. I pick dates that worked best for me. I had my procedure done yesterday. I was very nervous at first but it went by very very quickly. They explained everything and walked me through everything that was happening. I thought recovery was going to be rough but only that same day was rough. I ended up sleeping the rest of the day. I woke up this morning feeling way better. My eyes are not irritated or itchy like I thought they were going to be. I drove this morning to my follow-up and everything is still looking good. I was shown to have 20/20 vision already. I'm so shocked how easy this was and how awesome my vision is already. For anyone who is thinking about getting LASIK I definitely recommend Spivack Vision Center. I went to Spivack Vision 8 weeks ago. I paid $50 for the eye evaluation. I have yet to receive a call back from them just to find out if I am a candidate or not for surgery. I have called them at least a half a dozen times. At about 5 weeks, I did get a call back and was told the doctor had not reviewed my file but he would hopefully by the end of that week. That was over 3 weeks ago and I haven't got a call back since. When you leave a message and the voicemail says they will get back to you in 24 hours - don't believe it! read more
