This place was promising at first based on other reviews.
My first visit was okay. The place is bright, clean and with a somewhat swanky spa ambience. The pedicurist was friendly and cordial. My pedicure looked great. The only bad experience I had was that my foot got scorched by extremely hot water when my pedicurist forgot to test the water temp first. But it was accidental. I did not hold it against OMG.
The second time, which was yesterday, I had a different pedicurist but the quality of the pedicure was just as good as my first. However, this is when things took a turn for the worse. As usual, I waited about 30 minutes for my pedi to dry, then I was ready to get wrapped up with oiled plastic before putting on my thick wool socks. It was a cold day and I walked there. My pedicurist, however, convinced me that I did not need to wrap because 30 minutes were good enough for the polish to completely set. But, as you guessed it, the polish did not set. I ended up with messy polish on every single toe nail. Then I called back to let them know I needed a re-polish. I explained to the person - whom I later found out was the manager, named Chloe - I was just there and my polish was messed up when I got home. She seemed courteous in arranging a time for me to return for a re-polish.
This morning, I returned for the re-polish. And I was completely floored. First, the manicurist, a different one, in her broken English, attempted to confirm I only needed to fix my toe nails. I told her yes, I need a re-polish, thinking that was what she meant by 'fix'. She then proceeded to trying exhaustively to seek out the exact color I currently have on my toe nails even though I said a similar color was good enough. After that, she only repainted a few of my messed up toe nails that were the most obvious. Now I know why she was so earnest with picking out the exact color. I told her all of my toe nails, all ten of them, needed to be repainted as they were all ruined. I asked her to look closely. She seemed stressed out. She tried to explain to me that Chloe would charge me if she were to paint them all as it'd be considered a color change - and not a fix. I told her I called yesterday about the mishap and I was here to get a re-polish. I also said I would talk to Chloe right now if she needed me to. In response, the manicurist just went ahead and repainted all my toe nails.
When I sat down at the nail drying station to dry my nails, which was right in front of the reception counter where Chloe was, I pulled up Yelp to start drafting this review. I find it appalling that they were going to only repaint (fix) a few toe nails and not repaint them all without a fee.
Anyway, more than 30 minutes later, Chloe approached me to ask me if I wanted to wear sandals (but think she meant flip-flops) out. I told her I walked there, and it's about 5 blocks away and it's 35 degrees outside, so no thanks. She told me that every customer took about the same amount of time to dry their nails but none had the messed up nails. I told her that I had waited 30 minutes or more yesterday before I slipped into my socks and shoes. I also told her that my manicurist said I didn't need to get my feet wrapped. This was when she realized why my nails got messed up. She said then this was their fault. But then she went on to say that I didn't tell her about that on the phone. I said I didn't think of going into such detail. I thought letting her know I was just there and that when I got home my nails were ruined was good enough of info. She also said that I should have told my manicurist I needed to have my feet wrapped. I thought that was an interesting point. I did not realize I was responsible for training her employees. I was there to get a professional pedicure. As in, I rely on their skills and judgement to have the perfect nails for which I paid. I thought that's how it worked. I didn't realize they relied on my expertise - that they expected me to tell them how to do their job.
Unfortunately (for me), second time around, even after I had waited over 30 minutes of drying time, and even with my feet wrapped in oil-slicked plastic by the warm and courteous manager, Chloe, herself, my nails still ended being ruined. This time, it was just the big toe nails though (see pics), so maybe I can go back for a free fix? Third time's a charm, right? I think I'll cut my losses and pay for a color change elsewhere to save my sanity.
So all and all I had spent $48 and an accumulative amount of 4 hours in hopes of a professional pedicure. But l walked away with an unprofessional job and an experience that left a bad taste in my mouth.
After an okay first visit then an awful second time experience. I think I feel exactly like Chloe's professional demeanor towards me: lukewarm. Hence, the two stars. read more
