Decided to check out Ombu grill as there has been a serious lack of all you can eat Korean bbq in Utah. After living in Korea town in Los Angeles for a long time I get serious cravings. Food was delicious if not a little white washed for the Utah crowd, would have been nice to see some rice paper and the usual Korean side salad rather than American go to's. However the service was terrible. From the moment we stepped foot in this establishment a wave of negativity hit us. Nobody smiled and welcomed us. Instead they barked that as it was dinner prices not lunch. I never got one refill on my water, I had to ask four times to get refilled on kimchi and cucumber (the traditional sides) Still no smiles. I felt like I was inconveniencing them to be there. I felt so unwelcome. Finally We had enough and asked for the manager, who sure enough was one of the rude serving staff members we had asked repeatedly for more sides. Offered us a discount to which I responded it wasn't about a discount. It was about an experience and in general felt like I was being judged for being a white woman (I have never felt this way ever in my life, I'm British living in America and have travelled all around the world) I have never been spoken back to in such a rude manner from management. I understand people have bad days but this was the entire vibe of the facility. In general they gave off an air of ignorance and complete intolerance and judgement. Just a bunch of dumb Americans wanting to try something from a different culture vibe kind of attitude. Food was amazing. Service - the worst I've ever experienced. In terms of their grill menu, i highly recommend marinated beef tenderlion, bone-in short ribs, and marinated pork belly. I did not have a good experience here. I wanted to like it because I love the idea, and I had really enjoyed the experience at Umami over by the Megaplex on Geneva but I wanted to try the one with a more Korean flavor. Maybe it's because I came for lunch, but there was barely any selection of anything at the buffet--many items in the menu were "dinner only," which I understand but it might be nice to keep them separate or in a dinner menu section. I hate to be too negative but the fruit in the buffet consisted of canned pineapple and peaches, which was disappointing. I just left feeling kind of sad and disappointed I think. Being half Korean I must say that I wasn't impressed with this place at all. That being said, our first and only time there started with no explanation as to what the set up was. I wasn't aware of sauces or a salad bar until halfway through the meal. The temperature on the grill was either too hot burning our food or too low causing us to wait for awhile while it cooked. The meats were mostly bland with either too much fat or little to zero flavor. They only gave us three types of sides such as kimchi, etc and those were lackluster at best. Overall, I was hoping to enjoy this place as I'm happy to see more Korean restaurants opening but this was truly disappointing. Sadly 2 stars is actually generous. It was pretty dismal from the get go. We were seated and given our menus. I quickly glanced at the menu and there were some Korean items on the menu. However this is more Korean adjacent. It was all in English and Chinese. We were directed to the salad bar. This was the saddest salad bar in the world. There was some Asian dipping sauces, a salad mix, a few condiments for the salad and then a couple trays of honeydew, cantaloupe, pineapple and orange wedges. So we didnt bother with any salad. When we got back to the table there were a few Panchans out, but no Kimchi! How the hell you can call yourself a Korean restaurant and not have any Kimchi? Since we weren't too impressed at this point, we selected a few Korean basics. Overall the meat that we did have was good and flavorful. However the premium beef's color was off which leads me to believe it wasn't the freshest. We also ordered some Kimchi fried rice. The flavor was good, but it was lukewarm. It seemed like they had prepared a large batch of it and scooped out of the batch as it was ordered. The last and probably the worst thing was the wastebaskets that we passed on our way out. They bussed the tables into them and were just an eyesore. I honestly was sad that this wasnt a better experience. I love Korean food and bbq. This was a let down. I have a mixed review on this place. There are many offerings here, 50 menu items that's a plus, but that's where the pluses end for our Ombu experience. We took our family of 6 out. At $29 a person it was a holiday splurge! If you are looking for an authentic Korean BBQ experience this is not it. It's Korean inspired, but flavors are more Chinese than Korean. No ban chan veggie sides, no garlic, or salt with sesame oil. Fried rice was tasteless. Kalbi was very fatty. When we reordered menu items the staff seemed really annoyed and brought out smaller and smaller portions each time we re-ordered. The waitresses (more than one) were openly sassy and kept rolling their eyes when we'd order repeats of menu items. This place had potential but for the high price paid per person it was lacking in flavor, quality and service. I highly recommend Yummys Korean BBQ, it's cheaper priced, it's more authentic and it is also in Orem. I really had high hopes for this place. Their Calamari is good. If you like variety and are not particular about your meal being authenticity Korean- it might be worth a shot. For me and my family we will go elsewhere- too, bad. read more

You get the whole menu for $20 during dinner service, and I have to say the menu is pretty impressive. As compared to other korean grill restaurants, your all-you-can-eat includes items like stone bowl bi bim bap, and it's a pretty big bowl. Get one for the table maybe, it'll ruin your appetite for meat if you try to eat it all yourself. The menu also skews a little more chinese and japanese than some others, with a lot more seafood, meats you don't usually see like tongue. Items that are very chinese like fried chicken cartilage. I did kinda wish there were more side dishes. They had kimchi, pickled cucumber slices, and gamja jorim (korean style potatoes).
