I started using Alice and a few of the other stylists after I heard from many people about how good and experienced they were. The hair stylists at Hair Booth are professional, super friendly, and go the extra mile to ensure me and my kids have a good experience. I enjoy the extra service they offer such as a head massage prior to the cut, which is so simple but relaxing. They treat you like family and the service is exceptional. The salon is very nice and clean...they even have a photo booth for their clients to use...which is unique. The staff are great and accommodating to my busy schedule. They fit me in last minute, which isn't easy to do when many of their stylist have a loyal following of clients. There are not a lot of good hair salons in the area and would definitely recommend others to try them out....you'll leave happy and satisfied. Thanks for the great service.

I asked a friend who asked their friend who is from Calgary where to go. She highly recommend Shag and to ask for Niki. Only learning during my appointment the friend just started going there herself. As long as I'm in Calgary I will always go to this salon, the search has ended. I feel so lucky that I had the opportunity to experience this salon and meet Niki. The atmosphere ( chic, positive, upbeat vibe), the customer service, the products, the prices but most important the manner and ability Niki applies her technical ability is top notch. She explained in detail how she was going to process my hair and showed me different pictures of blondes, making sure I felt confident and understood the color I decided on. The outcome was bang on! My hair looks great, I feel great. Life is great!

Parking is available to the side of the building and back, few spots in the front but I believe those are for expecting mothers. They offer a bevvie at the door, and smiles galore. Ever had long hour hair appointments where you find yourself staring into void space and dozing off? Shag is upbeat, the atmosphere is sleek with lots of eye candy, art on the walls and good beats. Magazines galore and WIFI to boot! There's also a communal table in the center of the work area which is great for socializing, and not having to be confined to your chair. I love it! More importantly is the craft that's going on in this busy hive. I have dark hard-to-dye hair, and if you have dark hair, you'll know where I'm coming from. Keeping a lighter shade of hair is an absolute nightmare, having to lift the roots and then color, and then match up the two over laps. I came in to have my roots colored, and expecting to have over dyed ends AGAIN, I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't need the rest of my hair dyed. Karissa is a master of her craft, and checked on me very frequently just to get the color right. I haven't gotten a cut yet, but that'll be my anticipated visit. The color set me back $60 and came with conditioning and style - just right as I was heading out that night. Reasonable, and moreso because I was so delighted with how well it turned out. Definately making this my go to salon, and recommending this place. You shag, I shag, we all should shag!

I was looking for a new hairdresser since moving back to Calgary and thought I had found it but…read morewhat I experienced was the opposite! It was right up there with the very worst experience I ever had. I went to have a hair cut on short hair, and highlights. I noted twice that I wanted when someone looks at me to experience blonde. I came out of there, apparently not having been heard, with dark hair a horrible color and not at all what I wanted. And the cut? Well it was a chop job, no notice taken when I stated that I had two crowns and cowlicks ( I would expect a stylist to take those into account but no). I said that I did not like the color and that it was too dark and she argued with me! Am I not the customer here? So I decided to contact the stylist for a color correction only to be told that it would be another $200 on top of the $300+ I already paid. Are you kidding me? And again arguing with me!!!!!!!!! This is my wallet and I am horribly dissatisfied with both the color and the cut. In my opinion people need to know what they are getting themselves into here! I will never ever darken their door again!

I've been the the refinery for 3 appointments since they opened and had fairly good services each…read moretime until recently. The stylists are quite good at what they do but the professionalism is lacking (starting service 15 mins past the appointment time, taking personal calls on their cell phones while performing services, and sometimes sharing really personal information). I often take the day off work and schedule my hair appointments first thing in the morning when the salon opens because the salon is so far from my house and it turns in to a day event. I'm fairly punctual and always arrive 5 mins before my appointment time. Each time I have come in for a service there is never anyone there before me and I have to wait in the hallway until a stylist shows up at 10:00 or 5 mins past. Not the worst thing, but a bit annoying. Today I booked an appointment for 10:00 am on Friday before a long weekend and the same thing happened again. No one was there. Another employee showed up a few minutes after 10:00 and let me in but explained she did not know where my stylist was. I waited in the salon for 20 minutes while the other employee tried to get a hold of my stylist and the owner. The owner finally called and said there was an emergency and the stylist would not be coming in. The employee started to cry and asked if I could come back later in the afternoon and unfortunately I was not able to because of other appointments I had scheduled. I left my name and number for the owner to call me when she got in and left the salon. 6 hours pass and still no call from the owner. I call back at this time and the owner answers. I explained that I was upset with how this morning went down and that I understand that emergencies come up but I was very inconvenienced by taking the day off, driving across the city and not being able to have my service done. I explained that I booked the day off to get the service done because I have family coming in from out of town for the holidays and then I leave for vacation on the next business day. The owner apologized but took a bit of a defensive tone and explained the stylist was in the hospital and there was nothing she could do to foresee this happening. I said I completely understand that and asked if there was anything the salon could do to compensate for my inconvenience. The owner said she can't offer me anything over the phone but could discuss the possibility of a free service next time I come in but it would have to be in the next day or two. I explained I had family coming in from out of town and was not available for an appointment until I return from my vacation in 2 weeks. The owner said she can't really do anything for me in that timeline and again that she has no control over an emergency. I felt a bit frustrated with the response from the owner as it felt really unprofessional and defensive. I completely understand that emergencies come up but I am expecting service to be done at my appointment and felt like an apology should have been made and the salon should have tried to accommodate my schedule to make up for the missed service. No other stylists were available at the time and I just had to leave. It's a really beautiful salon but I will not be returning after this experience.

I was surprised when I found this place. Thinking about its location and exterior, I would imagine it to be a somewhat low-quality salon. But, thinking like that, I would be wrong. The staff are definitely among the nicest stylists I've met. They can tolerate children in their chairs, which is more than I can say for other places. They have a way of talking to anyone and making them feel very welcome and at home. Since it is classified as a 'family' salon, the prices are actually cheaper than other places. I don't feel like I'm blowing my whole paycheque on a hairdo, which is definitely a nice thing. Riverpark Beauty, here I come!

I saw this salon while grocery shopping, and decided to try it out on a whim - very glad I did! The initial appointment booking was positive - the receptionist asked a couple of questions about my hair, recommended a stylist and was helpful in finding a good time (evenings and weekends... :P) When I arrived for my appointment, the salon appeared fairly clean and tidy with lots of product displays. I was sent to the hair salon downstairs (I didn't realize the building was so big!), where I met my stylist Shauni. She was friendly and welcoming, and totally put me at ease immediately. Here's the thing. I like to change my hair up, and I like a stylist who isn't afraid to make some suggestions based on my face, the way I describe my routine, the length of my hair and any goals I might have (growing it out, something "beachy", etc...) I can be somewhat vague and I don't always know exactly what I want when I arrive at the salon, so I love someone who can be flexible, take charge and produce a great cut on a limited amount of information and direction. Shauni totally did that. She was a great listener, made some suggestions (we cut bangs instead of a side fringe because she pointed out it would get a bit flippy with my glasses - observant!!) and was a confident, efficient stylist. The hair wash chairs were the most comfortable I think I've ever been in. The salon was helpful and friendly, and there was a down-to-business attitude that I really like - I was in and out within about 45 minutes. I love my new haircut, and I'll be going back to her again when it's time to get it cut again!

The one recommended seemed competent, but I found his attitude extremely arrogant and snobby. He doesn't really care about what you want, or your lifestyle. He doesn't care whether or not you will be able to style your hair at home following his work. He doesn't care about the issues you're having with hair loss, etc, but know that if you talk about this, he will push you to spend a fortune on very expensive store products that make no difference at all. He is very arrogant and seems to think his skills are over and above. You will look runway-ready when he's done with your hair, but unless you're a stylist yourself, you will likely not be able to duplicate the look at home, in fact, you will struggle with it every day. If I return to this salon, I will 100% avoid this stylist.

My initial question upon entry was, "How much for a trim?" I was surprised to hear that it was only $25, but since it was my first visit I would receive 10% off. Awesome, I thought, let's do it. I was immediately seated at a stylists chair, since I was the only customer at the time, and promptly introduced to Sashi, my stylist for the day. It wa great friendly service from the two ladies working that day. My stylist, Sashi, really understood what I meant when I said I wanted to keep the length. She said she would only take off what was necessary to get rid of the dead ends. I loved her! She took maybe a centimetre off my ends, and fixed up my bangs for me. Once I was done I inquired about waxing, since many places are extremely over-priced. They told me I could have a full Brazilian done for only $40... I think that's pretty amazing. I decided to skip the invasive waxing for the day and just get my brows threaded instead. Now, I've never had the threading done, only the waxing. I've got to say, after experiencing threading of the brow, I don't think I'll ever go back to waxing! The overall experience at Trends was fabulous. I was in and out with a splendid trim and my eyebrows done in under 40 minutes... and it cost me under $40! That's a winner in my books!
