I emailed Brock well in advance, and even though at the time no one else was signed up to float on the weekday we were available, he graciously agreed to open shop for us that day. That is no small act of customer service from a small business owner! :) We arrived early and Brock's brother (can't remember his name- so sorry!) offered to give us a tour of the land. It was lovely- well kept, lots of areas to play lawn games or relax, camping spots for those who'd like an overnight trip, and stories of the land owners around them (one guy across the river raises hundreds of goats!). The river was great- lots of sandbanks for snack breaks (if you wish to prolong your day), areas to stop and swim, and a nice mix of private homes and preserved natural spaces which make for a pleasant scenic experience. He planned everything and was in contact with Brock, the owner who was super responsive and helpful. He sends out emails with information, packing list and makes sure the weather is good for tubing. When we got there, btw place is easy to find using his address, we signed a waiver and were loaded on a school bus. We were dropped off at a river crossing location and our tubes were attached as well as a tube for our cooler, we were given a paddle and that was all. We were on our own for this 4 h adventure down the river. I should pause to say most people that do this have a different plan and they usually have a big party with a big group and loud noise water guns etc. Our plan was a little different, more of enjoying the river and the scenery. The river itself is dark since the bottom is muddy so no clear waters, but it's clean, there are some tree branches here and there, but no trash itself. There are sandbars along the way where you can stop. The trip usually lasts about 4 hours which is significantly more than what I would've been on the tube if I would have had the choice. We applied sunscreen repeatedly and we still were pretty tan by the end of the ride. Bottom line: well organized and good idea, it gets 4 stars because the river is not the prettiest and the ride is too long (for my taste) maybe offering a half ride from like the bridge on Center might be a good idea. Oh, I almost forgot, bonus points: we saw our first bald eagle!!

3.5 rounding up to 4 stars…read more.. I have skied in New York, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho, so how does Mt Crescent (opened in 1961!!) compare you may ask? Not even close, LOL, but that's not the point here. We in and around Omaha live in the Great Plains. There simply is no skiing or snowboarding anywhere close by, and for years my snowboard was collecting dust. Last year we decided it was time for our daughter to take some skiing lessons and brought her out to Mt Crescent, which for us in North Omaha, means a quick drive into Iowa across the Mormon Bridge. So yes the place is incredibly small, with basically 2-3 runs and two lifts. They make and groom their own snow so don't expect a lot of fresh powder here. But I have to say, I actually have fun skiing here with my daughter, and because of this little place in Iowa, she has learned to ski and is really enjoying it. They offer lessons (with discounted/free season passes to go along with it), and you can rent all your gear there if you don't have your own. They also offer tubing and sledding (with b-day party options for those). They recently put in a really long zip-line as well. I haven't tried it, but it runs the entire length of the hill, so it looks like fun! The 'lodge' is one big two story building, with ticketing and food on the main floor, and the ski rental portion on the lower level. Real basic food options here, think basic fried bar food. They do offer beer as well, but your basic non-craft styles, along with limited wine and cocktails. Overall this place isn't the biggest, the best, or the cheapest, but it is definitely a fun place to go and get outside during the winter. Get some practice in here and have some fun, then plan your trips to Colorado!

Took my 10-year-old here for the first time today, and we had a great experience! We made a…read morereservation online and arrived about 10 minutes early. Just a heads-up: you won't start the course until your scheduled time. First, you get harnessed up and then watch a short safety video. To be honest, it felt a little overwhelming at first. After the video, the staff takes you to a practice area where they show you how to clip on and off correctly before sending you out to the main deck to choose your course. We started with the zip line course, which included eight zip lines. It was a little intimidating at first, making sure we knew exactly how to clip on and off, but after about 20 minutes we felt much more comfortable and confident. During our visit, we completed three courses and even repeated the zip line course because we enjoyed it so much. You get three hours to do as many courses as you'd like. Some of the obstacles were a bit challenging, but overall it was a fun and exciting experience--though definitely tiring! My daughter had a blast. The staff was friendly, patient, and very helpful throughout our visit. We will definitely be back!

The usual geese and ducks but on the right day you may see bald eagles, herons, cranes, pelicans ( yep pelicans), giant swans and more. The trail is crushed stone with partial shade in parts. For those with dogs note there are 2 grated bridges to cross. The NRD does a wonderful job keeping up the area.
