Jagerschnitzel, Spatzle, and Swabian Potato salad
    Royce S.

First off, the restaurant is only opened on Friday and Saturday. They do not have their liquor license yet, but have applied for it. The wife, whom I'll assume is Oma informed my wife and I that when her and her husband opened the restaurant they didn't want people to feel like they are being pushed out of the restaurant after finishing their meal. She told us to stay as long as we wanted to and to come up to the front desk where our check was. Having been stationed in Germany this is the same policy that most Gausthaus' had, which I really enjoyed. To drink I asked for Unsweetened Tea, for dinner I ordered the Jagerschnitzel with Spatzle and Swabian Potato Salad. Everything was very delicious and while it looks like a lot, it left room for dessert which I tried the Bee Sting cake which was excellent, very light and flavorful. Was it worth the 90 minute drive??? Absolutely!!! We are already planning another visit in April. They will take reservations via Facebook or Yelp and are very responsive. A true gem. I almost forgot, at checkout there were Strudel fir sale and I bought a Cherry Strudel to take home

Don't let the drive keep you away. Hands down, the best German food I've ever had. The quality, the freshness, the love....you can taste it all. It's comforting, filling, and SO SO good. I'd rather drive an hour and have homemade sauerkraut with my jalapeño schnitzel & a piece of fresh baked cake, than wait an hour at any other chain restaurant just to get something I could get anywhere else. You can't get THIS anywhere else. (At least not without a looooong drive or maybe a plane.) The staff is lovely and so very nice. And they're happy to help you navigate the menu. While there aren't a ton of menu options, it works out so well. They've kept it simple and traditional with a little pizzaz here and there. But that doesn't mean you'll have an easy time picking! They all sound so good! And I can't wait to come back and try everything!! The staff is so nice and welcoming. And they others

Wonderful food. Be patient. They have been busy since instagram this is a small town community and they are doing their best. You will wait awhile. But the food makes it so worth it! The ambiance is family atmosphere and the food feels like someone cooked it with love!

This was such a lovely experience. We followed the advice of the owner, who suggests making reservations by sending them a message on their Facebook, and we were seated right away. There are several large tables that they will seat multiple parties at to accommodate everyone. Making the reservation allows them to Tetris everyone more efficiently. They also have some 3/4/5/6 seater tables. This family and their community are working hard to provide the experience and they are doing a great job! The food was fantastic! My husband did several summers abroad in Austria and said the schnitzel was just like his host mother used to make. Currywurst was tasty! Potato salad was delicious, as well! The Bee Sting cake, alone, is worth coming back for!

the food here is incredible, the workers and owners are so sweet and lovely. you can taste the love in the food that they make. it does take some time to get the food because everything is made to order, which is well worth the wait. it's a hole in the wall place that's well worth the drive. be patient with the workers and it will be well worth it

I never cared for German food until, now. Oma's Schnitzel Ranch is the most DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC German cuisine I have ever tasted. I've traveled throughout the United States and have had some of the finest German cuisine, but Smiley, Texas is certainly the best I've had. The owner, Lisa, is originally from Germany and makes everything from scratch along with her husband, who's an AMAZING cook! She also has some of the most delicious baked goods, including her homemade breads. We also purchased some homemade jams, jalapeños, and baked goods to take home and gift to others. We come back as often as possible! Totally worth the 2 hour drive (one way)!! Try it, you'll love it. The ambience is like coming into someone's cozy home and enjoying the best German home-cooked meal you've ever had. We just love it here and look forward to our next trip.

    Knockwurst, red cabbage, potato salad

From someone that travels to find authentic German food, I can't believe this place is so close to home. I Swung in on a Friday and grabbed a plate to go. The special was Knockwurst, potato salad, and red cabbage. This plate didn't make it back to the job site. The knockwurst was great, cabbage cooked perfectly, and possibly the best authentic potato salad I've ever had. The brown mustard they gave with the knockwurst as also some of the best I've ever had--will be asking where it came from on my next visit. Can't wait to get back and try a schnitzel or one of their other entrees.

It is very rustic which made it feel super authentic It is owned by a family husband and wife. I wish I asked for her name all smiles she greeted us and I decided to get the 3 meat combo which I picked the cordon bleu, the chicken schnitzel and the pork schnitzel and I still added the wurst curry. For the sides I got the sauerkraut and the potato salad. My friend got the chicken schnitzel with the cabbage and French fries Let me start by saying it is CHEAP!! My plate is $21.50! It is huuuge! Me the one who can eat a lot! I couldn't even tackle half of it! It definitely can feed easily 2 hungry people! Everything tasted amazing! The cordon bleu though is next next level! I so wish it is closer to me I would just go have lunch there every single Saturday! Also it is true when service is friendly the whole experience becomes better! This lady is pure joy... she is always laughing! After the meal we were outside and she came out playing a bit with her son. It was so sweet to watch! Now this place is on my list of taking visitors... friends... whoever gets in my car going towards this area for a day trip!

I had a Tipsy Blond (named for the Brewery's cat who I saw peeking out the window!) The beer was good and flavorful. I especially like that the menu includes the IBU value for each beer as I prefer beers with little bitterness. After I ordered beer, I flipped the menu over to discover many more cocktail and wine options! We had Rueben's, turkey burger or the regular burger and we all enjoyed the food. My tots were sprinkled with a peppery seasoning that gave them a bit of kick and they were very crispy. I'd suggest them over the fries which were not as crisp. The outdoor seating was cooled by a nice breeze. There is a small indoor bar. The main entrance is on the side street but is also accessible from Castell Ave. I can see enjoying another evening here!

For those that have issues finding parking on the Main Street, it's good to note that they have a small lot in the back for customers as well. Alstadt Peach Radler - Top of the list of what I personally enjoyed at the Auslander. This beer was a light, crisp, and refreshing beer with a hint of peach flavor. Definitely something to enjoy on a hot day. This was my happy place drink. Beer Battered Mushrooms - The shrooms here were better than most other German establishments I've dined at. Reasonably sized mushrooms with a non overly heavy batter. Portions were bigger than expected and would readily satisfy a group of four. Jägerschnitzel - A fair sized slab of fried pork goodness smothered in a red wine mushroom gravy. The pork loin was a good thickness and not an overly pounded thin cutlet. Breading was good, but didn't stick much to the protein. Gravy was just okay in my opinion and had a hint of sourness to it for some reason. Not a terrible entree but wasn't mind blowing either. Currywurst - The bratwurst with this meal was a solid portion of meat that was full of porky goodness. Curry ketchup had the spice flavoring to it, but wasn't particularly strong. It was a fair entree, nothing mind blowing, but still a good comfort dish. Sides - All the entrees came with a choice of two sides. Fries were just fries... good, but nothing special. Mashed potatoes tasted like the usual suspect, mashed potatoes. Potato salad was properly cooked and prepared with some simple vinegary and cream flavors. Red cabbage tasted like vinegared red cabbage. All in all, the sides were just okay. Everything was for the most part clear cut of what was good and just okay. In that terms, there seemed to be a strange and wildly large chasm between what was okay and good in terms of the food. I was satisfied at the end of the meal, but at the same time not unhappy nor super happy with my meal. I was just... satisfied/okay. Food felt a bit overpriced for what we received, otherwise this establishment felt more like a one-and-done type of place.
