Awful awful awful. If you are able to rent from a different company, do so. Promising renovations and fixing of appliances, unsafe fixtures, and horrendous smells that were never addressed. If dealing with their rude "secretary/property manager" Marina wasn't enough, try getting a hold of anyone else you talked to within the company. Everyone is conveniently "on vacation". Was told upon signing the lease to 23 Gristmill Court (an Olympus Properties building) that we could move in on the 31st instead of the 1st as there was no tenant currently in the unit free of charge, but surprise! We were going to be charged for moving in a day early. When I called to have this removed I was told they could not verify that we were authorized to move in a day earlier without fee as the person we signed the lease with who told us we could WAS ON VACATION. The apartment was filthy disgusting. Urine on the toilet seat and along the toilet. Cigarette ashes in the kitchen drawers. An awful foul smell emanating from the kitchen walls/general area, filthy floors, filthy grout and tiles, soap scum in the shower, and mould in all the windowsills. The cupboard drawers so loose on their tracks that upon putting any weight on them, would fall out on to your toes. The stove was off kilter, was filthy, and the burners would not stay level and kept popping up and out of their slots. We had been told on the day we looked at the apartment (before signing any leases) that the kitchen, floors and bathrooms were all being renovated as the previous tenants lived there for some time which was evident. When we arrived with Uhaul in tow and were greeted with a total pigpen we refused to sign the inspection papers and move in until the apartment was cleaned. Marina insisted on the phone that "the landlord for this building has been working for us for over 30 years and I have never had a problem with her, but now I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOU" making it out to be our fault, as if it was possible for us to make soap scum magically appear and mould grow within minutes of arriving on the premises. The landlord agreed to bring her daughter and granddaughter over to our unit to properly clean it, which took them approximately 2 hours. Time ticked on and we were over our allotted time for our Uhaul truck of which we were told Olympus Properties has no intentions of picking up the tab for our extra time.
All in all, we received new tinfoil liners for our stove as it the metal was rusted to a crisp underneath. None of our major concerns were ever addressed, or checked up on.
Ultimately, we moved out within 2 months as both my husband and I contracted rashes from this disgusting apartment and I burned my hand on the stove trying to steady it, on a burner that wasn't even on (it just became so hot from the oven being on). When the landlord came to do our out inspection, she simply wrote clean on everything and she and her daughter remarked that the apartment was cleaner now than when we moved in. Duh. We waited the allotted 10 days for our damage deposit cheque to be returned to us and alas it was not. As Nov. 11th was a holiday, we graciously waited a few more days in the hopes that the holiday messed things up but to no surprise it had not arrived on the 20th of November. My husband called them on the Monday after (the 23rd) and was told that their accountant WAS ON VACATION so our cheque was not sent out. My husband promptly went to their office to pick up the cheque.
Now that we have all of that behind us all I can do is warn people, and tell others to warn others! Pass this along. We have photos of absolutely everything I have mentioned - from the cigarette ashes to the rashes my husband and I both contracted.
You should be ashamed Olympus Properties.
Never again. read more
