Kevin the shop owner is great! I visited this shop for the 1st time last Saturday and he commented on the band shirt I was wearing. We exchanged stories about seeing the band live and I asked if he had any of their stuff and he pulled a first press of a older release I've been looking from his back stock and gave me a great price! Selection of used is good, and conditions on the records I bought was great. Lot's of variety, something for everybody I'd say. He has a vacuum cleaner as well for the used records, so that they are in clean shape. Definitely looking forward to visiting again next time I am in Providence. read more

We stumbled upon Olympic Records today after a visit to neighboring PVDonuts, and boy, am I glad we did! I am a sucker for old records and for spending hours browsing around record stores, so I was pretty much in heaven here. They have an awesome variety of 12" vinyl and 45s, all which seemed to be in amazing condition. I could have spent much longer browsing around in here if it wasn't for the Yelp Event I had to jet off to! The owner, Kevin, is really what make Olympic Records awesome, though. He is very friendly, chatty, and knowledgeable, and one of the coolest shopkeepers I've met in Providence. Definitely take the time to talk with him when you come in here - he really knows his stuff! You can tell that his store is super curated, with lots of unique finds and rare stuff I haven't seen in other record stores in town. Stopped by Olympic Records today for the first time & was pleasantly surprised that one could actually find a parking space on Wickenden St.. Kieth, the owner, was very pleasant & checked out all the items that I brought along. We found him to be cordial while he looked over what we had brought. This was a glorious find. I was cleaning out my Mom's old house and saw she had some 45s and 12" vinyl she didn't want and neither did I. So we set forth on finding a music store that would take them. Being a Yelper, I discovered Olympic Records and wasn't disappointed. Nested a few blocks east of Brown University in the Fox Point District of Providence, Olympic has a nice selection of different 45s and vinyl LPs. Hell, I saw a deluxe edition copy of Big Star's Third, so I was impressed. We spoke with Kevin, who was the owner and a really nice dude. He took the time to review what we had brought, letting us know what he would take off our hands. If I lived in the area, I would be going there quite a bit, and probably upgrade and get a good vinyl player. Olympic is one of these tried-and-true used records stores where you could hang there for hours checking out good quality items for sale. And it's located in a cool area, with a lot of great vibes and funky stores. read more

Really nice store owner with a BONKERS selection of pop/rock 45s. I went in here and spent $100 on a stack of records I didn't even know I wanted until they were in my hands. A lot of stuff *is* pretty worn out though, so just make sure you're okay with stuff you'd rate Good/Good+ and if you're especially picky about such things make sure you like what you're holding before you buy it. read more

Ok, seven years have passed and it's time to update this review. The pinball machine are long gone, but that leaves space for more records. This is a win! The 7"ers have multiplied 100-fold. Another win! Best part about Olympic is Kevin. Kev knows how to run a successful business - always friendly to everyone that comes in, knows what the regulars are looking for, remembers names and details, etc. He cleans all of his inventory, prices it fairly, and keeps up a great social media presence. In Rhode Island for a short 2 day stay, I decided to visit downtown Providence. As an avid record collector, naturally I had to check out the local record store options. Having gotten a coffee down the street, I took a short walk down to Olympic Records and was immediately greeted by the shop owner, Kevin, who is one of the nicest and coolest guys you'll ever meet. There is a plethora of options in various genres (they have a bunch of 45s as well), but I honed my attention to the classic rock section, and I was not disappointed. It took me over an hour to go through all the bins! The prices here are pretty middle of the road, not too pricy, but not the $5 bin. However, the quality of records you get, and the selection more than makes up for it. All records are kept in plastic sheaths too, which you get to take with you. I think of that as a bonus! I ended up leaving here with 6 records for the price of $80. Not too shabby! I will definitely visit this shop again next time I am in town. Keep up the great work, Kevin! read more

A friendly, cozy, simple vinyl-only record store to browse and hang, with none of that cooler-than-thou B.S. The old pinball machines are awwwesome. I love the handmade wooden record bins resting atop conveyor belts; lots of cool little things like that to appreciate, but totally uncluttered. Mostly newer stuff, but the used vinyl's in great condition and thoughtfully selected (as in, there aren't 10 musty Frampton Comes Alives to weed through). The owner is super-nice and helpful. We were talking about the solid records everyone wants to have in their collection. My husband says he's been searching for a copy of Paul Simon's Graceland, and asks could he give him a call if one turns up. The owner pauses, and walks over to his own personal record stash to pull out a used - with cellophane carefully still intact around the sleeve - copy of the album, and offers it up. A man who would give you the Graceland off his back is a good man indeed. I wish Olympic Records all the success it deserves! read more

My teenage daughter received a record player for Christmas and thus began the record collecting. Olympic Records is located on the less busy end of Wickenden with parking on the street. We happened to go on a Monday early afternoon and the store was pretty empty, having but just us for awhile the friendly, super nice guy that was working didn't mind putting a couple of records on the player we weren't sure about. Used records, new records, band t's, and even an arcade game to play while hanging out! Some sitting space was also available with comfy chairs and local magazines for a quick read or thumb through. We ended up buying a handful of records new & used. We will be back! read more

This was my maiden voyage to Olympic Records. I am just getting into vinyl, so I am super excited about all things records! When I learned a about a Groupon for this place, I was determined to go. The selection is incredible! There are rows of 45s and 33s, waiting to be perused. In one bin alone, I found In The Key Of Life and The Supremes! I was on Cloud 9 very early. As I walked around the store, I noticed a large box of 45s that were $.50 each. There I find Labelle's Lady Marmalade. In the 4 for $10 corner, I found Young Rascals, The Commodores, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Diana Ross. Talk about a great day! The shop owner was very helpful. His records are in great condition and he provided suggestions on how to keep my records in good shape. He even tried to help me find some early Hip-Hop, but we came up empty. Given my large haul, I was not disappointed. After my time in the shop, I could definitely understand why Technics turntables are so widely sought: it played beautifully with the speaker system it was connected to throughout the store. I fell in love with the record that played while I sought to add to my collection. When I asked the owner to contact me if another copy of the LP came to his shop, he offered the one playing for $4. Now satisfied, I checked and used my Groupon to pay for a good portion of my records. I will definitely return to Olympic Records in the very near future: I want more 80s Pop! read more

My ex boyfriend ranted and raved over this place, yet would never bring me in when we'd go on our weekend adventures. Having a half day I decided to take advantage of the sunshine and that it was on my way home. Popped into the minimally decorated store (which was really nice) and started digging. I liked the aesthetics of the place- it wasn't filled with knick knacks or junk. The main wall displayed some prime brand new picks, and the rest of the wares were easily navigable. I settled on a few random pieces, a new copy of Mary Wells from the Shangri Las album, a neat used comp of all covers of "Louie Louie", an off brand 70s Monkees single containing Pleasant Valley Sunday and I'm a Believer (I would have to say that PVS was the B side in this instance), and Elenore by the Turtles complete with a picture sleeve. I will definitely be back time and time again. The owner, was fantastic he didn't hover, nor indicate that he really wanted me to hurry up and give him a sale or get out. On a nice day, I like to get a coffee at Coffee Exchange, then go for a little stroll up to the other end of Wickenden Street and poke around Olympic. I always end up leaving with something, whether it's a new release, an old 45, something cool from the 3 dollar bin, extra 12" sleeves, etc... there is always something that I get fired up to buy. I love this store. Love it. Prior to actually having a record player, I just went here to play pinball and never felt weird about it. Now that I have a player, I'm pretty sure I'll be in here with some frequency. Kevin's very cool and one of the more engaging store owners I've met here.
