Took my teenage daughter on a quick trip to Warren and found IYE by accident. Stopped in an and 45 minutes later left with some great deals. They have everything organized alphabetically and by genre, so if you know what you are looking for it's great! The also had tshirts and some vintage items. It was a cute spot. This was the coolest and cleanest record store I've ever been in! The music playing was excellent and they had a mix of new and used vinyls. Most places in the area have limited new vinyls so it was nice to find some titles I haven't seen yet. I wasn't able to try the bar as I went around noon on a Saturday and it wasn't open, but it definitely looked like a place I want to come back to. Parking on the street wasn't very difficult but it seemed this location had two entrances as a first timer. The front door entrance was locked (I assume for the bar area) but I noticed there's a ramp along the side of the building and THAT is where the main entrance. Worth finding! read more

I've been going to In Your Ear on and off for years, and although I have to agree with some people that the staff can be rude and condescending, I had a new unpleasant experience recently. The guy who runs the Main St. store always seemed like a likeable, friendly guy and I've had a few pleasant conversations with him. Not long ago, I went in and we exchanged some pleasantries and I said "Nice catching up" and, as I was walking away he mumbled loud enough for me to hear, "Nice catching up?!? Grumble, grumble, etc." Well, there's "customer service:" for you; not much better than the old bunch. Went there again a couple of times recently and saw two small, hand-made white signs with black lettering, about 8" x 6": One read "F*ck John Doe" (can't recall the guy's name; McSomething I think), and the latest one read "Andre is a jerk". Both were taped to the window just to the right of the door. I was appalled! And this is how you greet customers?!? Are these town locals who you have nasty, personal messages for? I'm guessing it's the work of the guy that runs that store now. My suggestion for local customers is (1) watch what you say to the guy or (2), better yet, don't give In Your Ear your business unless you want to risk being treated like a pariah. Anybody not local? Find a record store that will treat you like you're a valued customer. I'll never be back to this cluttered, unorganized dump of a store with Rumpelstiltskin behind the counter. read more

Customer service is extremely lacking, their website is horrible and outdated, provides little to no information about what is available to purchase. I went in to browse and the guys behind the counter made it seem like you were inconveniencing them by just entering their store. I called them as well prior to this visit and I got a very rude hello, I had to ask if I was even calling the correct business and their tone and the way they answered my questions were extremely rude and I will just never give them my business or time again and I will recommend any other record store in this area. Idk what the issue is with the people that run this place but the way they treat their customers is in no way acceptable. read more

I'll admit that the first time I heard records were coming back into fad, I thought people were crazy. I mean I know that the distortion you get from listening to an mp3 file vs. an analog source like a record or cd, some would say is like putting a steak dinner with peas and mashed potatoes into a blender together and then drinking it vs. eating it on a plate. But at the same time vinyl is hard to store, impossible to keep clean of dust, much more expensive to buy and buy equipment to play, forces you to sit through filler songs and makes you flip or change the record every 20 minutes or 4-5 songs. From a convenience standpoint, it is like driving and maintaining a Model T Ford vs. a Toyota Corolla. However, there is just something very 'vintage' and cool about a record player spinning a black shiny record. When forced to hear the whole album with vinyl, I actually find some new great songs I hadn't heard when putting together a playlist of best hits from a band. So there are a couple choices ... Amazon, where you can be sure to save $5-$10 on the prices of brand new records and hope that the seller is legit or not storing the records in a hot room or improperly. EBay ... again, you save money but are generally buying a pig in a poke because you must trust the seller's grading and it could be coming from a thrift store smelling of mildew and warped. Or, your local record store where you can look at the record album or in the case of In Your Ear, they have a set up where you can actually play and test the record for snaps, pops and crackle so common on vintage vinyl. The only suggestion I'd have is that there is no grading system and few notes written on each record, so if you don't have time to test it out, it can be hard at first glance to tell if a $20 copy is NM or VG++ ... or if a $10 copy is VG or VG+. The same is true for the pressing ... is it a first press, second pressing, recent used pressing, etc. The store is cavernous and was intentionally (I think) left to look like a record store from the 1970's with that light green and yellow paint, fluorescent lighting and pegboard racks. If you are buying vintage vinyl, it sort of adds to the experience. Warren itself is a hipster-y waterfront village ... very vintage feeling and worn. Paint peels off most buildings, on a day with grey skies it is eerily empty and feels like of like a small town from a Rob Zombie movie. However, you'll find hipstery little restaurants with hand crafted cocktails, 'curated' oysters and farm to table offerings throughout ... and a great vinyl store. The counter guy was very helpful, not pushy and friendly. Often there is a propensity for vinyl store employees to act snooty and all knowing but I found just the opposite at In Your Ear. Clearly the employee was very into music, knowledgable about the equipment and willing to chat a bit about it. I saw several record players here, mostly vintage. There were some Technics, Audio Technica and other vintage names lost to the 1980s and 1970s cleaned up and (presumably) in playing order. Old, used equipment is sometimes better than buying new stuff and I assume the store is great because they will help you balance the tone arm and set up a system. Good luck getting that at a Best Buy. Overall, this is a great place for a vintage vinyl collector to come and browse for a while. I spent 3 times as much time and money in here as I intended but walked away with 2 very playable copies of some damn good albums in their original form. Anyone who has heard a 1968 Rolling Stones album will know the difference between a bass heavy modern 2017 re-issue and remaster, meaning the sound arrangements were changed around to accommodate modern equipment and tastes vs. the original. Also, a lot of newer vinyl comes from an electronic copy vs. the originals which were made from an analog tape which came right from the soundboard or mixer. Listen to the modern re-issue of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and you'll hear two electronic gliches/skips on Starman and one other track. Not there on the original I can assure you. read more

Great record store! Lots of deals on used music such as dollar CDs & 4 for $10 vinyl! Plus lots of new vinyl records, too. Rock, Punk, Metal, Pop, Rap, Country & Jazz is all there at In Your Ear! I bought a great used 80s model turntable there. When needed a new belt and stylus, they had them both in stock plus installed them for me. They also sell 45s, books and some DVDs! You can't just stop in there for a few minutes; it's the type of store to take your time in and look through all the great music they have to offer. Give yourself at least an hour. A visit there isn't simply shopping; it's an event! There isn't that many shops like this left. Support local businesses! read more

Quick disclaimer: I am friends with the son of the Owner, but we did become friends *after* my visits to IYE. What an absolute treasure-trove. If you are a music lover, this place is your *place*. With one of the largest and most varied vinyl collections I have seen in a modern day record store, In Your Ear is sure to please. I could easily spend my entire day here sifting through the records and struggling not to overdraft my bank account by buying out the whole lot, but I am a weirdo who enjoys the smell and vibes of used records. Part of me dreams that one day I will get proposed to here by an angsty classic-rock lover while perusing the selection. The ownership is fantastic and the staff knows their stuff. They remember regulars, so if you're digging for a specific album, let them know and they'll do their best to keep it on their radar should it come in later. They really love fellow music-lovers here, and really do whatever they can to help you build your collection or discover something new based on your existing taste. Reasonable prices compared to the other like-stores in the New England area, so IYE is definitely worth the drive for this Boston girl. This oasis of audio has a great selection across genres and with a large inventory - which means there's literally something for everyone. You can spend days here and not scratch (hehe look, a pun) the surface of what they have to offer in vinyl. You can tell that the staff are passionate about their jobs, taking a genuine interest in helping you cultivate your collection. They are knowledgable, friendly, and very open to suggesting records you may like. So, it is no wonder that the owner is a very passionate and knowledgable fellow who just plain old loves a good groove. - definitely the kind of guy who has a basement full of records. For the selection and price, you gotta thank the guys/gals over at In Your Ear. After all, treasure hunting is a time consuming art. Spent a little over an hour and a half going thru their vinyl. Nice collection of rock, pop, blues, r&b. The two guys there know their stuff and no question asked will get that "I am a record guy who knows their shit and you are asking me a stupid question that is beneath me" attitude. For a little under $40 we got 7 records (one was a two record set) and for the price the records were in great condition. Will definitely be going back. read more

In Your Ear is a veritable treasure trove of jewels in the forms of vinyl, CDs, used cassettes, posters and other randomness for the love of music. It's also kind of a mess in organization and stacked cardboard boxes of stuff hither and thither. But if you're up for a hunt, you won't be disappointed. Biggest record selection around that I know of - closest RI approximation in terms of vibe to what I imagine it might be like to walk into Rob's Championship Vinyl from High Fidelity. I figure the rising costs of a storefront on an increasingly commercialized Thayer St. pushed In Your Ear to Warren, but this location is much bigger, sunnier, friendlier than the former. read more

Great little record store with helpful staff. I once had a few bad experiences there long ago, but the last few times I've visited it's been a great experience. Highly recommend them if you're in the area. They're great for purchasing used stereo equipment. Do you like overpriced vinyl, sold by condescending clerks who think Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden are the greatest bands ever????? If so, then have I got the store for you!!!! Seriously though, disappointing is the best way to sum up this store. I have been trying to get over there for a while to check out the selection after reading some of the reviews, and buying some stuff from their booth at the RI Antiques Mall, and I finally got the chance the other day. The selection isn't bad, but almost anything worth buying can be found considerably cheaper elsewhere. The vinyl is clean and blemish free so price alone would probably mean three or even four stars, not one, right? The weak review is almost entirely due to the staff. My experience consisted of listening to the non stop trash talking and idle threats about who was "gonna pay" for maligning our local Warren music savant, repeated bashing of every artist that didn't quite make the grade for this aficionado of late 70's metal (a genre I actually love), a dissertation on how RI has no good music scene (which is true if you never leave Warren), and the apparently all too common air of elitism mentioned in other reviewer's posts. It actually got worse when I went to complete my purchase, and was told by the clerk that my selection of records included a band he felt was just more generic crap; an opinion I neither solicited nor wanted. Now, I tend to buy an eclectic mix of music so I can understand that all of the things I like may not be everyone else's cup of tea, but I certainly don't need to hear what bands/music I should like from a guy whose musical preferences seem to based on the premise that every band must have a Maiden gallop for a guitar riff to be considered worthy. So, to sum it up, if you feel like being talked down to by wanna be rockers with chain wallets, who thinks the only good music was written by Black Sabbath, (a sentiment he made sure to share with all within earshot) then son you have found Mecca. If however, you like to browse a shop owned by people who actually WANT to assist you in finding music, who care to listen to and offer a diverse selection of music, and who will give honest advice on that selection without being condescending, I would recommend going somewhere else; in fact, in my experience, anywhere else... read more

Ask him about the large country collection he has stashed, and if you are nice, he may let you have a look. Trust me, it's impressive, very impressive. An all around great store, with employees that still care about music. As an added bonus, they stock strings, drumsticks, other odds and ends, and.....music lessons are offered. Even helped me mail my purchase to my home since I am traveling and didn't want the records to bend in my suitcase. IYE is a small yet highly knowledgeable place to find obscure vinyl and CD's and easy place to order from. Helpful always, as well as staying out of your hair if you just want to browse. A little while ago on my favorite trash barrel John Lennon's birthday, I visited this place as it was only seven miles away-- and was big enough for me not to get uncomfortable, I got two records (John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and John&Yoko's Some Time in New York City. I could go on about how iffy I am about John's ~edgy~ SJ phase, but this is not the time or place) and they were in INCREDIBLE condition! Finding either of those albums anywhere else, whether it be on Amazon or somewhere in person is VERY HARD!!! Especially since Some Time In NYC is a double album (and also said to be what almost ruined John's career and didn't sell very well. Gosh, I'm doing it again.) I'm very eager to return!!!!!!! The only real criticism I have is the website that takes care of mostly the Boston and Cambridge locations-- and it looks a bit... Eh. But I digress! Definitely returning! read more

They have a decent selection of cd's and vinyl...but. The owner was especially rude to me. First, I said hi and he completely ignored me. He definitely heard me, just chose to be a too-cool hipster record shop dude and not acknowledge a friendly greeting. Then when I asked questions about where certain artists' cd's were located and he just looked at me like I'm an idiot and said everything was accurately labeled. Unlike some shops that are more like museums with the same stale inventory,Iye always has new lps everytime I visit this store.The owner and staff are very knowledgable and are always glad to help.
