Recently, I was scrolling through instagram and came across @newburycomicsprovidence post and story of in stock Pop Mart's Labubu blind boxes. Falling for the trend, I had to get my hands on my own Labubu! Labubu is a small monster with high, pointed ears and serrated teeth. Despite a mischievous look, Labubu is kind-hearted and always wants to help. Aren't they so cute? I hurried over to Newbury Comics and they had THE MONSTERS - Have a Seat Vinyl Plush Blind Box, THE MONSTERS - Exciting Macaron Vinyl Face Blind Box, The Monsters Coca-Cola Series Figures Blind Box, and The Monsters Lazy Yoga Series Blind Box behind the checkout counter. There is a limit of purchasing 3 of each type and no holds. A few hours later, I saw an update on the post that Have a Seat and Exciting Macaron Blind Box were sold out. I am so glad Newbury Comics carries these blind boxes and even have a whole Pop Mart section. I've also purchased hippers. Hippers are adorable decorative mini figures come with adhesive tape to stick onto your laptop, desk, phone, bookshelf, and more. I've stuck them on my monitor and my desk organizer. I love this store... I can find so many fun things to get as gifts...from fun t-shirts to stuffed animals, to toys, to LPs etc.. The store sells new and used CDs, LPs, singles, and DVDs, and other pop culture-related goods, including comics, manga, posters, T-shirts, trading cards, action figures, buttons, sports merchandise, jewelry, cosmetics, novelties and more. A fun place to wander around for a while and get interesting stuff for others.... This store is of the many that can be found in New England, mostly at shopping malls. read more

If you ask 'what gift would you like?' you'd better be able to come through on the request. Well. I got a Lava Lamp request and thought 'hm, Newbury Comics would probably have that'. I was correct. Interesting and eclectic inventory. Everything from Harry Potter, to action figures, plush characters, pins and stickers to name just a tiny fraction of the items you will find here. And of course LP's. This location, inside the Providence Place Mall, is quite large. If there is something a bit 'off the beaten path' that you are looking for give Newbury Comics a try. Awful employee. Walked in with my partner enjoying the store, all of a sudden one of the employees walks up with their hand out. A short haired woman with blue pink and yellow in her hair. Proceeds to harass my partner over a pack of cards they had that they put back. Makes my partner empty their pockets and bags, and then kicks my partner out of the store when she realized she fucked up and was wrong. I already emailed corporate. Gotta love Newbury Comics for having the balls to sell The Donald Trump talking pen. I bought mine cause it made me laugh so hard and now when I'm calling friends I can have The Donald leave the message. Outside of that Newbury Comics has a plethora of vinyl records, t-shirt and overall stuff to clutter your house. Yet I find myself drawn to looking at all of it while the mall. This store - at least in this location - is utterly dead to me. I fully understand the facts of economy vs. pop culture markets, but the only fact that I'm paying attention to is that what was once a store where I could browse and purchase two of my favorite hobbies (music and movies) has been slowly turning into a literal toy store. Up through only last month, I at least still had four shelves each of movies and music to browse through, and even with the slim pickings, I at least had the option to browse and maybe even get lucky. Sadly, however, with the store's in-mall location shifting to a new outlet on the same floor, it has finally succumbed to becoming another soulless Hot Topic lite market. Now, there is an entire WALL, taking up more than half of the store's length, dedicated to Funko Pop! figures. There are entire sections for fidget spinners and socks. The whole store is even smaller than the previous iteration; it's beyond even a joke at this point. And then, meanwhile, the movie section? Yeah, it has now been reduced to TWO - 2 - very small endcaps, located on one side of the TWO aisles of music. I literally have no reason to shop here anymore. Newbury Comics has been on a slow and exasperatingly painful decline, both as a chain and especially at this store's location, for quite some time now, but if this store's new layout is indicative of the business's future model, then consider this 20+ year customer officially finished. Newbury Comics: shame on you for this terrible new business model. And at least as far as your Providence Place Mall location is concerned, you shall have no more business from me. read more

Wow! I was surprised to see this location rated so high. While they have a nice assortment of unique gift items and collectibles (I buy most of my stocking stuffers here and birthday gifts for my 10 year old and his friends), that's pretty much all this place has going for them. They have a limited supply of comics on hand and a faulty reservation system for subscriptions. (Spoiler alert: I stopped going here and moved my subscriptions to Wild Time Comics in Attleboro - they are fantastic!) The staff is not friendly or even really helpful. In fact, each time I've had to ask one of them a question, I'm quickly reminded why I have an adverse reaction to shopping there - it's the staff. I'm sure they are nice people, probably just bummed out that they have to work at this place and receive no personal joy or satisfaction from working with "the public". They recently moved locations and are now in a much smaller place next to the food court, where a dress shop once was, you can tell because the space wasn't renovated. I haven't gone in since the move, but it looks like they've lost about half of their selling space and probably a good potion of their stock. I wonder if this is a temporary move while they remodel or if this is where they will remain permanently. Either way, it doesn't change the below average shopping experience you'll have here. read more

A lot of people tend think of Newbury as a CD store and even though they do have a lot of CD's they have a lot more. Lots of different things all arranged rather chaotically, you never know what the next aisle will bring. The have movies, cards, shirts, strange clothing and little toys. Just about everything but comics. Last time I was in I ended up buying three refrigerator magnets of the Three Stooges. Not exactly what I went in there for, but that what makes this store so cool. read more

This place is fabulous. They have a huge selection of DVD's and CD's (used and brand new) for low prices (10 dollars for most CD's, 12-15 for DVD's). I love coming here because I can spend hours just browsing their bargain section, which contains many popular and classic movies for cheap. I was able to find "Blue Velvet" for my friend at a cheaper price than on Amazon. This place is amazing! read more

I always love coming here for comics, obviously and fun unique finds. Some of their prices are more than other stores, like books. But it's a great place to buy some used DVDs! I've purchased many movies, especially some classic Disney BluRays for super affordable prices. I've been coming here for years, and always love to see what's new. Today they had a Tobins Spirit Guide book. Being a big Ghostbusters fan, I couldn't pass it up! I mean how fun is that?! The staff are always very nice and are available to find what you need. Many times I would be looking for something and they were able to find it for me either in another store of theirs or in store. They have a good selection of comics and collectibles for every nerd. Newbury Comics is my #1 place to buy CD's, DVD's, and so much more! Located in the Providence Place Mall, this particular Newbury Comics location is extremely convenient and easy to find. I come here for all my musical, entertainment, and odd gift needs! Shelves upon shelves of products for your perusing. Of main note is the extensive collection of musical talent displayed for purchase. I always walk out of the store with something new or coveted to listen to. What I love about this store is the new & used options. Their used cd's and dvd's are very cheap compared to the original selling price. Lately they have been having "flash sales" and for one day only they'll offer various deals in-store. For instance, yesterday. . . if you bought 2 used cd's you get a 3rd for free! Not bad! Walked outta here with a used copy of Radiohead's In Rainbows, Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and The Best of Van Morrison. All for $20! Way better than what it would have cost me full price :) Other items available for purchase include posters, clothing, vinyl LPs, and a huge collection of collectible toys like action figures, board games, movie memorabilia, etc. Looking for a unique gift? I try not to post negative reviews on here but this was the second time I visited this location of Newbury Comics and got the same kind of snotty attitude when I asked a question. I frequent the Attleboro, Bellingham & Norwood Stores often and have super positive experiences but the Providence Place Store is not the same. First time I questioned the price of a used LP because it said "includes inserts" and when I opened it there were no inserts inside. I was given an answer with what I felt was an bad attitude that, that I didn't understand and when I questioned again I felt like I was a bother and was being annoying for questioning a price at all. Today I bought a comic book which I normally purchase in Massachusetts. I simply said that I thought comic books were untaxed because they are dated material. Again instead of simply answering the question I got what I feel was an attitude for asking a question over .34 cents. It was simply a curiosity question and not about the money. Needless to say I'm glad that I don't visit the Providence Place Mall very often and I'll do my best not to disturb the staff with my questions again. If you want comics in Providence goto Time Capsule, if you want Records go to Armageddon Shop. If you want to feel belittled by an annoyed clerk goto the Providence Place Newbury. read more

If you are seriously looking for comics, don't go here. It's called Newbury Comics but walking around in it comes off more like a Hot Topic, which is a few stores down. It's not a terrible store as it has geek knick knacks, some toys, vinyl records and movies, it just doesn't have a good selection of comics and quite honestly that's my only beef with this store. On a positive note, they did have some independent comic publishers like IDW, so that's good. If you're going to name yourself a store with the word Comic in the name, you should have a good selection of them and not a single rack with comics that just came out. read more

If you are looking for comics, like it says in the name, then go somewhere else. Their selection isn't bad, but is very disorganized and it seems like comics are at the bottom of their priority list. If you are looking for worthless gifts and nicknacks, then this is the place for you! They have every worthless stocking stuffer, from Soup Nazi keychains to Doctor Who Christmas ornaments to socks with pot leaves on them. Newbury comics is a great place for useless stuff and not a great place to get comics. read more

Newbury Comics is an anomaly. An independent record store chain, that somehow, manages to feel both indie and corporate. The relaxed atmosphere and vibe of a indie store and the aesthetic of a corporate one. I've grown up going to these stores, and in a way i'll always love them, but I'd really rather not go to the mall. Also I'm in my 30's, 90% of what they sell I don't want or don't need. If I were 15 and needed a George Castanza "the jerk store called, they're running out of you" T shirt, a 36ft hight poster of Bob Marley smoking marley or a book titled 420 Ways to Roll a Joint, this would be the place I'd go to get it. This is a middle of the road Newbury Comics. Since it has moved from a larger store on the other side of the third floor to this one with a smaller footprint, I've been going to Norwood to get my music geek on. Let's digress, the vinyl selection is small. Like makes Warwick's look amazing at times small. This store definitely caters to the top 40 mallrat and mallgoth demographic. Novelties are abundant here, but they are not some of the more obscure tchokies. Usually the staff at this location makes me feel less cool and insignificant when I buy something...(such as the Garbage-Brody Dalle split on Record Store Day) but on my last visit I was actually lauded for my good taste in the new Brody Dalle album (thanks bearded employee in the jean shorts!!! yes, i know that could describe about 10 of their employees) read more

This is not that bad of a Newbury Comics. The vinyl selection has gotten better in recent months which is always a plus. Their novelty (tee shirts, plushies, trinkets, etc) selection is the best of all Newburies in my opinion. The staff here don't get in your way, and are willing to order/check warehouse if you are looking for something in particular. The only con to this store is that it's in the mall, which means it's full of annoying mall rats and PPM is a bitch to park in. Warwick is still my favorite location because it's quiet, but if I'm in PPM I always stop at this location to see what's new. read more

I am an absolute lover of a big Newbury Comics. This particular one is on the 3rd floor of the mall stand with your back to food court and walk left you will see their sign on right side of aisle. This store is fairly large with everything you want from a Newbury. I've been to many and this one is top 3 I would say. They have comics newly printed ones I haven't seen and super older printed ones, they have hats. No like hats... Sufer, sports, snap backs of all styles, skate bored brands, beanies of all kinds/colors etc. Need a t-shirt or sweatshirt with a superhero or video game check. Need a dvd or cd used or new check! Walls and aisles of them! But my fav in any Newbury is the record selection. Yes I have a record player they don't go out of style lol. They have great 90's selection which I like. Only thing is they are always super busy with people bumping into you and sometimes pricey but other then that great store! (look around there are super deals but you have too look :)) read more

I love it, hilarious fun books, posters, music, even records!? It hurts to leave this store every time. Litterally the stabbies, I feel stabbed. Nirvana, HIM cd's!? My friend and I go crazy for this place whenever we're ready to drop $40 on near 6 Used DVDS. Their Used DVD selection is well-priced and well-stocked. Staff is constantly busy hurrying all over the store but they will stop what their doing to help you with you questions/requests. They have a great selections of New DVDS, CDs, posters and random collectibles all over the store. It's very difficult to leave here without buying something for an incredibly reasonable price! read more

Newbury Comics is an awesome store, and this is a great location. It's right in the Providence Place mall, and it sells many new and used CDs and DVDs. They even have a pretty good selection of Blue-Ray HD DVDs. Prices are very good too, especially on the used stuff! They also sell odds and ends like toys, some books, pins, gag gifts, etc. The salespeople here are very friendly and helpful too. I like it! read more

Newbury is an attractive store with lots of merchandise from popular comics and anime. Problem is there's only one small shelf of comics.

This is fun store to shop at the mall. I'd say it is the only cd store that I see that is always busy. They have tons of unique collectible items and will certainly keep you entertained to say the least. read more

This is now one of my favorite stores. There is a good selection of t-shirts, DVDs, video games, bumper stickers and posters. The service is a little slow and the lines can get pretty long, but nothing too severe. Also, some people that go in there are liberal punk-asses that I normally wouldn't like. the prices on items are pretty reasonable. read more

Whenever Im visiting Rhode Island I always end up coming here. This place has tons of CDs, DVDs, band posters, band tee's, and lots of other novelty stuff. They always have good sales whenever Im there on DVDs and CDs. If you are in need of a gag gift, this is the place to go.
