This is the lamp I came looking for...
    Jen W.

If you ask 'what gift would you like?' you'd better be able to come through on the request. Well. I got a Lava Lamp request and thought 'hm, Newbury Comics would probably have that'. I was correct. Interesting and eclectic inventory. Everything from Harry Potter, to action figures, plush characters, pins and stickers to name just a tiny fraction of the items you will find here. And of course LP's. This location, inside the Providence Place Mall, is quite large. If there is something a bit 'off the beaten path' that you are looking for give Newbury Comics a try. They might have what you are looking for.

Gotta love Newbury Comics for having the balls to sell The Donald Trump talking pen. I bought mine cause it made me laugh so hard and now when I'm calling friends I can have The Donald leave the message. Outside of that Newbury Comics has a plethora of vinyl records, t-shirt and overall stuff to clutter your house. Yet I find myself drawn to looking at all of it while the mall. Buying gifts here is an easy task cause there's something for any occasion. Trust me people of Rhode Island and come on by to browse.

These two endcaps are ALL the movies left IN THE ENTIRE STORE. Majorly disappointing.

This store - at least in this location - is utterly dead to me. I fully understand the facts of economy vs. pop culture markets, but the only fact that I'm paying attention to is that what was once a store where I could browse and purchase two of my favorite hobbies (music and movies) has been slowly turning into a literal toy store. Up through only last month, I at least still had four shelves each of movies and music to browse through, and even with the slim pickings, I at least had the option to browse and maybe even get lucky. Sadly, however, with the store's in-mall location shifting to a new outlet on the same floor, it has finally succumbed to becoming another soulless Hot Topic lite market. Now, there is an entire WALL, taking up more than half of the store's length, dedicated to Funko Pop! figures. There are entire sections for fidget spinners and socks. The whole store is even smaller than the previous iteration; it's beyond even a joke at this point. And then, meanwhile, the movie section? Yeah, it has now been reduced to TWO - 2 - very small endcaps, located on one side of the TWO aisles of music. I literally have no reason to shop here anymore. Newbury Comics has been on a slow and exasperatingly painful decline, both as a chain and especially at this store's location, for quite some time now, but if this store's new layout is indicative of the business's future model, then consider this 20+ year customer officially finished. Newbury Comics: shame on you for this terrible new business model. And at least as far as your Providence Place Mall location is concerned, you shall have no more business from me.

Big selection of Funko pops and other cool stuff. Manager (Dee) was very helpful. Lots of hard to find novelty items.

Newbury is an attractive store with lots of merchandise from popular comics and anime. Problem is there's only one small shelf of comics.

I had never been to one of these stores before and I was impressed. The choices of electronics and games to buy is really good...You could be a PS4 or Nintendo gamer and find Tons of options ! However, we were unsure of the total amount. As we waited in line I could hear how polite the male staff was(bald Caucasian with a clear mask on. I believe he's the manager). He looked up some items for this couple ahead of us with a smile. Called a few stores for them so I had hopes of decent service. When he called on us however the courtesies ended. I asked him politely asked if he would mind checking the balance on the cards and combine them onto one card. He quickly declined both requests by first chuckling and then pointing to the card reader tucked away behind some upsale items on the counter. He also quickly crushed my kids dreams by saying he didn't have anymore of the 1 game he had picked out while I waited in line. No alternatives by maybe doing what he did for the couple previously...looking the game up and letting us know where we might find it. He just sat there with an attitude while I swiped each card. The rudeness that stood out the most was when he questioned why my son had so many gift cards. Those were the 3 things he said to us. Absolutely nothing more. No I can't check your gift cards. No I can't combine your gift cards We don't have any more of that game. I finally asked before leaving if they had ps4's available. He quickly replied No, next please! We actually came here for better service from the Johnston store but providence place location is just as bad.

First, I love that they have free non perishable goods outside for people to help themselves as they need it. The shop inside is very cute, they have a diverse selection of books inside a cozy space. I liked how it was organized, enjoyed featuring of local artists work, including cards and bookmarks. Prices were what you can expect from a smaller book store, nothing incredibly expensive and overall a good deal. They also had a pile of books by the door that were completely free, which I thought was a great idea. Definitely a great place to stop by if you're looking for a new read!

They've carefully curating a wide variety of stories, accumulated so many sweet little goodies & knick knacks, & built a wonderful, irreplaceable community in Providence. They put a LOT of effort into highlighting BIPOC & queer authors in their collection. The range of genres & narratives - especially considering the tiny size of the store - is a masterclass in diverse inventory. The very best thing about Heartleaf, though, is the manager. She alone is worth a visit to the store. If she's napping, it's a cardinal sin to disturb her. You'll just have to come back another time to give her a scratch behind the ears. (Penny is the manager. Penny is also a cat. I promise I'm not randomly scratching humans behind the ears.) Thank you Caroline & Mads for everything you do. Long live Heartleaf!

Gruff insecure manager lost my business after taking his frustrations out on me over…read moremisunderstandings. First, there was some strange miscommunication as he fails to explain the differences between the final copy in stock versus how they usually sell them. I ask for clarification, and he gives a redundant non-answer after already giving me non-laymen terms in the first place. I take a guess at what he meant. "So, like, the (price tag) sticker?" he gives weird condescending quip thinking I meant the one he's applying to seal the case. I can empathize with a misunderstanding, but that was a just plain rude response. We don't have that rapport. We aren't friends. Then I clarify. He gives an exhausted "Well Goo Gone exists." he sounds like he didn't get any sleep and that I'm making his day harder. Like, dude.. I get that GameStop is a horrible employer and I don't want to be there anymore than you do. Don't take it out on me. We then have what I thought was a friendly respectful interaction about whether Paypal barcode is a payment option and I'm thinking this is going fine so I'm comfortable enough to shoot the breeze about how it gets me 3% back on my medications. He seemed chill enough. In retrospect, I'm realizing my N95 mask and resting face must make me look... stern?? to him? Because he's giving this unnecessary "sorry" about it where I'm trying to placate *him* that it's okay and that I ask it everywhere. Here's where it became a problem. After he asks if I want to add protection to my order, My response somehow warranted he derail the transaction to give this bizarre frustrated lecture about how he has a store to run or something. And what prompted this power trip? I said.... "Nope" Cricket chirps. That's it. "Nope." How dare I??? Did I say it too quickly? Too flatly? Did my mask obscure the friendly expressiveness? Who cares at this point, YOU'RE in control and THIS is how you handle it? Does a sudden passing breeze make you want to punch a baby, too? the most baffling part is that video game stores are going to have neurodiverse people saying quick short awkward answers especially if they know they're too long winded otherwise (like here!). That's par for the course. It's gaming, not Abercrombie. Expect awkwardness, assume good intent. I had to multiple times in our short awkward time together. Anyways, Nostradamus here is the master of self-fulfilling prophecy as I cancelled my order and had a lovely time telling him off before taking my business to a competitor at the next town over. The most disappointing thing about it is that this is just the most recent *awful* experience. I shopped at GameStops considerably less in the past seven years and each time I get a stunning reminder that your company culture just keeps spewing out miserably off-putting insecure staff or anxiously under-trained but infinitely more well-meaning canaries in your coal mine that quit at first sign of abuse (like myself). Truly, "Power to the player", means the ability to walk out and take your business elsewhere.
