Gotta love Newbury Comics for having the balls to sell The Donald Trump talking pen. I bought mine cause it made me laugh so hard and now when I'm calling friends I can have The Donald leave the message. Outside of that Newbury Comics has a plethora of vinyl records, t-shirt and overall stuff to clutter your house. Yet I find myself drawn to looking at all of it while the mall. Buying gifts here is an easy task cause there's something for any occasion. Trust me people of Rhode Island and come on by to browse.

These two endcaps are ALL the movies left IN THE ENTIRE STORE. Majorly disappointing.

This store - at least in this location - is utterly dead to me. I fully understand the facts of economy vs. pop culture markets, but the only fact that I'm paying attention to is that what was once a store where I could browse and purchase two of my favorite hobbies (music and movies) has been slowly turning into a literal toy store. Up through only last month, I at least still had four shelves each of movies and music to browse through, and even with the slim pickings, I at least had the option to browse and maybe even get lucky. Sadly, however, with the store's in-mall location shifting to a new outlet on the same floor, it has finally succumbed to becoming another soulless Hot Topic lite market. Now, there is an entire WALL, taking up more than half of the store's length, dedicated to Funko Pop! figures. There are entire sections for fidget spinners and socks. The whole store is even smaller than the previous iteration; it's beyond even a joke at this point. And then, meanwhile, the movie section? Yeah, it has now been reduced to TWO - 2 - very small endcaps, located on one side of the TWO aisles of music. I literally have no reason to shop here anymore. Newbury Comics has been on a slow and exasperatingly painful decline, both as a chain and especially at this store's location, for quite some time now, but if this store's new layout is indicative of the business's future model, then consider this 20+ year customer officially finished. Newbury Comics: shame on you for this terrible new business model. And at least as far as your Providence Place Mall location is concerned, you shall have no more business from me.

Big selection of Funko pops and other cool stuff. Manager (Dee) was very helpful. Lots of hard to find novelty items.

Newbury is an attractive store with lots of merchandise from popular comics and anime. Problem is there's only one small shelf of comics.

This is another great family run business and the owner, Regan, really does a nice job of…read moreremembering your face or name and acknowledging you when you walk in to check things out. It's a friendly atmosphere where you will find all types of comic book customers and is welcoming to both novices and enthusiasts. This shop is kid friendly and I don't have give my kids the "angry mom look" when they navigate themselves through the store because they are encouraged to check things out and explore (side note: anything really special or valuable is behind a glass case) without concern that they *might accidentally touch* something irreplaceable. They also have a nice selection of games, figurines, and retro items you will remember from your childhood. They are really good with tracking down back issues of comics you may have missed which is a plus for some collectors. In addition to setting aside your monthly subscriptions, the owner also has a knack for remembering the last thing you may have talked about and puts aside additional items he think you may be interested in, which is appreciated. It's important to note that they have recently relocated and have moved to a new location on Academy Ave

If I Could Give Zero, I Would…read more I'm a lifelong gamer. Tabletop, miniatures, RPGs, the whole culture -- it's been part of my life longer than some stores have existed. While on vacation, I went out of my way to visit this local shop because I genuinely WANT to support small businesses and the broader nerd community. I regret ever walking through the door. The moment I entered, the owner couldn't have looked less interested. Not a hello, not a nod, nothing. Just a silent, bored stare like my presence was an inconvenience. Only after I made it clear that I intended to buy a few things did he muster even the weakest, most reluctant attempt at customer service -- and even then, it felt like he was doing me a favor by acknowledging me. The selection was mediocre at best, but I still planned on buying several items to support the store. I picked up some paints and asked about a statement on their Instagram: "No Chuds No Bastards." I asked -- politely -- what that meant. His answer? "It means no right-wing f***faces." Classy. A bit taken aback, I clarified: what about someone who isn't racist, isn't hateful, but is simply more libertarian, pro-military, pro-police, pro-Second Amendment? Would they be welcome? His answer, smug and proud: "No. I hate the police." Why? Because, according to him, police "don't protect lives, only property." This man had no idea who he was talking to -- a law enforcement officer who risked my life at the Pulse nightclub terrorist attack to save members of the LGBTQ+ community. I have literally put my body between innocent people and gunfire. I have earned a Medal of Valor for saving dozens of lives. But in his world, none of that matters. Nuance? None. Respect? None. Just blind bigotry wrapped in fake moral superiority. He ranted against the military too. Apparently anyone who serves, protects, or runs toward danger instead of away from it is unwelcome in his store. Rather than blow up -- which he absolutely deserved -- I simply returned the items, told him I wished things were different, and left. Bottom line: If you are police, military, law enforcement, first responder, or simply someone who believes in basic respect for people who serve their community, stay FAR away from this store. They don't want you there -- and trust me, the feeling will be mutual once you experience the owner's arrogance, hostility, and pathetic customer service. Support literally ANY other local game shop. This one has proudly chosen ideology over community, contempt over kindness, and bigotry over business. It's not worth your time, your money, or your presence.

He happened to see a Pokémon in the window and asked if we could go in. I didn't even think it was a shop. He's so glad we came in though because he found some stuff he had seen online that he hadn't been able to find in shops at home. He was super excited and his friends are a bit jealous of his finds. The store itself is well organized and the playing areas are nice. It's not big but they have good stuff for a good price. My husband says a lot of places mark their stuff up super high and he didn't find that to be the case here, so he was happy. The person working the counter was super friendly and of course he and my husband started a long nerdy conversation. He asked him to come back on a certain night but we were leaving Providence this same day so we had to say no. I know my husband wanted to come back. Maybe one day.
