I know this isn't like the normal art store review but I wanted to mention how amazing they were…read more The knowledge from the staff in this store blows me away. An emergency left me in the ER with doctors and nurses asking me whether a small piece of dried yellowish paint was acrylic or oil, artist or other-- I had no idea. The only thing I could think to do was hurry to an art store and ask if they knew. My first stop was Michael's and the glazed over distant look in the employees eyes told me that I was wasting my time there. My brother-in-law shops at Riverside Art so I thought "what the Hell..." After just a few minutes of crumbling, smelling, and diluting they were able, with 100% confidence, to tell me exactly what kind of paint it was. Because of the strange color they were even able to give me a specific brand. Not too bad when all I brought them was a piece of dried paint and a whole lot of anxiety. They took a genuine interest in my problem and did the best they could to help me-- for that I am very appreciative and have been recommending them to everyone who asks me about art or framing.

Very disappointed recently - paid for a custom mounting of a canvas print - I gave careful instructions on my request - when i went to pick it up, I found that the image on the print was bent around the edges of the underlying frame. The painted image just ends in space - When I mentioned this, the young lady was dismissive - " these things get stretched when they get mounted" - Understood. So they actually mounted it on a framework that was too small. Too bad for me. I don't think it is reparable. I dont mind if mistakes are made. Just be respectful.

The store is heavily curated by the owner Nicole, who is also an artist herself, & it shows. It was an adventure, moving from display to display, always finding something new to look at & admire. It also smelled SPECTACULAR in the store thanks to a selection of gender-neutral scented items - soaps, perfumes, candles, body oils, etc. I was gift shopping for other people, but can't wait to go back to buy a treat for myself. I had my eyes on a "mezcal blanco" perfume roller. Nicole is a Providence local who creates upcycled tie ascots (hard to explain but beautiful to behold.) They are, in themselves, a masterclass in textile design. Shopping around this store was a total mood booster for me today. I can't wait to see what the future brings for Nicole & Asterfields.

Here, we celebrate the beauty of the handmade, the unusual, and the heartfelt—offering a curated mix of thoughtfully crafted apparel, soulful objects, and imaginative treasures for the home. Our space is a living collage—part shop, part sanctuary—where textures, color, and form come together in conversation. Each piece is chosen or created with intention, rooted in a belief that artistry belongs in everyday life. New to Asterfields is Nicole Deponte’s private studio gallery, open by appointment. This lush, light-filled space—tucked next to the shop—serves as the heart of her paintings, surrealist collage and mixed media practice. Nicole’s evolving body of work is displayed in our expansive front windows, bringing an ever-changing tableau of artwork and imagination to the street, and inviting passersby to experience creativity in its most organic form. At Asterfields, our mission is to cultivate a space where art meets intimacy, and where the handmade becomes a way of life.
