We enjoyed looking at the photographic art and really appreciated the water bottles and small snacks! Staff were friendly, informative, and helpful. I'm not the most knowledgeable about photography (I only dabble a bit in birds), but rating this 5-stars because I think it would be a great gallery for artsy photographers to peruse.

The…read moreinterior space lends itself well to shows, with warm lighting, an excellent flow to their layout and rich woods furnishing the interior space. I walked in shortly before closing to view their exhibit, "Land, Sea, and Sky" and I was quite pleased that I had chosen to do so. The curators are engaging, knowledgeable and easy to speak to. I found them quite amicable and easy to work with both before and after I decided to purchase a piece. I had a lot of questions about 1 piece in particular and ultimately I ended up contacting the artist to learn more about the provenance of the piece I was interested in. I ended up acquiring 1 piece from the gallery and I liked it so much that I have since purchased an additional 2 pieces from that series. I now own the full collection of Nina Weiss's "Waterways" series that were painted as part of Philadelphia's "Art in the Open" invitation only, judged event. Nina's pieces have been displayed all over the world and are held in many high value collections. You need to see one in person to view the depth, texture, and technique - I think they are fantastic! Nina got her undergrad from Tyler School of Art and Design, and a higher degree from RISD, hence the Philadelphia / Rhode Island connection. All 3 paintings from that series are now displayed in a prominent place in my home, where they bring me nostalgic joy as I reminisce on familiar scenes from my time spent traipsing about Philadelphia each and every day! Thanks to Nina and ArtProv for the great work you do. Art is what separates humans from Animals.

They make use of all of their space, coordinating music, burlesque, theater, art shows, etc, to be highlighted in the spot that makes the most sense for the medium. Does that make sense? No corner goes unused, you know? Once is a fluke, twice is a coincidence, & thrice is a pattern, right? Well then, unfortunately, the pattern here is that the bar staff is astronomically rude ): Like, noticeably mean. I wouldn't consider coming here for food or bev if there wasn't a very specific reason/show going on that I wanted to attend. That aside, I still have wonderful things to say about AS220 as an entity. Just a heads up for showgoers.

Deep in the bowels of this commercial complex, a group of friends carve out a secret 750 sq. ft. home for themselves, away from the prying eyes of mall security and the daylight reminder of things they would rather not think about. But what comes of letting our hurt take up too much room inside of us? Does every empty space always need to be filled? Or sometimes, is it all right to let what is hollow stay hollow? Loosely inspired by a true story, One Providence Place is an original 90-minute musical dramedy about art, grief, family, and the most carpeted mall in America. The space- Black Box: The Black Box is a nice little space nestled all the way to the right of AS220. Enough to fit about 30-40 audience members. Every seat is a good seat and it has it's own bathrooms. The play: It was more drama than comedy. I was not expecting that. After re-reading the description, they advertised it as dealing with grief and it was more a play about exactly that. I wanted it to be more comical and closer to the actual story. It wasn't my cup of tea but Kudos where judos is deserved. Someone had a vision and they went after it! Everyone knew their lines, their was some excitement, there were songs, they used their space well. Overall a dedicated group of artists did their craft and kudos to them. I always appreciate bathroom art.

We go every year around the holidays to see the Little Picture Show. All the artwork in the show is…read moresmall format original works by local artists and the pieces are priced under $350. There's a good variety of different styles and mediums (jewelry, photos, paintings). A great spot to get a unique holiday gift and also support a local artist! The club itself is located in a very cool historic building. The period details are beautiful. You can get a drink in the lounge/bar area and hang out by the fireplace. They also offer art classes to the community which I haven't taken yet, so I can't comment on that. Definitely a unique spot to check out and a true gem of Providence history!

I was so glad this was a stop on the tour and I spent time looking at pieces by young artists affiliated with Riverzedge Arts of Woonsocket. The young artists are so talented! There was a reception with cheese and we had the opportunity to meet some of the artists and talk about their work. Michael Rose, the gallery manager, welcomed us and informed us about Providence Art Club's mission to preserve the four historic buildings next to each other on Thomas Street. I can't wait to come back and check out the other galleries. The galleries of the Providence Art Club are always free and open to the public.

This small book shop is located inside The Arcade. It's focus is on 'the weird', aka books related…read moreto sci-fi, horror stories, tarot, witchcraft, and more. They have a few t-shirts for sale too. Books include local authors, famous authors, fiction, the history of witch trials such as in Salem, MA and several other non-fiction topics. I picked up a book I have been hoping to find for years now; the original stories by the Brothers Grimm. None of this tinkerbell fairytale stuff. This is raw, gorey, brutal stuff. The woman who assisted me was such fun to chat with and made some recommendations based on my interests. Definitely more books here I plan to return for. They even have a small area out the door (in the center of the building) to sit and read if you have time, or can't wait to begin your new book. Seriously, I have passed this shop half a dozen times and didn't realize what I was missing until I read their write up in Rhode Island Monthly magazine. Very glad I did!

At only two rooms, the space is pretty intimate with a cool industrial vibe. I like that you can just pop in and look around; so many of the galleries in Providence are by appointment only, which always strikes me as pretentious. The owner definitely made me feel welcome. The fact that there was a dog around didn't hurt either... Beware that the hours on Google are NOT correct! If you're planning a visit, it might be best to just call ahead and check the most updated schedule. I'm not sure if I would visit Valley specifically to come here, since it's pretty small, but if you're in the area I would definitely recommend stopping in and getting a taste of this artistic community.

The gallery is an intimate and beautifully appointed live/work loft in the Plant run by Robert and his partner who are recent transplants from NYC. Owner and photographer, Berge Ara Zobian is always there to meet and greet guests as well as to respond to questions and explain a multitude of historical facts regarding the building as well as information regarding the artists being featured. The Dreamy Venice section of Murano glass items is just beautiful and contains many lovely pieces of jewelry for those who have a fine eye for delicate and different. The work of the featured artists from July 20th to August 6th offers a wide range of art work and although the Gallery is not large, there is so much to enjoy that one really needs to allow enough time to digest the beauty of the mixed media, the paintings, photos, drawings, and sculptures. It is a lovely, enriching experience.

Beautiful glass pieces adorning the glass windows in beautiful shades, catching the light sometimes... just calling me in for a visit! I just love glass... We were getting dinner at Fellini's and drive by again. I had some time to kill so we went inside. I was not disappointed. A store filled, almost every crevice, with glass pieces. Mushrooms, mermaids, flowers, little animals, tiki glasses, etc... So much to look at. Sitting on shelves, hanging from the ceiling... The employee became very personable when I engaged her about my love of glass. She told the two 11 year olds I was with about a box in the back of the store they could each pick out a piece of free sea glass. They loved that! she gave me the owners business card alerting me that you can go to his studio and watch him make glass pretty much during daytime hours and not far from the gallery. Pretty cool! The prices- range from super affordable to pricey but it's glass and general handmade craftsmanship. Expected. I did buy a beautiful blue flower to replace one that had broken from an unstable shelf incident a few years ago for $20. I bought a small ceramic bowl that was from a local artist. Inside the bowl had an image of the RI State house inside (a gift.) Also each pre-teen got to pick a little glass figure that were $4 a piece. They loved this!

Yes, they do sell pipes and yes you can…read moresmoke whatever you want out of them, but like most head shops, you have to maintain a legal edicate and not use words like POT, WEED etc. or they may tell you they don't sell anything illegal and tell you to leave. That aside this is the most well put together, clean and professional glass shop in New England. Trust me. The only reason that I didn't give this place 5 starts is due to price. Granted most of the stuff is made by actual artists that put their time and money into it, but it comes at a price.

There are plenty of headshops with overseas glass that looks radical, but all copied without the techniques and attention to detail. It makes one proud to have a piece made by the person who originated the design. Be a comparison shopper, examine the quality (since American glass doesn't always mean there will be no problems here or there), but don't expect to get a deal. I see from other reviews Steve has a reputation for lecturing- But enjoy it! Nobody else will be this passionate about their products. If you want the glass art that becomes a member of your family for years, go here :)
